The name, "Chateau Granville," may give you the impression that you are staying
at a luxury five-star hotel. Nope. This is a typical Best Western economy hotel.
The location and service during my visit was adequate and the adjoining
restaurant, "The Edge," offered a tasty dinner. My biggest complaint was being
assigned to the "courtyard" building. To get into the building, you have to
leave the lobby, cross a scary, poorly lit alley and then open a security door
into the courtyard. Ugh. If you get mugged in the ally, at least you are only
steps from your room. Secondly, my room had a strange emergency exit door that
was situated about two feet off of the floor and opened onto an enclosed fire
escape. Weird.

This hotel was in a good location. Didn’t like the room in the back of the
courtyard. Just like a dungeon and smelled musty. The front room with large
windows was much better. Would be better if the courtyard was connected to the
main lobby by some sort of tunnel. Staff were very helpful. Would be more
specific about room location next time. Would certainly consider staying there
again.
By all means take the Skytrain from the airport to downtown. It only takes 25
minutes. The subway stations are very clean and staff are very helpful.

This hotel offers two options: bigger rooms in the high rise, or smaller rooms
located in a nearby area called the '"courtyard." To enter the courtyard, you
must walk across an alley and pass through a heavy, solid, steel door that
resembles an entry to Cellblock "C". Surprise! There is a courtyard, and the
rooms there are small but impeccably clean and nicely decorated. Courtyard room
rates are a bargain considering you're in downtown Vancouver. But this area of
Vancouver on Granville is a bit on the seedy side. If porn shops rub you the
wrong way, this isn't the area for you. Less important, however, is this tidbit.
Despite our cheerful hello, the middle-aged man who worked the front desk that
rainy evening was aloof, avoided eye contact and spoke to us in curt, one word
responses. If front desk staff can't be cordial or polite, at least be civil -
or get out of the hospitality business.

My parents and I spent 4 nights in the 1 bedroom suit in the main tower. The
room was clean and large, the decor slightly tired looking, had ample
closet/cupboard and drawer space, 2 tvs, a fridge and microwave. No problems
with the electronics/appliances/hot water. Can not comment on the wireless
internet, as we did not use this feature. The sitting/living room had a couch
that pulled out to a bed, (not too comfy to sleep on), a desk and 2 chairs. No
complaints from my parents who slept on the beds in the bedroom.
Our balcony opened up to a very large, landscaped terrace, but if you walked to
the other end of it, you would also walk by all the other rooms that opened onto
this space. IMO, a few chairs here would have been nice. Our view consisted of
some high-rises, some other old/tired looking buildings that could use
sprucing-up and the roof of the building next door, which had a noisy, buzzing
generator of some kind. This buzzing noise wasn't noticeable from inside the
room. In fact, the room was fairly quiet, but every now and then, you could hear
some of the loud, raucous party-goers that ventured off of Granville street and
into the back ally, just below our room.
The rate that we paid for the hotel included secure, underground parking and
breakfast. I was expecting a breakfast buffet, but we were given vouchers that
entitled us to 2 scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, orange juice and coffee.
We're not big eaters, so the portion size more than filled us up. I also
wouldn't hesitate to order from the menu, as it had a good variety of items at a
reasonable price. In fact, this may be the better option if you are staying for
an extended period of time and do not care to be eating the same thing every
morning.
The front desk staff did not acknowledge nor greet us any of the times that we
walked through the lobby, but were friendly and helpful upon check-in/out and
when approached with questions.
Granville St. as well as Robson, were always abuzz with people from all walks of
life. From the elegantly dressed, to the unfortunate homeless: and everything in
between. On the Friday and Saturday evening, Granville street came alive with
the late night party/club scene. Part of the street was closed to vehicles and
had a number of police and other security present. I questioned this and was
told that the increased security and lack of vehicles helped decrease the
undesirable behavior after the bars closed.
We ventured out at different times of the day and night, (although not very
late), with security present and without, but never did we feel threatened, nor
unsafe.
So, if you are the type of traveler or business-person, that is looking for a
deal, that doesn't mind a room that could use some up-dating in the decor, or a
few stains on the carpet this may be the place for you. If you insist on huge,
fancy lobbies decked out in marble and expensive tile, surrounded by the likes
of Louis Vuitton and Gucci, you might not be happy here.

