Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver

Guest Review of the Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver

Found myself unexpectantly needing a hotel for one night in Vancouver. Booked the hotel the same night I would be staying at it.

Front desk staff were polite and the check in procedure was fast enough.

The furnishings in the hotel were bland - nothing fancy and slightly dated. But nothing to complain about.

Though I had requested a room with a queen I was given a room with 2 doubles. As it was only 1 night I didn't complain.

Bathroom was small. No towel racks - though there was a spot where one should of been. Again only staying one night so didn't complain.

But my biggest complaint was how loud the street noise was. I have stayed in many downtown hotels but I have never experienced such loud street noise. My experience with other hotels is that when the windows are closed you can't hear the street noise. But at this hotel with the windows closed I could still hear the street noise.

Check out was fast.

Having read some of the previous reviews on this hotel I was dreading staying there but I was in for a happy suprise. The rooms were small but with a queen sized bed, well laid out and very clean. We were 2 couples and our friends also had a very good room. Our room was near the lifts but we could not hear a lot of noise. The hotel has a good pool which we well used during our stay. The Sandman is well situated for visiting the sights, of which there are many. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Previous reviews had complained about them but we found them to be very helpful. We did eat one night in the hotel and found it very good although you are spoilt for choice in Vancouver.

We stayed at the Sandman for an overnight stay in a family room. When arriving at checkin the queue was enormous and we had to wait for what was easily 20-30 minutes. Upon check in we realised that we had left all of our paperwork/passports in the cab we had arrived at the hotel in which had since departed. Clearly in a mad panic, the receptionist took control of the situation ringing round a number of different cab companies.
Fortunately, after around 3-4 attempts, she located the cab company, the driver and the paperwork and passports - result! Taking control of the situation and resolving what was a very distressing time caused us all to relax and start enjoying our trip. The cab driver arrived within the hour and everything was as it should be - it's not often that people are this honest these days!
We went to our room (which was huge!) and clean and headed into Vancouver for the night. The following morning, we had breakfast and what a fantastic breakfast it was too! Again, the staff were exceptional, the breakfast arrived within what was probably less than 5 minutes and the food tasted just great! We decided to opt for a kids breakfast each, expecting that the 'adult' breakfast's would be too big. The kids breakfasts were more than adequate for what we wanted and kept us full until lunch time. A little on the expensive side, but still worth it.
On the night, we had dinner at the Sports Bar in the hotel - not quite as nice as breakfast. Meal was very nice but again, a little on the expensive side. The 'mini' mousse is really yummy so definitely recommend that! We were put off a little by the atire that the staff were wearing but if your a single bunch of lads you will love that part!
Overall, the hotel is comfortable and clean and I would definitely stay here again

We stayed 3 nights before our cruise and 2 on our return. An ok hotel. After 2 phone calls to reception, security sorted out the very very noisy guests in the next room, it was unbelievable the noise they made having a party. The following weekend was the Canuck game in town, it was amazing to watch from the window the crowds in the streets, we really thought we were in for another rowdy weekend in the hotel but far from it as it was very quiet thankfully. We arrived at 10am from our cruise and were pleased to be told our room was ready.
