Guest Review of the Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver

Being honest, I usually really like the Sandman downtown Vancouver
location. I have stayed there many times but after a very sub par stay
and many things that went wrong, I was promised a voucher to stay there
another night and all this time since early March I have only received
run around. That is not good customer service, yes?

I rated the overall hotel service a 3 for three main reasons: 1) The
elevators are ancient & small, and it took forever to get to and from
our room. The hotel was quite full, so at any given time there were many
people waiting for elevators, and not a lot could fit on one
. 2) The
service in the restaurant left something to be desired. The food was
good, but when I have to wait until someone else leaves before I can be
seated because there is only one server, something is wrong. Do they not
staff for the number of guests for whom they have reservations? 3) No
hair dryer! I thought all hotels had hair dryers these days?!? I can't
tell you how many women at my seminar came from that hotel with wet
hair, as they were obviously under the same impression as me. Overall,
it was a good experience. The room was clean & everything worked.
Unfortunately, we were placed right across from the elevator so it was a
little noisy.

Nothing fancy
pros: super convenient location to Queen Elizabeth Theatre and
Chinatown-Stadium
Street Skytrain Station. Very helpful front desk staff. cons:
construction in hotel lobby was not advertised, but there was no
construction noise. Pool was freezing and hot tub out of order. No
closet in room ... I've never seen that before!

There was an extremely long line waiting to check in. It stretched
across the lobby and down the hall past the elevators. I spent almost
hour in the line before being able to check in. There was a hockey game
that night and the hotel management should have anticipated this rush
but apparently not. Otherwise everything about the room was good,
although we could have done without the drunken hockey fans shouting in
the hallway at about 2:30 in the morning.
Area recommendations
Downtown has a wide variety of shopping opportunities on
Robson Street and
in the Pacific Mall. The hotel is close to
BC Place,
Rogers Arena , the
Queen Elizabeth
Theatre, and the Edgewater
Casino .

Our room (queen-sized bed) was about 12x12 with a 6x12 bathroom. No
closet and no place to hang things up. OK for 1, but crowded for 2.
The lobby was undergoing renovations.
Otherwise, the location, service, and room were all very good.
