Guest Reviews of the Hampton Inn Downtown Vancouver

This hotel was a nice surprise. We saw a lot of reviews for
other Vancouver hotels that talked about small rooms - not here.
We had a 1 br suite and it was really nice and roomy.
The staff was excellent and very helpful, especially one person
(I wish I got her name!)
The sink had trouble getting hot water or pressure, which was
strange because the shower didn't seem to have an issue. Bed
comfort, fridge, heat all worked as hoped. Breakfast seemed to
be a notch higher than expected - and they didn't have a problem
with me stopping in a little early!
The area was wonderful - we had a view of the stadium (right
across the street) and could walk to 1000 restaurants that
seemed to be open early to late. Easy walking to shopping,
longer walk to the aquarium & convention center. The walk was
good - past coffee shops & stores.
The only negative was the expensive parking - $25/day & tough to
find a space unless you have a tiny car. Otherwise, I'd highly
recommend it!
Room Tip: High floor - beautiful views!

Stayed at the Hampton for a total of 3 nights. It is just a
wonderful Hotel and I couldn't find fault with it at all.
Breakfasts are great, staff good - friendly and helpful. Great
location, clean, lovely rooms. Free bikes (biked to and around
Stanley Park - really recommend this). Bikes come with helmets,
backpack, water and a map - fantastic. I would really recommend
this Hotel as found it excellent value for money. Would
definitely stay there again.

I usually rave about Hampton Inn's and Hilton properties in
general. However, I was a little underwhelmed by my recent stay
here in Vancouver. The staff were mostly pleasant but in no way
were they extra friendly or accommodating. While the two free
truffles for HHonors were indeed delicious - real, warm, genuine
service would have left a sweeter taste in this reviewers mouth.
We booked and received a 1 bedroom suite. The only redeeming
feature in my mind was the standard Hampton bed which is always
comfortable. The room itself needed a major overhaul. The carpet
and sofa bed in particular were looking quite worn and sad.
There were hairs stuck to the ceiling above the shower when we
arrived. Long black hairs. Not the kind of thing you expect for
$230 a night. The shower itself was also disappointing with poor
water pressure and woeful drainage. Standing ankle deep in water
is not something I would expect and do not appreciate from this
hotel chain.
Noise is an issue in this hotel. Neighbors can be heard, air
conditioning can be heard (even when the room A/C is off) and
most notably - rattling of pipes can be heard.
I found the breakfast to be quite good by Hampton standard. The
usual fare was there and everything was frequently refilled.
Complimentary use of the hotel bikes was appreciated and the
gentleman who assisted us with these was the standout of staff
we encountered.
Parking was just over $25 a night to self park.
Aside from the two truffles at check-in there were no perks for
HHonors gold members which was a little disappointing.
With the service and value absent at this property it is
unlikely we will stay again when visiting Vancouver.

Trust the good reviews on this one! I'm sure glad I did. This
was my first stay at a Hampton Inn & Suites, and I was
pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I walked in and was hit
with a burst of light...large window, clean modern furniture, a
cute kitchen with a dishwasher, glass double-door entry into the
bedroom with a king-size bed, two large flat screen tv's in the
bedroom and living room, two closets and a nice size bathroom.
My family came with me on this trip so I wanted a hotel that
would be accommodating and this was it. As other reviewers have
said, it's located on the opposite end of Robson St. near the
stadium so it's more quiet which I liked. But a short 10 min
walk and you're in the heart of Robson. There are plenty of
eateries (the Wrap place up the street is good), banks, and a
grocery store a couple blocks away. We were able to by snacks to
store in the kitchen which helped save money. The kitchen is
fully stocked with cutlerly etc. so you can cook if you'd like.
We chose to use the microwave :) Also, the hotel was super quiet
and you couldn't hear your next door neighbors. I felt like we
were the only one's there! I had colleagues who stayed at the
more fancier hotels near the water & convention center, but I
wouldn't trade my location for anything
Cons:
After my glowing review, who'd think I had any cons lol. I felt
the staff was hit and miss. Some were more helpful than others,
and there was this one lady who spoke so fast I could barely
keep up. Everytime I spoke with her I felt like she was rushing
me away so I tried not to seek her help. Also, the tall thin guy
who handled the luggage always had a grimmace on his face like
he didn't want to be bothered. It was SO obvious when we checked
in and he was asked to take our bags. I couldn't believe he
acted that way...you could tell the lady at the desk tried not
to notice, but how could you not!! Incidentally he was the same
guy who got our luggage on the way out. Same demeanor. I did
find Keith and Linda helpful.
The king bed's comfort level was OK, but the pull out couch
needed much help. I dealt with it.
Zachary's restaurant provides room service.....DON'T BOTHER!!!
Our food was cold and didn't taste good at all. Normally I'd
sent it back, but we ate it because we were tired and hungry.
Room Tip: Get a high floor and you won't hear ANYTHING! |
