Guest Review of the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown
Mar 1, 2011
We stayed one night at the Hilton Metrotown following a party function
held at the hotel. Our hosts had arranged a group rate so guests
wouldn't have to drive home late (and no worries about a designated
driver).
I'm surprised at so many glowing reviews for this hotel. While the
service was very good - both friendly and helpful, The rooms were
sub-par for a Hilton and though it wasn't a terrible stay, there were a
number of minor irritations that were bothersome.
While the group rate was fine, the room we received was a
disappointment. It was supposedly a King Deluxe as specified in our
Hilton profile, but was more the size of a smallish standard room in a
mid-range hotel.
So onto the little annoyances: The desk didn't have a chair, so we had
to phone and ask for one; the bathroom door wouldn't stay open unless we
propped it open (and it would literally slam shut if we didn't carefully
close it or prop it open); the TV remote didn't work unless you stood
one foot in front of the TV and aimed it directly; almost half the
closet was rendered unusable because space was taken up by covered-over
ducting or venting (thus the depth of this part of the closet was only
about 8 - 10 inches and not enough to hang clothes straight in); the
internet connection required a convoluted reconfiguring of your laptop
to use (not a simple plug-in and/or password as in other hotels); and,
surprisingly, there was no in-room safe. It's been a long time since
we've stayed at a hotel with no in-room safe..
Since we were only staying the one night, we just figured we'd grin and
bear it. And as stated before, none of the above were terrible enough to
ruin our brief stay. However, had we stayed longer, we'd have called
about the TV remote and BR door.
In short, the service is good, the rooms are small, and maintenance is
suspect. All in all, I consider this hotel very average.

My husband, seven-year-old and two-year-old daughters and I recently
visited Vancouver, BC and stayed at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown in
Burnaby. We picked it because of the reasonable rates and location:
close to a huge shopping centre (Metropolis at Metrotown, the biggest in
BC) and the SkyTrain transit system - which is just a block away.
Given our overall experience, I would definitely stay there again - and
would highly recommend it!

I always stay at this hotel when traveling to Burnaby on business, the
staff are always welcoming and genuinely friendly. The HHonors Breakfast
and Cocktail room is located on the top floor and offers spectaculars
views of the area and snow-capped mountain back drop. With many stores,
restaurants and Metrotown Mall directly opposite, it is an ideal
location to be based in the evening without transportation as everything
is within a short walking distance. The hotels shuttle-bus will also
take you anywhere within the local areas at No Charge. I can Highly
Recommend this Hotel to everyone.

Great stay for a Canucks Game as we didn't need to travel downtown with
our vehicle. Sky train 5 minute walk and Metrotown Shopping right there.
Enjoyed comfortable beds and clean rooms on 16th floor that included the
executive lounge serving evening appetizers and complimentary
continental breakfast. Excellent coffee and breakfast included scrambled
eggs, hash browns, fresh fruits, yogurts, cereals,
muffin/toast/pastries, and juices. Nice view and excellent service from
everyone. 74th Birthday for mother-in-law and staff recognized it by
sending fruit to her room and birthday cake at dinner. Very nice dinner
in Reflects with healthy fresh choices. 5 stops on sky train to Rogers
Center taking us out of the overcrowded downtown restaurants and
streets. Empty in room fridge's so you can bring in your own snacks and
drinks. Thank you from the Crazy About the Canucks Kamloops Family!

Stay here to avoid the heavy traffic of Downtown Vancouver. Always get
amazing service, friendly help, and the suites are clean. Must do the
breakfast buffet here it is really one of the best. Also dined in there
restaurant in the evening, and enjoyed it very much. The pool and hot
tub are a little small and a bit shabby.
Location is excellent. Your access to the Sky-train is unbeatable making
it very easy to get around without having to fight traffic. If you can
get a corner suite top floor, the views really are worth it with the
large floor to ceiling windows. |
