What makes this hotel stand out for me is its great location and consistently
great service. The hotel lobby, fitness area, pool and rooms are all very nice
but pretty standard for a hotel of this class. The location is the best as it is
close to the sea wall and also close to offices, shopping and restaurants. The
service is consistently very good and stands out. Overall my favorite hotel in
Vancouver.

We chose a harbour view room at this hotel for one night for the ease of
transfer to Whistler via Pacific Coach, who picks up at the hotel. Although the
older of the two Fairmont hotels at the Waterfront area, we could not fault it
for its excellent location and the brilliant staff. Sure, the decor may show a
bit of its 20-year history but the lobby was regal, the room was beautifully
appointed with the most comfortable beds, and they would fit 2 queen-size beds
in there for 2 adults and 2 children (ours were 13 and 10). We used the pool and
hot tub (heated and pleasant even with the freezing weather). We had a lovely
drink at the lobby bar, tended by a very knowledgeable and friendly bartender. I
would thoroughly recommend the buffet breakfast which came with our package. The
staff could not do enough for us, and our children felt very pampered with all
the attention. We had made-to-order pancakes in addition to the whole complement
of hot and cold breakfast items. Well done for making our stay so welcomed.

The hotel is at the Waterfront at Canada Place. I landed after a tiring long
haul cross continental flight and decided to take the cab to the hotel. Costs
about $35. On return I took the Canada line train back to airport. Cost $3.50.
The train station is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. So if you dont
have too much luggage take the train. Takes as much time and cost 1/10th.
Hotel lobby was nice, nothing great. Check in was smooth. I had a corner room at
the 21st floor that gave me views of both the city and the harbor. Room was
huge. Good size bathroom. The only small issue I would have would be lack of
eating option in the immediate vicinity but nothing is more than a 5 buck cab
ride away.
As I was an elite member got free internet which normally costs $13.95. The only
small tip I have is about the Wall Street Journal. Unless you tell them it gets
automatically dropped at your room door. They charge 5 bucks for a 2 buck paper.
Found this unnecessary. Remember to tell them not to give you the WSJ and you
are fine.
The room cost me $199++. Considering Vancouver waterfront this rate was not bad.
There is a brand new Fairmont 2 blocks from this one, Pacific Rim. Looked a lot
more modern. But was a lot more expensive also.
Overall if you get this hotel for 200 or less its surely worth it.

1person found this review helpful My wife and I stayed in Fairmont Waterfront
last Feb. for 4 nights because she attended a conference in the nearby
Convention Center. To start with, the location is EXCELLENT. a few steps away
from the convention center and if it's raining, there's a tunnel that connects
the hotel to Canada Place just across, which then has a connecting tunnel to the
Convention Center. Gastown and downtown are adjacent to the hotel, as well as
the Skytrain from Vancouver airport, which also has access from the lower ground
of the hotel. The sea bus is also nearby. There is also a very good food court
at the lower ground of the hotel.
Now on to the hotel itself. The staff, from the concierge to the front desk to
the housekeeping staff were very friendly and efficient. Kudos to the restaurant
staff. who aside from being efficient and friendly (and generous with the
blueberry pancakes!), were very attentive during breakfast.
The hotel room was all right, at par with other rooms from similarly classed
hotels in terms of amenities, but definitely bigger than the rooms in Pan
Pacific across the street (maybe even almost double the size), where other
delegates from the convention stayed. It was clean, cozy, and the bed was very
comfortable. We had a good harbor view. The bathroom was clean, and bigger than
what I saw in some of the photos posted by others. There was a mini-bar and
fridge in the room. Internet seemed to be a bit expensive though, but good thing
we enlisted in the President's club, so we were able to get it for free.
Never got a chance to try the pool or fitness club. Maybe next time.
As a whole, I strongly recommend this place. We had a very comfortable stay and
would definitely come back. |
