Guest Review of the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown

July 16, 2011
Just came back from the Hilton and was rather disappointed with a few things.
Negatives:
1. No acknowledgement of my status with Hilton.
2. Better selection of snacks in the Opal Lounge. Free alcohol? When I think of a lounge in an airport or hotel, I think of free booze. However, no free booze is offered which made me a bit disappointed.
3. More greetings from the front desk agents and Opal Lounge attendants since I felt unwelcomed a good number of times.
4. Better initiative of front desk agents.... Was asked to pick up my key cards after waiting an hour in the lounge while the room was getting cleaned since I came an hour early from the 3PM check-in time. It would've been great if the front desk agent came up and handed it to me in the lounge.

Positives:
1. Upgrade to a suite.
2. Pretty good breakfast spread in the Opal Lounge.
3. The bellman who took the initiative to help me make a reservation at a restaurant since I didn't want to use my phone and get charged extra. However, when I arrived at the restaurant there was no reservation made.... (Negative as well)....Luckily I was able to secure a table though.

The Hilton needs better training and friendlier employees who are willing to take the initiative to make a guests stay a lot better. I appreciate the lounge and suite upgrade but after leaving the hotel I was rather underwhelmed. Considering it's my first stay at a Hilton I'm not sure if I want to pursue my status with HHonors since there are pretty hotels and programs out there such as Hyatt and Starwood.

LOCATION is perfect, as being outside of Vancouver downtown. Location is offering Burnaby's malls right across the street. Vancouver downtown reachable easily by car, monorail, and taxi. Rooms are following Hilton standards, by offering everything essential. BREAKFAST is continental buffet style, offering variaties very well. I would recommend this hotel for business traveler, as Burnaby technological area is near by, no need to stay at traffic jams in the moring. This was hotel that I came back to due to great service and reasonable quailty and location. Stayed at this hotel twice for 1 week. Recommend!

Parking in the basement is challenging at best. I thought paying the $8 a noght would at least make finding a spot easier. I was lucky to find a spot in P2's. Good thing I rented a Smart car since the only open spots were for small cars.

The restaurant was a typical pricey Hilton place to eat. I ate dinner there my first night and after seeing my $50 bill, ate out the remaining nights. There is tons of places to eat within walking distance. Just walk to the mall next door. Breakfast at the Hilton worked out to be about $20 regardless if it was buffet or from the menu. I'm going to eat out for breakfast as well.

The room was dusty (included photo) and there was a wine glass outside my door for 2 days before it got picked up.

When I called for a wake up call, I gave up many times after letting it ring for about a minute and had to call back later to get a hold of someone. The automated wakeup call system via the photo wasnt working.

Internet was free, but only wired, but no wifi.

From one of the best front desk crews to an all round professional and modern metro hotel experience- with the exception perhaps of the somewhat tacky "Mall" next door- this hotel did everything right. Oh and the bed and suite were just perfect. Check out the the Opal Lounge on the executive level. The best appetizers (mini samosas!!!) and fantastic bites- impeccable service throughout the hotel. The breakfast buffet was superb. The skinny swimming pool on the 3rd floor deck is cute as is the jacuzzi. Oh and across the street is by far one of the hippest sushi restaurants- Sushi Garden- serving up incredible delights at incredibly great prices. Well worth it!
