Reviews La Grande Residence at The Sutton Place

I can see why people rave about the Sutton Place hotel: location is
amazing (just steps from world-class shopping), service impeccable, food
great. This review is for the longer-stay part of the hotel, La Grande
Residence, however and while we ultimately give it four stars, it is
really a 3.5 in our eyes. All of the aforementioned really go a long way
to making you almost overlook some of the shortcomings of the
apartments...almost. The suite we had was spacious, nicely decorated,
but the paint was peeling in the bathroom and baseboards, the cupboards
in both the bathroom and kitchen were terribly dated, and the carpet was
showing its age. The Sutton Place is also located close to a police
station or fire station because we heard sirens late at night for the
entire week of our stay. It blended into the background after the first
night though but it was still somewhat annoying. But still, despite
these flaws, you just can't help but love the place. From the moment you
step through the doors, they treat you like important people. The
service was beyond reproach, from the doorman to the concierge to the
room service staff. Excellent people and worth a return visit all by
itself. But add to that the great food from the restaurant and room
service, the well-equipped gym and very nice swimming pool area, to the
awesome location, La Grande Residence is a nice place for an extended
visit in Vancouver. In summary: good room size (one bedroom queen suite,
7th floor), great service, great amenities, great food, awesome
location; drawbacks: peeling paint, worn carpet, dated cupboards. 3.5
out of 5.

We have just returned from spending our Christmas holiday at the hotel.
While there were many great things about the hotel, there are few places
that could use improvement.
The good:
1. Great location. Very convenient. Can walk to many places.
2. Fleuri Restaurant in the lobby had good food at fairly reasonable
prices.
3. The lobby looked great. Lovely Christmas decorations/trees. Marble
was nice. Very well-kept.
4. Suites were large. The living area, kitchen, dining area and separate
bedroom were appreciated.
5. Flat screen TVs were good.
6. We had free internet with our room. While this should be included
nowadays, we liked having free access.
7. Pool was decent.
8. Staff was very helpful and polite. Promptly delivered extra blankets,
etc.
9. Gym was clean, well maintained and had a great selection of
equipment. One of the best hotel gyms that I have ever seen.
The bad:
1. Not a great view from our room.
2. Noisy in the evenings from traffic below. Hard to sleep.
3. Bathroom was very small.
4. Room decor was dated and a bit dark. It could definitely use some
refurbishing.
5. Hot tub was a bit mucky. It could use a good cleaning.
6. At $40 per night, parking was too expensive.
Overall, I feel that the hotel lobby, etc. was a 4.5 star, while the
rooms themselves were a 3.5. That being said, I would stay here again.
The good outweighs the bad!

Good family hotel
We traveled with our two children (9 and 8) and were very comfortable
with the one bedroom condo we booked. The full kitchen was a nice
feature that we took advantage of. We were in need of a baking sheet so
we called guest services and they said they would bring one right up.
About 30-45 minutes went by before we called them again and their
response was they forgot. The TV screen in the bedroom was very small
and could use an upgrade. Would stay here again only if traveling with
the kids otherwise I would find a nicer hotel.

A highly recommended hotel to stay in for an enjoyable holiday
If I ever have to go back to Vancouver, this hotel will be my only
choice. Location is perfect, walking distance to many attractions in
Vancouver, Robson
Street, Canada
Place , shopping malls, tourists buses....etc. The hotel has all the
facilities you need for an enjoyable holiday. Anything you want, just
ask them. The concierge arranged to book a trip for me to Victoria city,
all I had to do was just ask. I could also print my boarding pass for my
flight from the business centre for free. The hotel also has a mini
market where you can buy all the necessities including coffee. The only
thing I would recommend the hotel to reconsider is giving free internet
access, then I would rate the hotel as OUTSTANDING.
Area recommendations
Vancouver is a beautiful city to visit. There are many places you should
visit like
Capilano Suspension Bridge,
Stanley Park,
Robson Street,
Canada Place
Granville Island
, Victoria on Vancouver island,
shopping centers, and many other places you can't miss. Just take the
tour bus and go around, you'll love it.
When to go
Jun and July are the best times to go. It's still cold at these times
but beautiful...
