Guest Review of the Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver

I will echo all the positive comments about this hotel. We were
especially pleased with the level of soundproofing. Not a peep from
those around us or from outside, even with crowds. One point for
improvement: the hotel needs more "heavenly beds." These were OK but
really hard - more of what you would find in a European hotel.

We recently spent 3 nights at the Pan Pacific Vancouver prior to going
on a cruise to Alaska. We would recommend this hotel to anyone cruising
from Vancouver or just wanting a city centre hotel.
We took the SkyTrain from Vancouver Airport to Waterfront Station.
Although it wasn’t a long walk from the main station entrance to the
hotel, it seemed longer because we had luggage in tow. There was a
station entrance closer to the hotel than the one we used but we
couldn’t find it from inside the station.
The entrance to the hotel and the entrance to the convention centre are
together, so you enter a large cavernous space and have to look for the
escalators up to the hotel reception area. I think this detracts from
the hotel and makes the public areas very open and noisy, not quite in
keeping with this standard of hotel.
Reception was very friendly, welcoming and efficient. We had booked a
Deluxe Harbour/Mountain view room and were assigned a room on the 19th
floor. The room itself was spacious, well appointed and very
comfortable. The view was excellent, looking out over the harbour
towards Stanley Park, Lions Gate Bridge and the mountains. We also got
an interesting view of the different cruise ships which moored directly
below us during our stay, and of the many floatplanes taking off and
landing.
It is an easy walk into the city centre for shopping and restaurants.
There is in fact a small food court on the other side of the road from
the hotel which can be reached without going outside – it has Tim
Horton’s, McDonald’s and a few other choices. Vancouver has an excellent
public transport system, easily accessible from the hotel, although on
this visit we didn’t use it. We didn’t eat at the hotel restaurants,
eating in the city centre instead. I had planned to try the Sunday
Brunch having read about it online but when we looked at the restaurant
that morning it didn’t seem as if the brunch was particularly extensive,
certainly not as I’d expected from what I’d read and from the price
being charged. Indeed, on subsequent mornings I couldn’t see that the
ordinary breakfast buffet looked any different to what had been set up
on the Sunday.
On the day of our cruise Bell Services collected our luggage and
delivered it direct to our ship. So all we had to do was check-out and
take the elevator downstairs directly to the cruise terminal.
The Pan Pacific Vancouver isn’t an inexpensive option. I know some of
our fellow cruisers were able to get a good price through Hotwire fairly
close to the cruise date but I booked well ahead, to guarantee that we
would stay there. Having spent some time researching other city centre
options and prices, I decided to splurge on the Pan Pacific because it
was where I really wanted to stay. I’m very glad that I did.
By the way, we loved the mats in the elevators that showed which day of
the week it was!

Quiet and sparking clean rooms were given to us on the 8th floor. We
booked 3 rooms for 6 adults through Hotwire.
We are very happy with the room though the view may not be that great.
For the price we paid, it is a deal ! Internet is about $ 15.00 and is
extra. Parking is $39.50.
Down at the basement, there is a food court where you find Starbucks,
Subway, Mrs. Lee's bakery, McDonalds. To our surprise, Mcdonalds also
takes the US dollar for payment.
The hotel is walking distance to Gastown.
I think it caters mainly to the cruise ship passengers. Nevertheless we
would not hesitate to stay here again.
Room Tip: If you come in a bit early for check in time, you could leave
your baggage at the front desk and they will deliver it to your room. |
