My fiance & I stayed here for one night on a Saturday. We arrived at
10am fully expecting not to get a room on the spot but to our surprise
we were efficiently checked in to a non-smoking room on the 25th floor.
The room was clean with an incredible view and a mini fridge/coffee
maker/flat screen TV. Small bathroom, outdated furniture, and a narrow
balcony. But the views - wow! We each had a 60 hour Shiatsu massage at
the little massage place in the lobby, it was $150 with a tip for both
of us, so not a bad price, and felt great. We ate at the breakfast
buffet in the
Cloud 9 "revolving" restaurant (I say revolving because it wasn't
moving) but weren't that impressed - $16.95 and not much selection,
powdered eggs, we had to wait over 15 minutes for clean plates to be
brought out. Overall, our stay was good, but the hotel definitely needs
updating. However, the views & the location on
Robson Street can't be beat.

Check in was really slow, not what we really wanted after a 10 hour
flight. Parking for our hire car was onsite at $15 a day, but could take
out the car as often as we'd like. So plus point there.
The deluxe room as they call it was a refurbished room, minus the
bathroom, this had seen better days. Due to the plumbing and being on
the 25th floor flushing the toilet meant it took 10 minutes to fill the
cistern. The shower pressure was not an issue and was fine.

Some Trip Advisor reviews said "kind of old" but it sounded like more
people liked it than not. I'll have to read more carefully next time.
When we checked in she said she was "upgrading" us to a larger room.
Well, it was large, especially the large ash tray (they had said
non-smoking, but it smelled of tobacco. The balcony w the gorgeous view
had cigarette butts all over the floor. The cabinets had been painted
over but there was moldy-like stuff inside. The tub was dirty or
stained. So we asked to be moved and were, to a smaller room. A wooden
piece of furniture from what looked like the 40's or 50s, that a beaver
had taken a bite out of it . Balcony (with the nice view) was "filthy",
black all over.
We checked out and moved to the Renaissance on the water

We stayed for 2 nights here and enjoyed the ability to walk to
restaurants and parks. We walked to
Stanley Park,
English Bay and even
Granville Island
from this location but would recommend taking the water
taxi to Granville as the walk took a while and went over a long bridge.
The building seems to be a bit old but in general was fine for our stay.
We had drinks in the
Cloud 9 restaurant and the view from there is
spectacular.

The hotel is a bit run down, and there is quite a lot of noise from both
the street, the hallway, and the other rooms -- you are never in doubt
to whether your neighbors use their bathroom. The hotel staff also chose
to vacuum the hallway at 8am in the morning.
That said, the location is not too bad, and I got an ok deal on it. They
have parking on the premises and internet too (you have to pay for both,
naturally).
I probably would look somewhere else to stay should I visit again.

I stayed here before and was prepared for what you get, I was saving a
few bucks at the end of my vacation for one night, however others who
have never been here need warning!
Staff was fast and very friendly at front desk both and check in and
when I required a room change. It was a Saturday night and the floor I
was placed on was very noisy people yelling and partying. I was
relocated promptly to a quieter floor. Rooms are very outdated and tired
looking. The bathroom was not very clean, and tub appeared to have black
mold around the tile sealing Walls are paper thin and worse if room has
connected door so avoid that type of room. Everything in rooms just
feels dirty, other than bathroom the rest was clean but, everything is
so old it just feels dirty some how. It feels like you are staying at a
very cheap motel. In fact i have stayed at cheap motels that had better
rooms. Staff are okay and location wonderful but other wise its a dump!
Such a shame, my parents speak of staying here in the 70s and it was
such a gem back than back no renos since that time, make it terribly
dated.. Consider this review a warning avoid this property |
