Guest Review of the Sylvia Hotel in Vancouver

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Sylvia Hotel! The best thing about
the Sylvia is the location. It is located on the English Bay right next
to Stanley Park. We loved being so close to the sea wall. The hotel is
also located next to Denman street which is home to a variety of
restaurants, bike rental shops, and a grocery store. The West End is a
wonderful and safe part of Vancouver with much to offer. Everyone at the
Sylvia was very helpful. They were always willing to help if we had
questions about how to get somewhere by bus.
The room was small; however, we were expecting it and felt that it was
big enough for the both of us. We felt it was a good value for the cost.
This hotel cost much less than I thought it would due to it's excellent
location. The only thing I would have liked that the room did not have,
was ventilation in the bathroom.
We would definitely stay at the Sylvia again! I don't think we would
even consider staying anywhere else is we were to make a return visit to
Vancouver.

I stayed at the Sylvia Hotel June 12 and 13. It is hands down the best
hotel in Vancouver for location and ambiance. Our room was at the front
of the hotel overlooking English Bay. To watch a heron fly past the
window and fall asleep to the sound of waves rolling on the beach was
beyond perfection. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the
hotel staff are simply the best.

Needed a 2 bedroom apartment, which they had at a competitive price
including underground parking. The hotel is old and a little faded but
comfortable. Service was excellent and the rooms quiet. The BIG plus was
the location next door to Stanley Park and the waterway footpath that
leads into town. 15 minutes from the hotel brings you to the first of
the little ferry stops which are a jem. $15 gets you the royal tour up
to the Science Museum and back with as many stop offs and pick ups as
you like. The footpaths are great by the water and reminds me a bit of
Brisbane.
A good stay, recommended.

Located in a heritage building, our room had been refurbished and was
extremely comfortable. Although the hotel had entertainment and a
popular bar, no noise reached us from revelers. No kitchenette, but
location was near Denman St (buses and cafes, plus supermarket), and
also close to bay and park. Staff were helpful and looked after us lost
Australians.

Stayed for two nights the Thurs & Friday before Memorial day weekend for
concert. Paid $405 U.S. total for two queen bed room on 2nd floor-
mildly overpriced. Cab from YVR was a little under $40. Quaint, old
style building and decor in a fabulous location. Staff very friendly and
rooms were average. Enjoyed one delicious beer (Raven Lager) in
downstairs bar, did not eat. Would return 3.75 / 5.

The room on 2nd floor was so small I couldn't find any space for luggage
& stored it on chairs. TV was placed at 90 degrees to bed & unwatchable/
because there was no room at end of bed for a bureau. My wife & I had to
practice one way traffic to move around. Walls were paper thin & we
heard every word or cry, of family next to us including/ alarm in
morning. No shelf in bathroom or ventilation fan. Ventilation window in
bathroom opened to an inside space like something out of an Alfred
Hitchcock movie with secret passages. Noises from other rooms emanated
from it.
Bed was so hard my back was sore every morning.
No soaps or extras in room at all. Price was up there especially after
all the added taxes , etc. Elevator was weird, with one set of doors
opening on different wall after standing in different elevator location.
No heat or AC in rooms that we could find. Certainly no information.
Opening window was only option but not really safe on 2nd flr.
Location is the only redeeming quality of this overpriced antique. |
