Guest Review of the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown
Dec 30, 2010
I chose this Hilton in Burnaby because I wanted to avoid the Vancouver
downtown area. The hotel is only 25-30 minutes away from the Vancouver
International Airport. The room is spacious, clean and very convenient
as it is so close to the Metrotown shopping center (approximately 10
minutes by foot). The service is good. The staff are highly efficient.
Someone complaint about the security of their car park but I found
absolutely no problem with it. I did not try their food but the
restaurant (Reflect on the 3/F) looks reasonable. It even provides free
internet !
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone on business or leisure trip.

This is a nice hotel. Check in was easy and friendly. I attended a
workshop in the hotel. The room was fine and the bed was ok, not as
comfortable as I expected though. I was surprised to find mold in the
bathroom which you shouldn't have at this caliber of hotel. One of the
worst things was there was no elevator from the parking garage and I had
to haul my bag up a couple flights of stairs, very inconvenient. It was
close to a mall with places to eat. I ate at the Red Robin which had
good food. When I pay for a nice hotel I expect to have a great
experience and this just wasn't the case. I've had much nicer stays at
Marriott.

I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions when I was travelling on
business. I often bring my mother who visits her 97 year-old brother in
a care facility nearby while I am at the office. I sometimes bring my
sister as well. We stay in an executive room or suite and utilize the
Opal Lounge and other services which are available to occupants of
executive rooms -- woth the additional cost.
The staff at the hotel are consistently excellent - courteous, helpful,
well-presented and they are particularly kind towards my elderly mother.
The staff in the Opal Lounge should be singled out for their helpfulness
and efficiency.
The breakfast and appetizers in the Opal Lounge are superior to
executive services offered at the Hilton in downtown Toronto. The view
is spectacular.
The rooms are decorated in restful "hotel chic" decor, are quiet and
always beautifully kept. If I had one criticism of the hotel, it would
be the housekeeping is a bit hit and miss. On this trip (four nights),
we had to ask for glasses, face cloths, hangers, blankets, robes and
toiletries. However, we asked, they were provided as requested.
We will stay here again without hesitation.

We stayed in Hilton for a weekend in August and we enjoyed it a lot. The
people are extremely nice and polite - the cleaning lady, the people at
breakfast, the receptionists. We liked the breakfast - there was an
option to add it for 5 CAD and I would recommend it. The area is very
functional - there are plenty of restaurants around (including a
Japanese place that we liked), the train to downtown and grocery
shopping. As other people mentioned, the noise can be a bit of an issue
if you neighbors are noisy. Ours had the TV on for a while and I could
hear them talking as well. It was OK because we didn't need to go to
sleep too early. I'd stay there again.

I recently stayed here before writing a very important licensing exam
the next morning at a nearby location. The front desk staff were very
polite and courteous; the hotel itself and my room were clean and the
bed was very comfortable. However, being a nervous wreck as it was, I
had trouble following asleep, which was augmented by hearing snoring
next door. When I finally got fed up, got dressed, and went down to the
front desk to ask for earplugs, they had none available, and also did
not offer to switch rooms for me. I also became very hungry later on at
night, but surprisingly even after paying over $200 for the room, they
had no mini fridge for me to store a snack for such an emergency.
After that awful night, I had ordered room service for the morning. It
was reasonably priced and tasted good, and the person who delivered the
food was very friendly, even to a fellow who had been up all night with
no sleep.
This was my first Hilton experience, and I have to say I was a little
disappointed. Overall the hotel is good and I think if I did not have a
noise issue, I would have been happy. However, because of the noise and
their lack of ability to correct that issue, I have to give it a
negative review. For the price you pay to stay at this hotel, I would
have expected better. |
