Had a wonderful time staying at the Century Plaza. Our room had a full
kitchen which was very convenient and the room was spacious. It was
always kept clean and I appreciated all the efforts the hotel made to
keep it environmentally friendly. From the organic soaps and shampoo to
the toilet paper made of recycled paper to having the option of going a
day without cleaning, it made our stay that much better.

We've stayed here four times now since October 2000, with our most
recent stay in August 2010, so I thought it was high time we wrote a
review of our favorite hotel in Vancouver. There have been some
fantastic renovations over the last decade and we were hugely impressed
with the updated foyer and bar/restaurant area although the previous
times we found all areas charming and inviting. Travelling with teenage
sons, we've found having a one bedroom apartment with lounge and
kitchenette useful. This enabled us to stock up on basics from the
nearby supermarket and prepare a snack at any time. The kitchenette was
well stocked with sufficient crockery and utensils so that it was
possible to prepare a family meal. (Useful when you're staying for 2
weeks and don't want to eat out for every meal.)
Its location, comfort and excellent customer service are what bring us
back, time after time, whether for a family holiday or a couple city
break. I've read that some people find the sirens of ambulances
travelling to the neighboring hospital disturbing but to be honest,
we've always been so busy during the day that when we've fallen into
bed, we've slept easily. For us, these are usual city noises. The views
are stunning. Personally I prefer the view towards the mountains but the
sea views were great last year, especially for watching the annual
fireworks competition. We had the best view in the city!
The swimming pool area in the basement of the hotel is not particularly
aesthetically pleasing however when it's hot outside and you fancy a
quick swim, it's more than adequate. Towels and good quality toiletries
are supplied in the high spec changing rooms, through which you can
access the steam room, which is wonderful! The Spa facilities at this
hotel are second to none.
I can't praise this hotel highly enough. It's an affordable home away
from home. We hope to stay again within the next couple of years.

WE spent 4 nights here in early May. Had a large room with a king sized
bed, small-ish TV and and dated washroom. It was very comfortable
nonetheless and suited our needs to be right downtown Vancouver. The
main restaurant has good food but we chose to eat out most of the time
due to the limited choices and high prices. The coffee shop in the hotel
is also good.
WE didn't like the parking: its in a standard parkade behind the
building. Anyone from the street could walk in. We didn't think it was
safe nor secure. And it cost $17 per night. WE thought perhaps a better
guest rate should be offered especially in light of the type of
'service' it really was.
I used the spa for a Hawaiian massage. That was FANTASTIC. I called the
front desk about getting my hair done and they advised I should just
walk in to the salon. I did. I was met with some flippancy and then in a
moment or two, told there were no free spots available anymore for the
day. The attitude didn't make me want to book for the next day.
When we first checked in there were a number of 'irregularities' in the
room we were given. Within 5 minutes (honestly, that quickly) a bellman
was in our room and had us moved a.s.a.p. to a 'better' room.
Interesting. In the new room, we had some troubles with the toilet
running. Again, we had but to call and within a few short minutes, a
plumber arrived! Excellent service in this regard.
We weren't happy that the business center didn't offer free internet
service. You have to buy minutes in the coffee shop!

Just spent a few days here on a business trip. A recent remodel has left
the lobby feeling very upscale and fancy... a pretty big discrepancy
when you get to the room floors, which are in a different class than the
lobby. Hallways are cramped and a bit claustrophobic.
However, for the price, the rooms can't be beat. I was really impressed
with how spacious my King bed room was. There was a food area with
cooking space, a microwave and refrigerator. The area had a lot of space
to spread out and a great view of the city. I got the room for around
$115, which is a great value. If you call the hotel directly, it will
also beat any rate you get on a travel site.
I slept great on the bed. The location is spectacular - it's only a few
blocks away from everywhere you want to be.
Overall, a great budget option in the heart of downtown that is trying
hard to improve itself. Worth it, if you're looking to save money. |
