Guest Review of the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel
Feb 23, 2011
My husband and I visited Vancouver for a week in September and stayed at
the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel due to it's proximity to everything
downtown (restaurants, shopping, spa, waterfront, night life, etc.). We
booked a standard type room and upon check-in were given a upgrade to a
one bedroom suite on the Concierge floor which was wonderful.
The suite was lovely with views of beautiful Vancouver harbour front and
Robson Street. The suite was spacious and very well maintained, the
decor was modern and fresh looking and very welcoming. The lobby of the
property is lovely, the Concierge level had appetizers each evening and
breakfast in the am inclusive which, saved us money and was located on a
high floor (22nd) with lovely views. There was the biggest seagull I
have ever seen in my life hanging each morning on the side of the patio
to great us on the concierge floor which, was funny .
The service at the Front Desk was amazing, the young lady that checked
us in got our a map and circled everywhere she recommend we go
experience and tourist traps that are rather a waste of our time. We
took her up on every suggestion and were not disappointed in the least.
Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Vancouver Aquarium, Stanley Park,
Granville Island, whale watching adventures from Steveston (drove us all
the way to Victoria on a search for the best photo ops), Rogue
restaurant a 2 minute walk from the hotel (get the lobster mac and
cheese, amazing!), Robson Street, Yaletown, etc. She also recommended a
restaurant which we really enjoyed at Granville Island along with the
market there.
We were recommended by a Front Desk agent the night after a hoity toity
restaurant on the Harbour Front called Aqua which, had great views but
not so great service or food and was very expensive. The Front Desk
gentleman that sent us there did have an appetizer sent to us
compliments of him but I wouldn't return to the restaurant. If we pay
$250.00+ we expect amazing food, great service and great atmosphere.
The hotel didn't have a pool or Jacuzzi which, would have been icing on
the cake but it was lovely none the less and the service, service
efforts were wonderful. The last night we were there we ate in the
lounge area and although the server wasn't very hospitable the food was
amazing and made up for it. When checking out our final day we had a few
hours to kill before our departure and the Front Desk stored our luggage
which, was appreciated.
We did not have a vehicle rental or vehicle when staying at this
property but we really didn't need one seeing as the location was great,
many tours we booked had hotel pick-up and the light rail transit system
was one block from the hotel. We took the LRT to and from the airport
with ease and costing about $16.00 there and return, much less than a
taxi and the views we seen along the route were lovely.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

Good was great one day, adequate the next. Staff was friendly
throughout, especially in the dining room. Parking was atrociously
expensive and not attached directly to the hotel which was very
inconvenient. Even though we paid for a room with Internet Access, the
room only had hardwired internet and the free WIFI was only available in
the lobby.

I was lucky in that I got a great price via Priceline and that was the
only thing that made this stay OK.
The rooms are spacious with 2 x TV's, one in the lounge and another in
the Bedroom. The Bar Fridge did not work (it was empty), so I asked for
another one and was given one within 30 minutes.
I don't like the bathroom, it looks old and dingy, without us even using
the toilet, it was blocked and we had to call maintenance. i was not too
happy.
Wireless is non-existent other that an Ethernet Cable, which at $14.95 +
Tax was expensive. There is complimentary Wireless in the Lobby, but
nothing in the rooms we were int. We were told that if we paid an extra
$25 per night we could get free wi-fi in a room in a higher level. In
hind sight we should have done this.
We also had someone trying to kick down a door at 6:30am one of the 2
mornings we were there, once again, not happy !!!
Location is excellent however, right in the heart of down-town Vancouver

I booked this hotel after much researching on here; decided it would be
the perfect fit for our Canuck Weekend. Close to
Gastown (one block away), easy
walk to the Vancouver
Canucks game and only 2 blocks from the water. My husband and 2
boys, ages 7 and 10 arrived to meet very friendly staff. But right off
the bat, we had to park our car in underground 'secured' parking across
the alley in a public parking space. Really....anyone could walk in
there and take a look around; it wasn't closed off to hotel guests only.
Then we got up to our room on the 11th floor. It is strange. You zig zag
yourself in. It's pretty dark due to it not being a nice open space. The
bedroom with two doubles is separate; but you look out the window into
what could be a nice courtyard but rather is just four buildings backing
onto each other; two of which are very run down and old. Very dreary.
But in saying that; the beds and pillows were quite comfortable and
clean. They passed my cleanliness test for sure.
There was another area that overlooked West Hastings (5th block) That
room had nice light; but you're too low to get a view of anything. Has
two chairs, tv and a desk. No wireless internet down this low....you had
to pay a fair bit extra to have a 'nicer' room with wireless.
After the Canuck game on Friday night we began walking back to our
hotel; sketchy, sketchy. Don't do it with kids. It even made me nervous.
Alot of rif raf was out and about. I thought being down farther on West
Hastings we would avoid that; but not at all; it was sketchy right up
until the 4th block. Too close for my comfort. If you do stay; take the
Skytrain, because there was an entrance
across the street on Seymour that would take you right to the gate at
Rogers Arena. ( we found
that out the next day!)
You are close to the water, close to gas town; but we definitely missed
the good upscale nighttime feeling of Burrard and Robson area. We will
definitely be booking at
Sutton Place next time we go again. Stayed there last time;
and it was the perfect location.