I stayed at this hotel with 3 friends sharing a family room which cost around
$149 per night which was brilliant value for money. The rooms were clean, we had
a small kitchen with microwave and fridge as well as a lovely sitting room with
cable TV. Granville road is the main through fare through Vancouver and is
currently being renovated for the Olympics in February 2010, having said that,
the noise level is as to be expected from any city centre location and didn't
bother us at all as it all quietens down at nighttime.
All in all, we had an excellent stay at the Granville and would stay again if we
ever go back to Vancouver. The location was brilliant and enabled us to walk all
around the city as well as to Granville island. Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

Very convenient location. The staff was all very helpful. Some locals said the
hotel had a bad rep for partiers, but it was very quiet for us. I wish they had
some form of breakfast that would start before 7am. We had two different rooms
for the 5 of us. We found the hotel to be very convenient, safe and clean. The
staff was very accommodating. We were able to store our luggage while
sightseeing in Whistler, before moving on to Victoria. We had to catch our
transportation to Whistler at 7am, so we were not able to eat breakfast at the
hotel before leaving. It would be great if they had even a light breakfast
available at 6 or 6:30.

"We generally enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We used it for the night before
our curies to Alaska and it definitely answered our needs. The hotel has a great
location ? need to just walk outside the hotel for shopping. The only minus was
that we had to walk to the back building (courtyard ) through a back street
which was a bit hassle (maybe this is the only location with 2 queen beds?).
Good service. " Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

When we arrived at the hotel it looked pretty nice, This hotel is clean enough -
but I definitely expected more for what I was paying. Basically you are paying
for the location, not the quality of the hotel. I definitely expected much more
from a Best Western. The Canada Line on the Sky Train now goes from the Airport
to a stop that is only a few blocks from the hotel. It saved us a ton of money
to take the train instead of a cab and it was really easy! Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

Some people mentioned about ’crossing’ the alley between the main building and
this little annexed building. But for me, it was close enough to get to my room,
and the security wasn’t an issue at all (you need to use the key card three
times before you can get into your room!). Overall I am very satisfied for the
price I paid.

We enjoyed this hotel. The room was spacious and we also had a private sitting
room. There was a TV in the bedroom and one also in the sitting room. For what
we got here, the price was very reasonable. They also have a good little
restaurant and a nice outdoor patio to eat. It was also easy to pick up the
trolley across the street from the hotel.

Keep in mind this is a Best Western so it's definitely not super fancy. That
said, me and my friend both enjoyed this hotel: great price, great location,
above average room. What else do you need?
We stayed at the Courtyard Hotel, which is behind the main tower across a
somewhat sketchy alleyway. The setting is secure and private and it's more like
staying at a studio apartment (I wish the room came with a fridge!). It's quiet,
clean and spacious so all in all, I would recommend this place.
When you book online you cannot tell where you will be staying (main tower vs
courtyard room) so you might want to call the hotel ahead of time and see if
that matters to you.

I chose this hotel because I was going to a concert in downtown Vancouver, and
wanted to be close. I also needed a suite, and the price of a suite was very
reasonable when compared with other hotels in town.
The hotel stay itself was fine. The room was very nice and clean, and staff were
friendly. I used the underground parking as well, and didn't experience any
problems.
The only issue really is that we were kept up very late by loud, drunken
individuals on the street going to and from the various bars, etc.
Had we been on a higher floor this may not have been as much of an issue.
If you are planning to stay on a Friday or Saturday night, it may be very noisy
due to the fact that you are right downtown surrounded by various clubs and
bars. So if you are wanting a quiet weekend, I would recommend a hotel further
away from the centre of the city.
Otherwise, no complaints about the hotel itself. Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

I have stayed at the courtyard room and liked an apartment setting. I liked the
place with a good atmosphere like a real garden. Although one must walk across
the back lane to the entrance of courtyard building, i didn't mind.
The location is very convenient and new restaurant just opened, and looks like
Granville street is a new street. I enjoyed the stay and also used local
discount for some shopping.
If I have a chance, I would like to stay there again.
I had a really good time. Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

The Chateau Granville was a very nice hotel for the money. As soon as I checked
in, the clerk upgraded my room before I could even comment (Why? I'm not sure,
but who's going to complain about a free upgrade.). The hotel staff was very
helpful and friendly.
After reading many reviews, we were nervous about the courtyard room we had
chosen. But after checking in we were pleasantly surprised. The room was very
spacious and clean. As well, the bed was the most comfortable bed we have seen
in a hotel in this price range. The only complaint with the room was that it did
not have a mini fridge, but we knew that prior to booking the room. We were
lucky enough to get a second floor room at the end of the building on the front
side, thus the room had four windows (including the bathroom window, which was
the largest bathroom window we've ever seen in a hotel).
The courtyard had a very comfortable atmosphere, similar to a townhouse
neighborhood. As well, it was very well lit so there was no fear of walking back
to the room at night, though the alley was not so well lit. But it was only
about 30 meters from the secured parking garage to the courtyard gate, so it
wasn't too much of a concern.
We were glad that we chose the courtyard over the main building, since although
we stayed in a hotel, it did not have that type of feeling to it. The hotel in
general was very well situated, as we were able to walk nearly anywhere in the
downtown area with ease. It was also well located for driving to farther sights.
We would definitely recommend the courtyard rooms to anyone and would stay there
again in the future.

