This is a stunningly beautiful hotel. Our room was on the 28th floor
facing the water. We could see the mountains, the float planes and a
park. Sounds idyllic, right? Well, almost. This Marriott had the hardest
bed I have ever slept on at a Marriott. I have booked Marriott hotels
many times because of their usually good quality comfortable beds. This
Marriott's bed was so uncomfortable that I slept poorly and woke up with
sore back, shoulders and hips. I mentioned it to the desk clerk when she
asked how our sleep was. She apologized but offered nothing. I was tired
and glad I had only booked one night there and I didn't feel like
bargaining with them for money off the bill or a discount on a future
stay. I will probably not book another Marriott except as a last resort
at this point because my last hotel stay was bad and was also at a
Marriott affiliate (Renaissance, filthy room).

I arrived at the hotel just after 8 am for a conference. I asked if I
could leave my suitcase at the front desk until check-in time, and was
surprised that they gave me a room right away instead. The room was
lovely with a large patio, very comfortable bed with reading lights,
very good work station and excellent TV and A/V setup. The gym
facilities are excellent. All of the staff, from the bellhops to the
concierge, are extremely friendly and helpful. I had a great breakfast
in the hotel restaurant. I look forward to my next stay!

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times over the last few years - not
because I love it, but because I'm working on my Marriott rewards.
The hotel itself is standard Marriott, but value for money it is not.
For a CAA rate of $179/night you get a smallish room with comfortable
beds and a good sized bathroom. The heating/cooling unit is
barbaric...it roars to life periodically through the night and is very
disruptive.
-On the one full day that we were there we were out of the room from 9am
to 1.30pm and when we got back it still hadn't been made up. Not good
enough - I had to go downstairs and get reception to chase up
housekeeping..
-The concierge room for complimentary breakfast etc is not available
over the weekend which is ridiculous.
-The restaurant is over-priced and we waited almost an hour for a
straightforward breakfast for 3 people. The pleasant wait staff was
apologetic but it was annoying.
-parking is expensive.
I want to like this hotel and make it my base when I'm in Vancouver but
the disadvantages as outlined above, outweigh the advantages (which are
basically location and loyalty rewards) so I think I will try somewhere
else next time.
On a positive note the doormen/valet parking guys are very good -
friendly and helpful.

Even though my last stay at this Marriott Hotel was less than something
to be desired, this stay was met with noticeable improvements in the
staff attitudes, which in turn made my stay bearably pleasant.
Contrary to my last visit, on this visit I was provided with a quiet
room that was specific to my Marriott profile, without having to remind
the front desk of what my preferences were. This slight adherence by the
hotel staff to Marriott's own operating procedures/policies n guest
services is all that it took to make my stay so much more enjoyable than
before.
One issue that this Marriott Hotel has is that it doesn't provide free
internet services or Wi-Fi. Instead you have hotel guest huddled
together in the lobby area with their lap-tops opened so that they can
access the free Wi-Fi that is available there. Not very convenient for
someone who travels a great deal and doesn't want to pay the $13 /day
that the hotel charges for in-room internet services.

I've stayed a few times in this property as it's close to one of my
offices and it's a hit and miss with this hotel. They have some nice
rooms, with floor to celling windows, which is a nice bonus. They also
have mediocre, smallish rooms, which offer very little in a way of
experience and fall short of multiple competitors in the immediate
vicinity. What I find particularly not impressive is the $16 a day
charge for the Internet; lack of wireless Internet (you have to use a
LAN cable, with an old twisted cable which kicks you off every time you
move your laptop), and a very loud air con/heating system. A temporary
closure of their pool facility also contributed to the overall
not-so-satisfactory stay. With so much competition, particularly the
oh-so-elegant Fairmont Pacific Rim just down the street, I think this
property needs to rethink how they are going to retain a loyal customer
base. Even the sister property across the street, the Renaissance,
offers more ambiance and value. I, for one, will be looking at other
properties for my next stay.

This Marriott is conveniently located to the waterfront, gorgeous views
of the Vancouver Skyline and near many good restaurants. I didn't care
much for their restaurant or bar ( boring menu, expensive and really no
atmosphere). Everything else was very good, front desk service, room
cleanliness, etc.
