If you are looking for a centrally located hotel at a reasonable price,
I would recommend Howard Johnson Hotel on Granville Street. Not only is
it easy to find, but it is central to shopping, eating and night life in
the upscale areas of Vancouver. It will definitely be a place we return
to in the future. If the night life is not your bag, ask for a room
towards the back of the hotel. Great coffee shops and restaurants close
to the hotel. There is easy parking and access to the city.

After booking our hotel room through hotwire at the Ramada on Granville,
we were shuttled across the street after the Ramada overbooked. The
Howard Johnson on Granville is a cheap place to sleep, but that's being
generous. Here's what I disliked about this place:
(1) the front counter woman was indifferent if not unfriendly; people in
this business need to learn to smile once every so often;
(2) small room on "first" floor (actually the second floor) was small
and claustrophobic and dark (time for a renovation)
(3) 14" TV? Really?
(4) no counter space in bathroom to speak of, unless the top of the
toilet counts
(5) no face clothes (wash clothes)
(6) filthy sink faucet
(7) loose shower head
(8) loose bathroom fan
(9) unidentified pink stuff stuck to bathroom wall
(10) course, stained and ripped bath towels (which are only slightly
larger than a hand towel)
(11) NOISY and SMELLY! First, the double-pained window is useless
because the air conditioner unit lets all the street noise in (yes, you
can hear drunken girls fighting in the streets!) as well as letting in
the putrid smell of the pub's kitchen
(12) NOISY. Second, it's one floor up from a nightclub called Barcelona.
Did I mention that you can hear all sorts of tomfoolery outside until
well after 2 AM, along with the pounding bass.
So, all in all, if you bring earplugs, nose plugs, your own bath towels,
and a good dose of patience, this place might do the trick. Me? I'll
never go back.

My mom, young daughter and me stay at the Howard Johnson in downtown,
the location is great, close to everything, perfect a weekend get away.
The atmosphere was great, lot of people around, staff super friendly,
and the rooms were decent.
I was a little disappointment with the fact is pay parking, but compare
with other hotels around the area with parking included still cheaper to
stay at this hotel.
Other than that we recommend this hotel.

I stayed 5 nights at HOJO downtown, when I was in Vancouver for a
conference. I have nothing to complain about.
Overall, I had a pleasant stay here.

if you are under thirty then this hotel may suit you the bar area is
noisy with loud music and lots of youngsters having a good time , The
hotel is drab with a musty odour about it ,The room we had was small and
dark not very inviting it took approximately ten minutes for the water
to heat up for a wash shower e,t,c and the face flannel consisted of a
piece of linen to put your hand in air con i would say was out of date
very noisy , The hotel seemed to be frequented by some unsavoury
characters who had easy access to the lifts although they were key card
operated, Walking down Granville street to the hotel you had to walk a
gauntlet of tramps ,beggers and others which was extremely intimidating
.As regards Vancouver it has a lot to offer and we will be back but
certainly not to the Howard Johnston hotel

My brother and I recently traveled to Vancouver on our annual trip to
the Big City. Every year we drive down to Vancouver from Kelowna for a
little shopping and nightlife on the Labour Day weekend. We usually stay
at the Ramada on Granville Street but last year on the same trip we
noticed the Howard Johnson hotel was in full Reno mode and the place
looked really nice. So this year we decided to to change hotels and try
the HOJO across the street. We made the right choice, the new decor and
remodelling have a super trendy feel not to mention the new and very hip
"Barcelona Nightclub" right next store. There is a restaurant called
"Wings" right in the hotel and between the two we had our meals and
nightlife covered. Although we were only across the street from our
usual hotel of choice the whole experience seemed somehow much better.
The staff were super friendly and pointed us to some great shopping
spots we had never seen before only blocks away from the hotel. Looks
like we found our new favorite Hotel on the Granville Strip and we look
forward to next years repeat of a terrific few days. I booked the hotel
through www.allure-hotels.com

Me and my family stayed at this hotel at the end of August. Visiting
from Kelowna with our young children we spent few nights there and
visited PNE . We really liked the location, parking was limited, but it
was not a problem during the week, I guess it is different story during
the weekend. I remember making a reservation and being told specifically
about the parking charge and the fact that they don't have enough spots.
Rooms are very lovely, a bit on a smaller side, but decor was bright and
cheerful. Needless to say, we did not spent much time there anyways.
Noise was not a problem either. Thank you, we will be back next summer!
