Guest Review of the Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver

Yes my rate was cheap, but having the power and phone shut off in the
entire North Tower, with no notice to the guests, made showering in
complete darkness a hotel experience I will never forget. I went to the
front desk to complain, and they didn't seem to care, and said it must
have been the construction crews who were working on the hotel. Gee do
you think? I inquired and complained in the afternoon to the duty
manager, and he didn't know anything about it, and didn't offer one of
nights comped or any other resolution. I had to shave by the light of my
laptop. If you want a shower with lighting just go down to the leaking
parkade below the hotel.
Also important; Unless you like to stay in a frat house, with a kegger
party on every floor, don't stay here on a game night when the Canucks
or BC Lions are playing. The noise up and down the halls is brutal, and
is not attended to by the front desk or security very quickly, and they
are brutally slow at answering the phone. The restaurant/nightclub
attached to the hotel, is a dump. The rooms are small and you may feel
like you are staying in a shoebox, the hotel security is a joke, and
although It has keycard locks in the elevators, they are just there for
show and aren't needed. You have to pay to use the Gym, The movie
selection is limited and outdated. And the heater/ air conditioner
works, but judging by the wierd funk that comes from them, I doubt they
change the air filters very often
Cheap room yes, but the "decorum" you get from the place, and the not
stop rowdiness, makes this Hotel more like Animal House with a front
desk. And don't bother with Room Service, there are no menus in the
rooms, and the room service staff don't have time to tell you whats on
the menu.
Next Time I'm spending the dough, and getting a place somewhere else
with electricity.

We chose to stay here simply because of it's location...a 2minute walk
to Rogers Arena. There is a Moxie's Bar downstairs that is usually
packed before a game. Staff were very nice, and the parking is gated.
The fire alarm went off twice but seemed to be an accident. Check in and
out were quick and efficient. We would recommend this hotel to anyone
going to Vancouver, especially if you are going to a Canucks game, or
even a BC Lions game.

Stayed at the Sandman Downtown by Rogers Arena this past Friday, very
enjoyable trip. My wife and I went to Danko Jones concert for her
birthday at the Commodore, which was ok, but you can read about that in
another review. I enjoyed the location of the hotel in comparison to
everything that you can see and find near it. Only a short distance from
the venue and restaurants. Our room was a renovated room that came with
a King bed and couch. The room was very clean and welcoming. The lobby
was very beautiful with amazing art work and a brand new desk that was
being installed. My wife and I had a enjoyable stay, even for a 1 night
quick trip. Would definitely stay here again if in town for another
event or getaway.

The food was excellent with a spectacular presentation. I also liked
that it was within walking distance to everything we needed.
The long waits at the elevators was pretty much it.

info on parking. elevators were sporadic and display numbers in one
elevator were not correct. homeless person sleeping in upper parking
area. room #1118 had broken drawer handle, bubbles under wall paper,
edge of bathroom counter cut and unfinished. bed was higher in the
middle and unclean.

Great place to stay when you go to a hockey game!
Enjoyed the stay in the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room
was adequate and affordable. The hotel itself was clean and inviting.
The restaurant was very good Oh, be prepared to pay $20 to park in the
parking garage. Would recommend this hotel if you want a decent,
affordable place to stay when you are going to hockey games.

Very good for the price and convenience.
The check-in process was comfortable. There was some construction going
in at the hotel and even though I stayed a floor above it, there were no
disturbances whatsoever. The room was clean with everything in working
condition and as expected.