The real thing worth mentioning is the hotel bar, located on the 2nd floor and
beautifully decorated. It's probably the classiest place for a quiet drink in
the downtown core, kept secret to the general public but open for business to
all. Providing an exquisite view of the protruding clusters of lit up condos and
bustling bar stars trolling for action, it's kind of feels like your at the zoo
observing the primates, only you have ample comfortable seating and you're
sipping a vodka martini. The room is cozy and ritzy, but keeps the prices trim,
and the bartender and servers are exceptionally friendly and seem to truly enjoy
the slow moving relaxed atmosphere.
Right on the strip, it's mixed in with the movie theaters, art galleries, and
other places suitable for a first date, which makes this casual hidden spot
ideal for follow up conversation over fancy drinks.

I always feel strange reviewing hotels as a person who visited a guest. Partly
because it makes me sound like a prostitute, but mostly because I can never know
their full services. That said I'll do my best with Chateau Granville as I have
with so many others before.
What this place really has going for it is its location. It is just a foot into
the sleazier end of Granville but still really in the heart of the
'entertainment district' so if you're interested in wandering home from a bar,
this is a great bet. It has some wonderful views from its top floor and, as
others have mentioned, a very nice bar as well.
Otherwise, not much makes it stand out from an old Best Western hotel. The rooms
are about the same and the amenities are about the same. I said old as well
because it's honestly a stones throw from the newer Best Western Downtown which
is closer to Davie st. If you're looking for a spic and span newer place because
old hotels give you the heebies, you might want to try there instead.
So yes, if you want a bed, close to bars and restaurants on Granville for a
pretty cheap price, this is a good place to head. You can do much better in
Vancouver hotel-wise but the location/price ratio with the Chateau Granville is
definitely one of the better you will find. Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the past ten years and have
always found the rooms to be clean and well stocked. The service has been
exceptional and the downtown location is great for business or pleasure. The
hotel staff are union employees who take great pride in doing a good job.

We were very surprised when we checked into the Courtyard King room despite
where the hotel was located. At first, we were not comfortable crossing the back
alley to the Courtyard entrance. However, after awhile, we thought this was
better than staying at the main building because of privacy of not going through
the lobby each time.
Courtyard room was very spacious and felt like home. Thought it was too
spacious. It was too bad that there was no elevator in Courtyard but the space
beside the Courtyard building gave a very peaceful feeling.
Coming back from our side trip, we stayed at the large one bedroom suite facing
the patio garden. It was very private and quiet.
Despite where the hotel is located, it was only a short walking distance to
Yaletown and the False Creek seawall. Also, the local discount being offered by
the hotel was very useful, especially the yoga class in Yaletown.
The underground parking space was tight between cars but after raising the
concern to the hotel staff, we were told that the hotel was fully booked.
Overall, staying at the hotel was a very good value for the money and we were
pretty happy about the rooms, both in the Courtyard and the main building. We
would definitely stay at the hotel in the future.

I was in the courtyard, which is separated from the main hotel, had no proper
window, but was appropriately priced. The road (Granville St) was undergoing
construction, so I wasn't missing too much of a view. Service was OK. Guest Reviews Best Western Chateau Granville

I stayed here for a concert. We did not rent a car, so this hotel was in an
ideal location to explore Vancouver. At arrival, we were booked into a
one-bedroom suite with a balcony overlooking downtown Vancouver- at no extra
charge! The view at night was astonishing, and the noise was at a minimum. The
room was very clean and had all of the amenities. Yes, Chateau Granville is
located in the heart of downtown Vancouver it is a diverse, lively, great city
that has people of every kind. My boyfriend and I walked around at all hours of
the night with no issues. I would recommend this hotel hands down for the
average joe looking for a decent price and a fantastic jump-off point for
exploring the city. Check out The Cambie Bar for a beer and some culture.

My wife and I stayed 31 nights at this hotel and found it perfect in every way.
All staff went out of their way to do all in their power to make our stay
pleasant at a very difficult time for us - my wife was having a kidney
transplant at St. Paul`s hospital, just three blocks away. I can`t thank
front-desk staff, concierge, restaurant and cleaning personnel enough for their
kindnesses and warmth. Also, the room rate we received was carefully tailored to
our resources. We are both VERY impressed with everything about the Chateau

I was impressed by everything at the Best Western Chateau Granville. The room
was quiet, spacious and spotless and the staff were friendly and helpful. All in

Everything was okay in the hotel. I had booked a regular room, but it was going
to be awhile before one was cleaned from the previous night so they upgraded me
to a suite which was nice. Some people don’t like the location because it’s by
the Granville Street night clubs . But it’s close to everything and it’s as safe
as anywhere else in Vancouver.
