Guest Reviews of the Shangri La Hotel Vancouver

I stayed here for 5 nights on a hybrid leisure & business trip, and we
both thought the experience was wonderful. The hotel itself is typical
Shangri-La in look & feel, meaning, it is a beautiful, unfussy, simply
decorated, quiet and welcoming retreat with gracious staff members
always aiming to please. The lobby is split into 2 floors, lower lobby
for reception & transportation, the upper lobby on street level for
concierge & meet-n-greet.
It the perfect vibe for those that are looking for an understated,
elegant, private getaway; for those that don't want that uber hip,
trendy, club-like atmosphere; and for those that have no care about
being in the center of a hustle-bustle, conspicuous, see & be seen lobby
(such as the Fairmont Pacific Place). No doubt celebs stay here, but you
get the sense that the Shangri-La is all about discretion and focusing
on nothing but an excellent guest experience.
The hallways are this gorgeous, dark floor-to-ceiling wood (zebrawood or
rosewood?), and the rooms themselves have lovely floor-to-ceiling marble
in the bathroom, amazingly comfortable beds, and high-class but simple
appointments throughout. We got a room with a huge balcony, which was
too cold to use, but provided great city views onto Alberni street.
Every staff member was A+, from Adrian (concierge) to Christine
(housekeeping) to Jay (food & bev mgr). We are just regular John & Jane
Doe, but they made us feel like VIPs all the way. Hope to find an
affordable rate here the next time I'm up in Vancouver!

Was in town for a convention and they billet us at the Vancouver
Shangri-la. Was not excepting a having to beg for toiletries/amenities
at a 5 star hotel. Internet was super slow and I couldn't connect to our
office VPN.
No club lounge and breakfast at the cafe was slow and mediocre.
Hotel was in a great location, I give them up and they do have
comfortable beds it just some things are looking a little worn out and
threadbare. The pool changing room was dirty and I tried the Chi Spa
which I thought was grossly overpriced.

Wonderful location especially if you have young children. There is a
grocery store right next door that makes it convenient for getting milk
and yogurt for tots. There is also a cupcake store on Thurlow that is
half a block away that will surely please. The location is close to
Robson which makes sight seeing with a stroller very easy. I stayed at
this hotel 2 years ago and the service/hospitality is still impeccable.
My wife loved the marble bathroom with the massive tub and the TV in the
mirror. I ordered French toast again on my visit and it was not as good
as it was 2 years ago - seems food standards may have slipped (ordered
on a Sunday). I was also disappointed with the lounge appetizer menu as
there was not much to please a meat eater from the prairie (too much
rabbit food and raw fish on crackers etc.) My only quandary is why was
my bacon deep-fried (never deep-fry an Albertans bacon)?

We stayed here for a one day stop-over in Vancouver on the way back from
Whistler. The decor is modern, elegant and stylish, as one would expect,
and the service equally stylish and professional. Our room was superb, a
large twin, roomy, beautifully decorated and appointed, with a fabulous
bathroom. The beds were amazingly comfortable. For the price, I would
describe it as good value for money.
We had a serious health issue in the middle of the night (nothing to do
with the hotel) and they assisted us in the most caring manner, ensuring
throughout that we had everything we needed, and that we were not
troubled with extending bookings, late check outs etc., making us feel
we were truly in the hands of professionals. Sometimes when things go
wrong, you find out how good people really are and the staff at the
Shangri-La did not fail us.
A top-class and beautiful hotel with great staff at a sensible price -
can one ask for more?
