Guest Reviews of the Plaza 500 Hotel in Vancouver

Our family met in Vancouver for a reunion. As we were not able to stay
all at the same hotel, I stayed at the Plaza. The check in took some
time, as there were only two desk agents but they were very friendly and
helpful. The room was nothing special but for the rate we paid it was
ok. The location of the hotel is great, as it is just a couple of blocks
away from the Canada Line, which brings you downtown, where the actual
reunion took place. Plusside from the hotel free internet and nice
staff. downside 20 dollars for parking.

Thank you for sharing your experience . I’m happy to hear that your
experience at the Plaza 500 Hotel met your needs. It is always a great
pleasure for me to read and share lovely feedback about our staff. As we
begin to get underway with lots of exciting changes and updates to this
property it is the positive friendly staff that will continue to make a
great difference for our guests.
Thank you again I hope that we will have the opportunity to have you as
our guest again if you find your way to Vancouver in the near future.

We took the Skytrain from the airport to the Broadway-City Hall station,
then it is two blocks up-hill to the Plaza 500. As others before us, we
were a bit worried as we walked the shabby corridors with worn and loose
carpet to our room, but found our room to be fine, modern, and clean,
though mattress comfort could have been better. The staff was friendly,
the location very good just two blocks from the
Skytrain, which we used for our travels down to Gas Town and the
waterfront area.. Bus service to Stanley Park across the street, #15
bus, transfer to #19 was easy. We bought a packet of Faresaver tickets
across the street in the mall at Safeway (we were two couples) ($17 for
a book of 10) which was convenient, good for Skytrain or bus. coming
back from Stanley Park #19 to the Waterfront station, and back to the
hotel. The mall across the street from the hotel is a great convenience,
and we ate each evening meal at Sam Nadison's "Lifestyles" bar and
grill. This is a very friendly neighborhood bar run by Sam, a very out
going fellow who will make you feel at home. He knew our names when we
came back the second evening. A somewhat limited Italian oriented menu,
about $10 for a baked dish, salad, and roll. The White Spot across the
street was convenient for breakfast, food o.k. and service excellent.
Probably the best testament for this hotel is that we would stay at the
Plaza 500 again. Yes, it needs some up-dating, but it is a good value.

My daughter and I spent the night there. First problem started out with
their check in time of 4:00 p.m.. Would never have stayed there if I
knew it was such a late check in. Made it very hard to do the tourist
things and come back to clean up for dinner and a show. They did get us
in by 2:00. When we arrived in the room the T. V. was not working, the
remote control had black electrical tape holding the batteries in. there
was dried gum on the bed spread. Phone in the bath room not working.
When we left 2 hours later (after a request for a working TV., nothing
was done. Requested a new room and requested that our luggage be moved
for us while we were out. Had to push for that to be done. Arrived back
at hotel at 11:00 to a new room. In the morning we notice that the
bottled water and desk were all dusty. We dealt with 4 different
employees and never received any apology. We also had to explain the
problem each time to the new employee. You think that they would have a
log book listing guest complaints. Problems may have been minor by their
selves but when add up were annoying. Didn't help when no body seem to
care about our complaints. Even when I told the morning check out clerk
I wanted the manager name to file a complaint she did not offer any
apology. Very poor customer service. Will not go back to this hotel even
if offered a free night stay.

The stingest hotel I have ever been to. Have to plead for extra pillows
or blankets. Hallways shabby. Even the cheapest hotel has ice making
machines. Used to be a great hotel, obviously has changed hands (the new
hands seem to be far more interested in making a buck then providing
Vancouver type hospitality)

First off lets start with the obvious issues. This hotel claims to be a
downtown hotel but it is clearly not located downtown. There is easy
access to downtown, but advertising on sites like Travelocity and
Priceline stating that it is a downtown hotel is a LIE! Also, the three
star rating is incredibly generous. I'd give it two stars at the most.
There are also many sites that state that it has a workout facility, but
that is another lie. There is no workout room, but a gym across the
street that you have to pay eight dollars a day for. I used
Travelocity's "Top Secret" hotels and put in downtown, three star
hotels. What I got was this two star NOT DOWNTOWN hotel. The fact that
there is a skytrain that takes you downtown does not mean it's downtown.
The halls are dirty and the carpet is puckering clearly from a flood.
The floor in the hallway is also not even and slopes up as you walk down
the hall. Should I take pictures of this and post it on here? You would
be shocked that this is a three star hotel. There are corners with bad
smells and the elevators don't work. As a former resident of Vancouver I
can plainly state that there are much better hotels in Vancouver, and
you deserve to have a nice hotel that compliments your stay in this
beautiful city. Shame on Travelocity for lying to me about this hotel. I
want a refund!

Hotel corridors will make you cringe with their baggy worn carpet and
old smell. But once you're in your room, it's a reasonable standard.
Great location just 2 minutes walk to the Skytrain, which made getting
around Vancouver a breeze. Nice area to stay in opposite City Hall and a
local shopping centre. Good choice for the price we paid.

After a 20 minute wait to check in because there was only 1 person at
the desk, I was given a room far, far from the elevator and had to
travel meandering hallways with old wrinkled carpet. I couldn’t get into
my room as the pass card didn’t work. I then had to drag my luggage back
to the front desk to get my card re magnetized. When I did get into the
room, there was a heavy motor sound, banging behind the head of the bed.
I left the luggage there and went back again to the lobby and requested
another room. I was then given a room right across from the elevator and
it was very noisy with people talking loudly outside my door as they
waited for the elevator. The hotel was busy and I was told this was the
only room I could have. I had originally requested a room on the back of
the hotel as the front faces a very busy road and intersection. My
original room was at the back but the new room faced the very busy
street and the only way to get air into the room was with a noisy air
conditioner or opening the door and listening to heavy traffic and
sirens. The room staff were very nice and quickly supplied a raised
toilet seat and extra pillows. The front desk staff were courteous and
helpful but having one person on the desk at a very busy time is a bad
idea. |
