Hotel review of the Barclay Hotel in Vancouver
Oct 22, 2009
Stayed 3 nights and the room was very basic - no tea or coffee making
facilities, the air conditioner didn't work and the room was very small
and stuffy. We were on the 1st floor (our ground floor) at the back so
it was nice and quiet, but the hotel is full of stairs which could be a
problem if you have heavy cases (as we did) or are less mobile. If there
was a lift I didn't see it! Even getting into the hotel was up a flight
of stairs.
The location is good - right inthe middle of Robson Street. The buffet
style breakfast was again pretty basic, but very cheap, and in Vancouver
this is a real plus! The staff were for the most part friendly and
capable.
A good place to stay if you are prepared for budget accommodation.

Very basic hotel, good for somewhere to crash. Their breakfast is ok.
Nothing too special. Front desk were friendly enough. Old fashioned
hotel but very good location on Robson St. Two-bed room I stayed was
large but no special facility or service. Reasonable cheap price

Our room was huge, and unexpectedly came with a separate large lounge.
Decor is a bit tired, and facilities are limited, but its priced
accordingly. A very easy walk Downtown and to Coal Harbour, where the
seaplanes take off, so excellent location. Overall, not special, but a
fine place to sleep for a weekend in Vancouver.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Whilst the hotel is in need of
refurbishment it was, never the less comfortable. The hotel is on Robson
Street and is very close to numerous restaurants and also only a short
stroll to Stanley Park. Staff were very polite and helpful. We had a
room at the rear of the premises and therefore it was nice and quiet, no
street noise. For the cost, it is very good value in this high priced
city.

I booked this hotel because of the reasonable rates, for a stay of one
week in May. I and a friend rented a Deluxe Twin room. In our case it
meant that in addition to the usually hotel room, bed, two night tables,
lamp, phone, clock radio, desk, chair, fridge, armoire containing a TV,
with remote, as well as three clothes drawers, there was a second room.
This second room was the inner room so there was no window to the
outdoors. There was a nine paneled window (minus the glass) between the
two rooms. Both rooms had doors which closed off the hallway. There was
a clothes closet, with a door, in the hall way and the bathroom, which
had a window, was off the hallway.
The hotel is old and worn but is was clean. The linens were scent free,
a plus for me since I have asthma. No harsh chemicals were used in the
cleaning of the bathroom or the rooms. There was no shortage hot water.
All the staff were polite and helpful at all times.
I have been to Vancouver more than forty times so I was well aware of
the excellent location of the Barclay Hotel. The location allows one to
walk to major shopping, Stanley Park, English Bay, numerous restaurants,
bars, night clubs and the Skytrain. If you are not a big walker you can
get public transit within one block of the hotel.
Personally my only complaint is that the computer in the lobby was out
of order too much. I suppose I could complain a bit about the bed not being
smooth, but then neither are those of friends and family whom I visit. Those who
have trouble with stairs should avoid this hotel unless they can be assured that
they will have a room on the first floor; however, they must keep in mind that
you mush walk up a half flight of stairs from the street level to reach the
lobby. The rooms are not spacious, but you are not paying spacious prices.
This hotel is a good deal and I will be staying there again.

Centrally located in West End, near Davie, Denman and Stanley Park. City
Centre is walkable and nearby, but the Robson bus is right outside. Good
pricing and nice rooms, with a big dresser for longer stays.
Main Street, Commercial/Broadway and W. 4th are cooler streets to stay
on, but the familiar sometimes is best.
Great bar in the basement with a colorful cast of characters!
