Review of the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel Vancouver

I picked this hotel mainly because of its location and the fact that it
offered free parking. During check-in I realized that the receptionist
was from the same country as I was so we had a little talk and she
kindly explained to me how to get to the city centre and provided me
with a map. The hotel's location is very good, it's only 10 km away from
the airport, and the downtown can be reached by bus that stops near the
hotel. The room was a of a standard size, exactly what you would find in
any other hotel in the Wyndham chain. Free internet access is available
via Wifi or the business centre. The hotel has its own restaurant and a
bar, and vending machines with drinks and snacks are also present.
Overall, I rate this hotel an excellent choice for guests who arrive by
car and don't want to be charged for parking, as well as for those who
need to stay closer to the airport, yet not too far from downtown. I
would stay again.

I have never had a problem, but this hotel is most definitely not the
kind of hotel I expect to. Our room was horrible. For $ I expect to at
least be comfortable in the room. We were on a trip of a lifetime and
this room/hotel experience reduced me to tears. The room smelled
horrible, the comforter was filthy, there were holes burned in the
blanket and the wallpaper was peeling, the remote control for the TV was
literally falling apart, the walls were paper thin. We heard the guy
next to us coughing all night! On top of it we had no control of the
heat/air. We literally froze and finally at 11:00 PM we called the front
desk telling them we couldn't figure out how to control the air/heat,
only to find out that they controlled the air/heat for the whole
building. We froze the entire night.
Check out.
Just about everything.

Nice hotel in nice and safe area. Mini mall is just 5 minutes walking
and you can buy many thinks there (food, drugstore, liquor store). Every
Saturday hotel offering Salsa party for $10 (until 2 am) and in the
basement you can experience hotel night club with more club style. VERY
FRIENDLY and clean hotel.
Salsa party which is every Saturday in hotel club. Excellent + hotel
night club.
Not offering breakfast.

I'm fine with the hotel.
Friendly staff.
Very small rooms. Very thin bath towels.

I was not at all impressed with the hotel rooms. Things like shower mat
were missing. The sheets were not that clean either. They did not meet
the expectation for the price I paid.
The view was good.
The hotel room was not something I expected for the price I paid. The
rooms were missing some of the necessary amenities.

So I read some pretty horrific reports about this place. My expectations
were at the low end of the spectrum, especially since I'd gotten a
50/night USD rate off of
www.allure-hotels.com. Have to admit I prejudged the place as a pit
and it felt confirmed when I drove up. Actually it was a wrong first
impression. Sure the building looked not so new. My checkin was very
pleasant and even with my cheap rate was given a room on the 6th out of
7 floors. I fully expected the room do be a dump, but for the price, I
could deal with it. Well again, I was surprised. Room 628 with 2 double
beds wasn't bad. No drooping wallpaper, nothing ratty, was not bad. I
took plenty of pictures do document what I saw. What negatives about the
room I did discover were the heater fan was a little noisy on start (it
quieted down quickly enough), There was a tiny amount of mold in the
caulking of the soap dish in the shower, and the TV remote batteries
were dead.
Location seemed to be just fine. It wasn't downtown, but it didn't take
me very long to drive it. My destination also included Burnaby and it
was only 15 or so min there. It was kind of a handy location overall.
There was an ATM in the lobby to get cash, and there were several places
to eat nearby as well. They did serve the typical continental breakfast
which was about as good as anyone else. I did try the place called
Reno's and for a cheap meal and breakfast all day, wasn't so bad, not
fancy by any means.
