Review of the Executive Hotel Vintage Park Vancouver
May 8, 2011
I stayed at the Executive for two nights while in Vancouver during May
2011 to break up my trip to Toronto after a long leg from Australia
In general, this is a good hotel. I found it to be clean, comfortable,
in a good location (easy walk to downtown) and friendly staff. The hotel
overall is a little dated but the rooms themselves I found to be up to
date and very clean.
There were only two things I could find fault with. Firstly, the air
conditioning in the room was very loud when it cut in and cut out
throughout the night to keep the room warm. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper,
and it was enough to wake me each time it kicked in.
Finally, the big drawcard for me was that this was a wine themed hotel.
Being a big fan of wine (and living near the Barossa Valley) I was keen
to embed myself into a hotel which advertised itself as being themed in
this way. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. yes, there were
ceratinly large quotes around the foyer about wine and yes there was a
picture in my room of a bottle of wine, but that was about it as far as
I could see.
I attended one of the 'complimentary wine tasting and reception'
sessions in the restaurant, because I was genuinely interested in
learning more about Canadian wine and the Canadian wine industry, and
expected that there would have been a small selection of wines (from the
featured winery) on offer with perhaps a cellar door staff member or one
of the hotels staff to explain a little more about the wines on offer.
What I did experience was a number of people (mainly alone) sitting at
individual tables in the small bar area drinking the half a glass of
complimentary 'merlot' that was the wine of the day. The staff member
asked me if I was there for the wine tasting, told me that the merlot
was the wine of the day, poured me a glass and I then found my own table
and drank wine on my own! I asked the young lady about the wine and
other than telling me it was from a Canadian wine region not too far
away, I got not much more.
Don't get me wrong, I was not expecting a major wine event, but I did
want to make the point for any of you serious 'winies' who may be
thinking you'll stay simply for the wine theme, that it may not be as
good as you think
But if you are simply looking for a good, comfy, clean and safe hotel,
then the Executive should fit the bill

I booked this hotel through the BMO Vancouver Marathon "recommended
hotels" page. I'm not all that hard to please when it comes to a hotel
room. For a weekend like this, I don't expect anything fancy, as long as
it's clean. This room was not. We got to the room and decided to relax
on the bed for a bit before going out to dinner. When I got up I noticed
some hair on the bed, which I assumed was mine. Then I noticed a few
red/brown spots - not mine. I pulled back the sheets of the still made
bed and there was much more hair and several more spots. EW! Other
peoples' hair and stains? No thanks. As I was looking around the room I
opened the ice bucket and it was full of water. The sink also didn't
drain, but I'm sure that wasn't part of the cleaning problem.
We left for dinner and told the front desk about the unclean room on our
way out, they said they would have it cleaned. We came back to find a
complimentary bottle of wine, which was nice. The bucket that it came in
- a plastic bucket that chemicals were formerly stored in (the label was
still on it) - was a bit odd.
The rest of the stay was pleasant enough, although they did post a flyer
for a "BMO Vancouver Marathon Breakfast" starting at 6am. I asked if it
was complimentary and the front desk had to look up our reservation to
see if we qualified. Turned out to be $14 each and I asked them who it
was included for if not the people who had booked under the marathon
promotion. She said it was for people who booked through "other
websites". Odd...
All in all a mediocre experience. If it was all that was left on
marathon weekend there's a chance I might stay there again, but I'll
look for someplace else next time I'm in Vancouver.Review of the Executive Hotel Vintage Park Vancouver

I went up to Vancouver with my cousin and boyfriend last week for a
concert. This was our first time in Vancouver, and we had no idea where
anything was. The staff was very helpful answering our questions and
were very pleasant. Especially the guy at the front desk, Gus. He was
extremely helpful and nice! The only thing that I did not like about
this room were the beds. The double bed rooms aren't queen size beds.
They are full and it is kind of hard to sleep on with two people. Other
then that, everything was great!

GREAT FOR FAMILIES – GOOD HOTEL MANAGEMENT
We spent three nights in a two bedroom apartment. My Wife and I slept in
the master bedroom, one person had the other bedroom and a fourth person
had the sofa sleeper in the family room; three couples could share this
apartment. The apartment has a full kitchen with all the equipment that
you should ever need. Having a washer and drier meant that we were able
to head home with clean clothes; they even supplied detergent. Our
apartment had 1-1/2 bathes, so people did not have to come in through
our bedroom in the middle of the night to use the toilet. The breakfast
was hot and filling and they changed it a little each morning. The wine
reception in the evening was a nice touch. The very hot spa was a great
pleasure and we had some nice conversations with other guests. The
manager was very professional and understands how important customer
satisfaction really is.
Getting there
The hotel was easy to find on our way into Vancouver. I rehearsed my
approach using Street View
