Guest Review of the Westin Grand Hotel Vancouver

Travel to Vancouver once a year and always stay within the Starwood family
properties, previously stayed with the Westin Bayshore, not a good experience,
thought I would leave starwood, but I couldn't, this time made reservations at
the Westin Grand on Robson, The Westin Grand restored my faith in Starwood, the
customer service was outstanding, large room with separate bedroom and extremely
clean. Very close to the Canada Line to connect to the airport, no longer will
pay the high price of a taxi. A quick coffee or bite to eat, your favorites
right next door.

We stayed at the Westin Grand in Vancouver, BC last month. We were greeted by a
very friendly and professional Valet/Bell Hop staff who were very courteous.
Valet cost $31USD/day. The hotel entrance is a little small and difficult to
find being hidden behind one of the smaller alleys. You also have to take the
elevator to the second floor to the lobby, or climb a number of steps. We
requested a 1 bedroom suite and when we got to the room, found it to be a little
cramped. It also had a very small patio overlooking other buildings beside it.
The pool was a decent size, however by 4:15pm, the sun hides behind the
surrounding buildings making the pool cold and shady. The hot tub beside the
pool was very relaxing and not very busy. Although the location of the hotel
states it is on Robson, it actually is closer to Grandville which is about 5-6
blocks from the heart of Robson. If you were to walk to some of the great
Japanese restaurants toward the end of Robson from the hotel, that’s not for the
faint of heart since it’s about 10-12 blocks... BTW Save yourself the stomach
ache and bad service, stay away from Hon's Wun Tun House on Robson. If you came
to party, it would probably be a good hotel since it is close to the nightlife
on Grandville. If you however bring your kids, I would recommend not staying
here and stay at the Westin Bayshore instead. Since you are close to the
nightlife, even on the 15th floor you will hear the street noise and sirens all
night. You are also surrounded on all side with other residential buildings, so
you can say bye to your privacy. Overall, nice to have stayed here to have seen
another Westin option, however I probably won’t stay here again unless the other
SPG hotels were sold out.

$31 valet parking was a little high and then check in was on the 2nd floor with
a line and 1 person to check in people. I was in a corner suite and the suite
was incredibly tiny. There wasn't enough room to put up my luggage after we
opened the pullout bed. (family of 2 adults
and 2 kids) The bedroom only had space barely enough to squeeze past the bed to
use the bathroom. There was not enough closet space to put luggage or anything.
Tall building looked deceptively attractive, the ambiance and rooms tell a
different story altogether. Nothing Grand about this hotel oops I mean motel.
How did the get 4 stars? Someone was drinking on the job for sure. I give it 2
thumbs down. Try the hyatt around the corner or the four seasons for a real 4
star experience. I have stayed at plenty of high end boutique or other hotels
and this one was by far not worthy of the westin name let alone westin grand.
This place is worse than a 20 year old best western. I am very critical because
if I'm going to spend my hard earned money then I want to get the service or
standard I pay for. Pay for what you get and this place was a total rip off.

Very comfortable accommodations. The staff was superb and the shopping in the
area was fantastic! I'd recommend this hotel just for the beds themselves, but
the hotel is so much more. If you're headed to Vancouver you need to stay here.

Conveniently situated downtown hotel with an outstandingly helpful staff. Nice
sized, pleasantly decorated rooms with very comfortable beds and pillows. Air a
bit noisy. Only gripe: The suite with bedroom and sitting roomed we booked only
had one queen sized bed and we like two beds. Rather annoyed when they charged
us $20 extra per night to switch to a regular room with two beds. Parking
convenient but expensive -- $26 per night. Restaurant good - beautiful
presentation of food, excellent wait staff, expensive (over $50 Canadian for
breakfast). Expensive WiFi connection, so I didn't connect.
