When it comes to price, location and service, I find the Westin Bayshore to be
unbeatable.
Other hotels in Vancouver may be more opulent. They may be more trendy or funky.
They might be right on a corner of Burrard and Robson. But my opinion is the
Bayshore has the best combination of everything I am looking for.
First is the location. Right by the harbor and Stanley Park, it is driving
distance to most shopping areas in downtown...but that to me is a positive. I'd
rather stay in a quiet hotel that is not on the hustle and bustle of a major
street. Step outside the hotel and you have the clean air on tap. Watch
seaplanes land and take off. Sit back and admire the towering forest tops with
the blue and white mountains in the background.
Second is the service. I've always been very delighted with the service at the
Bayshore. Doesn't hurt if you're a Starwood Preferred Guest.
Third are the rooms. Older, but very well maintained.
Cons? It's a drive to most Vancouver shopping districts.
The only parking options are valet $26 or self-park $23. You can see what
they're doing here.
Wireless internet access, now standard, is $14.99. In this day and age, why
can't hotel chains just suck it up and offer this for free instead of nickel and
diming customers?
All in all, the Bayshore is the first place I check when I come to Vancouver.
Rates are generally quite reasonable if there isn't a major convention on site.
Most will be pleased with the choice.

Stayed overnight at this place for a Christmas party. As anohter review said,
the lobby etc is nice but the rooms are old. The concierge grabbed the keys out
of my hand to "hang on to them" for me when I went in to register. The guy
behind the desk had such a thick accent he could have told me to dip noodles in
the pool and then square dance for all I understood. He was not friendly nor did
he smile.
The rooms are old and the bathrooms are poor. Our marble counter top had a piece
of marble about 3 inches long a d 1/2 ince deep guoged out of it. The caulking
and grout around the tub was covered in Mildew. COuld not for the life of me
figure out how to close the plug in the tub. The "heavenly" beds are nice but no
nicer than I've had in many hotels this year.
FInally, they did not provide the correct size of coffee "Pod" for the coffee
maker, we were given no key to the mini bar and the bottles of water we were
told were "provided"in the room were $6 a piece! Other than the lobby and the
location it was not much more than any Best Western.

I stayed here with my wife and two boys on the way to a vacation in northern
Vancouver Island. We had a room with view of the coal harbor, the mountain and
Stanley park. Really nice. The boys liked the pools. The location is great
because, while you can have the view, its also a short walk from the streets
with nice restaurants. The service was good, but I got the feel that this is
more of a business/convention hotel, rather than a vacation hotel. I will stay
here again when I am in Vancouver.

The Westin is a nice hotel. It is spacious and has the amenities one would
expect. It's right along the water so you can take a nice morning stroll along
the walk path. You're also near Stanley Park, which is a cool place to visit if
you have a chance (I didn't this time).
It's a little off the main strip but you're a short cab ride away from almost
everything. And really, you can walk as well, it's really not that far - most
things are walkable in Van if you're willing to put the effort into it.
The hotel restaurant was good for brunch.
I paid extra for the "Traditional Harbour View" but was a little disappointed
with the view. Sure I was facing the water but all I saw was the marina and the
parked boats as I was on a low floor.
Overall, my experience was good at the Westin.
ps. I was there for business so price/value really wasn't that big of a
consideration but I usually try to be cost conscious nonetheless.
