Review of the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel Vancouver

stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while visiting Vancouver. its pretty
dingy and is in desperate need of renovation. its also slightly out of
town however given Vancouver's amazing public transport this wasn't a
problem. rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. staff were helpful
with suggesting activities and told us what buses/skytrain to catch etc.
breakfast was pretty good too, although it is served in the bar room
which feels a bit seedy. i would try find somewhere else if i return to
Vancouver, unless the hotel has a 'make-over'!

Howard Johnson plaza is a great hotel, on the outskirts of downtown
Vancouver. For the fortnight it only cost us 600 GBP between the two of
us and is great value, with friendly service, excellent maid service and
friendly helpful staff.
It is only half an hour or so walk into the very heart of downtown
Vancouver but there is a bus service right to the door that will get you
there in ten minutes, or a 5 minute walk to the skytrain which can get
you to the waterfront in minutes.
All in all if i was coming back to Vancouver i would definitely come
here every time

I travelled with my mom and we were in a two-double bed room. The room
was run down, appeared unrenovated for decades. There was hardly room
enough to squeeze between the beds, carpets were stained, and
fingerprints all over the windows.
We actually had to leave before our first night because I could not
stand the immensely overpowering, cheap air freshener smell everywhere
in the halls and rooms. We tried to air out the room, but the smell was
making me feel physically sick.
Contrary to others' reviews, the staff was quite helpful and courteous.
We ended up staying at the Best Western Uptown (205 Kingsway), a short
two blocks away, for the SAME PRICE! It was a world of difference, and
the staff admitted they actually get alot of business from customers
leaving the HoJo to stay with them. The Best Western very, very clean,
had spacious rooms, a cute courtyard, and renovated rooms (granite
countertops in the bathroom). Most of all - no smells!!!

In being awarded some work for the Vancouver Olympics I required 8 rooms
for up to 6 weeks in advance of the games. I contacted the hotel and
received an enthusiastic and interested party on the other line. I was
given consideration for the number of rooms and length of stay. To help
determine whether we should use them I went and quietly stayed there for
a night. Not the newest, not the largest of rooms, but a clean,
functional room met me with a very comfortable bed. I had a great sleep
and found all of their staff helpful and pleasant to deal with. I would
definitely stay there again (and will when next back in Vancouver).

The service at this HoJo location was friendly and awesome. My wife and
I were travelling with an 18 month year old boy and we had several
special requests, which they took care of without any problems. Also, I
left my cell phone charger in the room after we had checked out. I
emailed the super friendly general manager, Lucia, and she found the
charger and sent it back to me free of charge. The downtown location of
this hotel was centrally located and close to almost all of the sites
that we wished to see.

This is a great place to stay if you want somewhere central downtown in
Vancouver. It is really good value for money compared to anywhere else
in the Granville area and the bar downstairs (Wings) has a vibrant
atmosphere with friendly staff and brilliant food/bar offers. We had a
room facing away from the front which meant you couldn't hear any of the
noise late at night, but the walls are thin so beware noisy neighbors!
Amenities are of a good standard, rooms are small but cozy and decor is
decent. Free WiFi throughout the building. Only problem we had was a
leaky air conditioning unit which meant a wet patch on the carpet -
housekeeping helped as much as they could and the staff offered us a
room change but we were settled so left a towel on the floor for the
couple of days we were there! Also worth noting you need a room card to
access the lifts so very secure. Overall no frills room but clean and
comfortable which is all we needed - can't complain for such a good
price.

I was returning from Puerto Vallarta Mexico and needed a place because
of a late flight. I chose the Hojo because of it's cheap price right
after the Winter Olympics $69 per night plus tax. It is a 15 minute walk
down Granville from the downtown Canada Line exit or same from Yaletown
exit. It was 130 am when I checked in and the hotel was quiet. The bed
was good and coffee shops are right across the street. If you are in
Vancouver for the nightlife it would be a great place as it is on
Granville. I will probably stay there again. Older building but well
kept up. Restaurant / bar on premise , no breakfast included.

The price drew me in. Clean, comfortable, in an older building. Parking
was available but the 2-way single lane ramp could be an issue on a busy
day. Free wireless internet but the lobby internet kiosk required
payment. Not fancy but overall not bad.

We stayed at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel. I have to say we were
looking for a cheap place to sleep and shower, not luxury and amenities,
so it fit the bill. The room was average and clean and very cheap. The
hotel is older . The only really bad thing about the Howard Johnson
Plaza Hotel is it has a funky smell (maybe disinfectant or air-freshener
?). There was also some noise from the room next door, but not enough to
complain, and I'm assuming it's safe since my brand new car wasn't
broken into or vandalized. You can get a really good deal by going to
this website and finding specials. If you're looking for cheap and
basic, this might be a good option.

I was very nervous about staying here after reading other reviews but the
location and price was too good so I gave it a go. Overall I had no problems
with the staff and found them to be pleasant and helpful at all times. The room
was average and dated (had a slight musty smell) but was clean and a decent
size. I stayed Sun - Weds so it was very quite as the downstairs bar closed
early. The location is fantastic and overall it was good basic accommodation if
your standards are not too high. The food in the bar is great. The main problem
was the elevator kept breaking which was a hassle taking suitcases up stairs,
also the street itself is a bit dodgy - nothing too scary but a bit unpleasant
at night if you are are a single female.
