Guest Review of the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel Vancouver

We stayed here in May, 2011 after travelling for around three or more weeks it
was the last stop on our trip. It was a nice looking hotel, we checked in with
friends and were given a twin room which we hadn't realized the travel agent had
booked instead of a king. We were told by our staff member that we could change
to another room no problems, but our friends were told they would have to pay
for an upgrade and that there weren't any rooms available. Then our staff member
told the other one that there was one room left and so she changed theirs as
well. The rooms were large and really nice with big comfy beds. The rooms were
cleaned each day and we didn't see the cleaners anytime during the stay which is
good when you are tired and just want to have a rest. The breakfast was good if
a bit pricey but my husband said he had the best Eggs Benedict of the trip
there. The location is fantastic the bus tours stop across the road every 20
mins or so and this is really convenient. We did go over to check out the new
Fairmont around the corner and this seemed to host a slightly younger crowd than
our hotel and the actual hotel was a bit more contemporary had a band playing in
the lobby area which were really good. This hotel provides a piano player who is
good but the entertainment is more refined and aimed at a slightly older crowd
than what we were. Staff were great in the bar area couldn't do enough and the
concierge was helpful although we did ask about a mexican restaurant in Gastown
and while she offered us a few other restaurant names she didn't tell us not to
go there and unfortunately this was the worst food of the whole trip and we got
to sit and watch people selling drugs out the window, so that wasn't the best
experience. All in all this is a really good hotel in a great location.

We stayed at the Fairmont after arriving at the Canada Place Crusie Terminal.
The ship arrived about 8 a.m. and we were off by 9:15. Walked across the street
and checked in immediately. The front desk staff made every effort to
accommodate us and gave us a beautiful room with a view of the cruise terminal.
The bell staff were very friendly and prompt with our luggage.
The room was well-appointed with extremely comfortable beds (great pillows too).
Perfectly clean and updated. The location was just right for us to tour the city
and close to AVIS rental car pick up the next day. We had dinner in the
restaurant and were most impressed with the service and quality of food.
Very expensive meal, but we thought the price was fair. Note: our only surprise
was that our 8 year old daughter was not allowed in the hotel lounge area ( due
to alcohol being served) so we had pre-dinner cocktails in the completely empty
dining room - next to the lounge.
Great stay and we would not hesitate to return even if not arriving on a cruise.
It was a good location from which to tour downtown.

I stayed here midweek for business in early January when the town was still
sleeping off its New Years' party hangovers. Consequently, the hotel was nice
and quiet - such that I was comp'd a free room upgrade to a beautiful harbour
view room! When vacancy permits, free upgrades are permitted, which I love about
Fairmont. As I had signed up for the free Presidents' Club ahead of time, I had
free WIFI during my stay. The staff were supah-friendly and as a solo female
traveller, made me feel safe and comfortable.
I dined in the lounge one night, where the wait staff were all very pleasant and
offered great service. I custom designed my own pizza, which was phenomenally
tasty - perfect for a cold winter's night!
I had stayed at this hotel about 15 years ago and can say that not much has
changed structurally, but the decor, bedding, etc has definitely been updated,
as with the televisions. I'd return for the location, service, facilities and
view!

This hotel is nice but not worthy of the same rating as a top hotel. I arrived
late last night, and was handed keys at the entrance as a "President's Club
member." The keys hadn't been activated, however, and didn't work in the door.
Room is nice (nice size, room has side view of water. . and air conditioning
equipment on roof next door). No separate shower. No bathrobe. Called to ask for
the New York Times to be delivered in the morning, and was told it can be
obtained by walking to the Pan Pacific Hotel across the street. (Message to
self: I should have stayed there!) At 6:30am, the alarm rang. I guess management
doesn't instruct cleaning staff to turn alarms off when people leave. I'm hoping
the rest of my stay is smoother.
