My sister & her family came out for US Thanksgiving and I was charged with
finding us a hotel in Vancouver. Our usual dog friendly Granville Island hotel
was booked- so I thought I try this one. I am very glad that I did. The staff
was great! The room was a little worn but was VERY big & comfortable. We loved
the bright & cheery decorating through out the hotel! The location was fun. I
would recommend it to all -except for those wanting a very quiet stay. It was
close to everything.

One night in October 2007, as recommended by our travel agent. Friends had
stayed and said it was good, but we had an average stay. Room decorated in a
variety of awful yellows and greens, poor soundproofing from the life on Robson
St, and sexual lubricant in the minibar? Even the free pen didn't work. Won't be
rushing back. Only good thing was relatively cheap deal we got.

My family loves to go to Vancouver at US Thanksgiving because in the US,
everything is closed and the only thing on TV is football. In Vancouver,
everything is open and there are some great rates on hotels (even if the US
dollar "discount" has disappeared).
When I found out my sister would be coming out to stay, I called them a few
weeks before the trip to see what kind of room we were getting. They explained
how we could work out the housing and gave us a free upgrade on arrival. We
booked the room on Priceline--it's unusual to see hotels treat Priceline guests
at the same level as regular guests.
Parking is $25/day, which used to be okay when the US dollar was worth more; it
seems a lot when it really is $25 US. :^)
The hotel shows a little wear--the wallpaper peeled in a corner of the bathroom,
that kind of thing--but it was clean and roomy, the room came with a fridge and
microwave oven, and the staff was incredibly helpful. Although we didn't use it
on this trip, the indoor pool area looked nice, and the jacuzzi area was
tempting. (I miss the ping pong table they used to have, though.)
Don't come if you're expecting the big schmanzy chain experience. But for a
small, boutique chain, Pacific Palisades is a great value.

My husband and I had spent 5 nights at PP and it was a great experience. The
staff is superb, they truely knows the meaning of customer service. We had never
been to Vancouver and they recommended some amazing "non-touristy" places and
amazing restaurants which made our trip so much more interesting and fun. We
both travel and have had some really good and really bad hotel experiences and
this was by far one of the best hotel experiences we've shared. The hotel room
was clean and large with great views of the towers (there was a bit of
construction noise but not bad enough to complain). We would highly recommend
staying here, especially for anyone who wants a low-key, relaxing environment
within walking access to everything Vancouver has to offer.

The good news is that this hotel is in a great location for downtown
entertainment and shopping. The staff are really kind, professional and
welcoming. They take pets, though we requested a room that isn't pet friendly.
They have a modern lobby that tries to keep up with the W Hotel but fails. They
offer a wine hour in the art gallery which is a nice touch. It's similar to
other Kimpton properties in Seattle or Portland but we felt it was more like a 2
or 3 star hotel. It's in an older, renovated building with boldly striped walls
and colorful carpets with worn, mismatched Ikea-like furniture and an equally
old and uninspiring bathroom. The tub was white and the toilet was flesh colored.
The tile needed to be cleaned/bleached. Our room had a baseboard heater and
gigantic windows that opened all the way which for us, was a danger to our kids.
It has a pool/jacuzzi which is a bonus but it seemed to double as the spa and
something else. It is also looking worn. We booked this on Hotwire as we've
often had great luck with them. This place was affordable and a good value given
its location.
