July 6, 2011 We stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and thought it was OK (probably because I had been staying 2 stars hotel then and now I have been staying 3 stars hotels, and that's why I have to write this review :)) For some reason we have to stay in Vancouver today expecting ok = normal 3 stars hotel. When we see the hotel today, I was surprised why I thought the hotel was actually "OK". The elevator is super worn and torn. The ceiling was broken, and the water was dripping right outside the first room we stayed and the room smell weird. When I re-checked if I booked the right hotel again, I saw brilliant pictures of the hotel, looked like a 3.5 stars+ (that's why photographer got high paid). But the reality looks nothing like what it is on the pictures. So I immediately called the front desk and the very helpful and friendly staff was willing to upgrade me to the "contemporary" room from the "classic" room with no charge. The new room is not that much different, but at least they have seemingly cleaner carpet. I'm not sure if I have different feeling from 2 years ago is because I have been staying in 3 stars hotels recently, but no matter what, this hotel should in no way be getting 9 out of 10 rating, right? Guest Review of the Cassandra Hotel July 5, 2011 The hotel is on a great family neighborhood location but yet very convenient for transportation and there are variety of Restaurants, market and shop and liquor store. lol. I was in the process of moving so I actually stay at the hotel for quiet long. They have great price for monthly plan which is worked out for me and my family. I think the best things I like about the hotel have to be their employees. The front agents are not only friendly but the most out going people I would know. The housekeeper did an excellent job on my room every week so i have nothing to complain about them.... I was laughing when i was reading some of the reviews. Changing and renovation mean they want to improve. They do have an elevator by the way.... which show "how believable some of the review could be" Guest Review of the Cassandra Hotel July 5, 2011 Good place to stay. Location is great. The front desk was very friendly & helpful. Especially Nicky & Jenny. They help us find the best place to visit in the city. They even took the time to get my girlfriend a little something for her birthday. We`re definitely coming back to stay here. Thank you very much. Guest Review of the Cassandra Hotel July 1, 2011 I m not sure why there were so many bad reviews earlier for this hotel but I like it. I m not expecting to stay in a 5 star hotel by paying less than $100 for a night in summer. Our room got nice mountain view. We went for some restaurants close to this hotel. There r many options. Overall impression is not that bad. We like Vancouver and we will definitely come to Vancouver again next year! Guest Review of the Cassandra Hotel June 9, 2011 This place has an attractive list of amenities and nice-looking photos, and so when we saw how cheap it was, we thought it must be due to the neighborhood it's in. Well, the neighborhood is indeed not a good one, but I would say that given how crappy the hotel actually was, we should have been paying even less than we did. Yes, they do have some nice amenities (microwave and WiFi, etc.), but they get their money back by doing things like not carpeting under your bed (it was just bare concrete), stowing junk in the parking area, using IKEA lamps as the only nod to modern decor, not re-caulking over the moldy grout in the shower, and not bothering to air out the rooms. And the mattress and pillow really were *incredibly* uncomfortable--saggy, lumpy, you name it. I'm not a person with high expectations in the mattress/pillow department, but having to pay for that level of discomfort was insulting.
