Guest Reviews of the Best Western Downtown Vancouver

Located in down town and walking distance to the Sky train station. This is the
reason why I booked this hotel. I arrived at the hotel around 3 O'clock in the
afternoon of Wednesday but to my surprise I faced many drunkers on the street
near by the Hotel.
I just did not feel ease fot it. Breakfast is only supplied from 7 O'clock even
on week day.
I missed it to catch my 9 am flight. Why not from 6:30 like many other hotels?

We stayed at this hotel twice in June 2011, once for a stopover, once for a few
days. Its price and location make it a good pick as long as you are aware of a
few glitches.
They've got the hotel essentials down. The rooms are clean, reasonably large,
the beds are good, there's free Wifi, a slightly noisy ac and the shower is nice
and hot. The have a laundry room (2 washers, 2 driers), not the cleanest but
still good to have. Also, the location means you can essentially walk anywhere
in Downtown, and in 5 minutes you're at the waterfront to catch the aquabus over
to Granville Island.
Plus, between 7 am and pm, they have a shuttle bus that drops you off at a
downtown location of your choice. If you manage to book it, which hints at the
main issue: The service is rather hit- and-miss. Everyone is eager and friendly
enough, there just doesn't seem to be any communication between the coworkers
and there is a permanent rotation of staff - we hardly saw anyone twice, and the
quality of information and reliability of arrangements reminded us of staying at
the kind of hostel where staff are a mix of a few regulars and a few versoins of
"that dude who just arrived from New Zealand".
Here's an example: The night before we left we arranged with front desk to get a
late checkout at 1 pm. When we woke up, we thought we'd better confirm - called
the front desk, who didn't know, but said it was okay. Around 11, housekeeping
called to inquire when we would be leaving (we told them about our 1 pm late
checkout), and at 12.40, the front desk called again, asking when we were
leaving as they had heard from housekeeping we'd be gone by noon. We mentioned
this to yet another front-desk attendant when we checked out, saying we'd felt
like they were hinting for us to get going. She very politely apologized,
checked her computer and confirmed the late check-out had been noted there all
the time.
Bottom line: Go ahead and book, it's still good value for money. Just better
double check on any arrangements you make through staff, or you may find
yourself coming downstairs to go somewhere in the shuttle you booked and find it
has left early and without you.

This hotel has nice rooms, a great gym, a whirlpool tub, saunas and, best of
all, a free shuttle to downtown every half hour. We used the shuttle to visit
Chinatown and even to lug our bags to the cruise ship dock, saving a ton on
taxis. It's on a creepy block but it's very close to several great
neighborhoods, pluses buses and trains.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights before our cruise to Alaska. There were
four of us in our travelling party. Me, my mother and my two teenage boys.
This is a lovely hotel with one small problem. Location! Unfortunately for the
hotel the area around it has deteriorated. The neighborhood sucks!
We choose this hotel due to it's proximity to Canada Place and because they have
a free shuttle to Canada Place.
There were a lot of good things about this hotel so let me get to them.
We had a large, clean room. A large TV, but the picture quality wasn' that
great. The remote didn't work. It needed new batteries. This was quickly
resolved with a quick trip down to the front desk. There was a fridge, microwave
and coffe maker in the room. The beds were comfortable. The shower was nice, and
the water got warm quickly. The water pressure was just so-so. The shampoo that
the hotel provides sucked. It just doesn't lather up. Be sure to bring your own.
(There is a 7-11 across the street, we had to buy some).
The front desk help were very friendly and helpful. They gladly changed our US
$$ to Canadian $$. In fact all of thier staff were friendly and helpful.
Did I mention the location sucks!! There are lots of homeless people and street
types just out the front door of the hotel. I will say this, the hotel has lots
of security measures in place and I never felt unsafe while inside the hotel.
You need your room key to get the underground gated parking lot. Just be sure to
wait for the gate to close. You need your room key to use the elevator and to
get in the hotel from the street. Oh and parking is $15.00 a day.
Our first day we thought we'd go out for a walk and look for someplace to eat.
We didn't get far before my two teenage boys and mother were creeped out by all
the panhandlers and homeless people on the street and they were asking to go
back to the hotel. We did see a Subway but none of us felt comfortable to stop
and eat there. We ended up ordering pizza.
The next morning we discovered the White Spot restaurant connected to the hotel
(duh!). We had breakfast and dinner here. Good food, but a little on the
expensive side.
If you decide to drive downtown to look for food, beware...Street parking is all
but non-existent and when/if you do find a spot the parking meter rates are
insane.
It's a shame the area around the hotel is so bad. This is a lovely hotel but I'm
not sure I'd stay here again. |
