Guest Review of the Coast Plaza Hotel Vancouver
Mar 14, 2011
We have been to the Coast Plaza every year for the past six or seven, twice on
organized Thomas Cook tours and the rest of the time under our own steam.
We have always found the hotel clean and comfortable with spacious rooms.
The staff have always been friendly and attentive and nothing seems too much
trouble for those working the concierge.
The hotel is ideally located for English Bay,
Granville Island and
Stanley Park.
My wife and I have come to regard the Coast Plaza as part of our Vancouver
holiday.
A good word, too, for the Long Bar which is attached to the hotel.
It does some amazing food and drink deals during the week, such as 20 per cent
off everything on (I think) every Thursday.
The food is great and there's a deal on beer every night.
There's live music at at weekends. The staff are great and, as mere tourists,
we've always found the locals more than friendly.
A great hotel.

My wife and I stayed for 30 days in Feb and early March at the Coast Hotel
taking advantage of their long term stay program, which had, what we thought was
an excellent rate for Vancouver. This was actually more than a home away from
home experience. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. Our one
bedroom suite had a king sized bed, large living area and fully equipped
kitchen. Our view overlooked Stanley
Park and the mountains although we understand that the view on the other
side of the hotel of downtown Vancouver is equally impressive. There were guest
laundry facilities on the 26th floor as well as a pool, sauna and hot tub in the
basement. Hotel guests also had use of the attached fitness centre next door. On
the ground floor of the hotel complex was a No Frills grocery store, pharmacy
and a discount movie theatre. Guests also received a 30 % discount in the hotel
restaurant at night. The location of the hotel made it very conducive for
walking. Stanley Park is just 2 blocks from the hotel and we walked the park and
seawall often. The Stanley Park
Seawall along the marina at the north end of Denman Street had
excellent views of the mountains and took us all the way to
Canada Place . It is a
20 minute walk from the hotel to shopping at Pacific Centre in
Downtown Vancouver. When we
didn’t feel like walking or if it was raining (which it did occasionally, it is
Vancouver in winter after all) we took the bus. Transit service in Vancouver is
excellent and a discount ticket package was available across the street at 7
Eleven. This location had an endless array of good affordable restaurants to
choose from. As an example there are restaurants specializing in Japanese,
Mexican, Thai, African, Italian, Greek, Ukrainian and Korean cuisine as well as
pizza and burger places. We were seduced in dining out much more than we planned
because of the great selection and competitive pricing. The hotel had a great
Prime Rib buffet on the weekend and a delicious Indian buffet one night a week.
We also enjoyed live music in the lounge one night. Our original intention was
to get away from the cold in Manitoba but our stay at this hotel exceeded
expectations.
Guest Review of the Coast Plaza Hotel Vancouver

We stayed at the Coast Plaza Hotel for two nights in March 2011. We were looking
for a hotel within walking distance of some of
Vancouver's Parks and Beaches, as
we didn't want to bring a car. The Coast Hotel's location is ideal - the beaches
of English Bay are minutes away, and the restaurants of Denman and
Robson Street are also
within easy strolling distance. Buses that run downtown and to
Skytrain /
Canada Line are nearby, too. Perfect!
The hotel rooms themselves are spacious, and we were happy to have a fridge and
microwave. Things are a bit dated, but everything was clean and in working order
(the TV reception was a bit fuzzy, though). Unfortunately, the wi-fi network's
signal was weak and unusable in our room (1209), so we ended up at the
Starbuck's around the corner when we needed to go online.
We never saw nor heard anyone from the hotel staff after we checked in (which is
a good thing), so no problems there. I'm puzzled by the 'milk and cookies'
mentioned by a past reviewer, as I saw no sign of them during our visit. The
drugstore and grocery store in the attached mall were convenient, as was the
7-11 across the street.
This is a good hotel for people who plan to be out and about, and want to be
near some of Vancouver's highlights. |
