What Guest are saying about the Coast Plaza Hotel Vancouver

This hotel seems to be 1960s construction, with little renovation since (the
concrete exterior is showing its age, the furniture is getting a little beat up,
the toilet in my bathroom frequently took 2 flushes to clear completely, etc.).
A major renovation is pending (allegedly underway, though I did not see any
signs of it), and this should bring the hotel back up to the 3* level.
Unfortunately, it will probably also raise the price to the lofty levels that
are typical of Vancouver in the summer.
In its current state, there is still a lot to like about the hotel. The staff
was very helpful. The rooms were very clean. The area is very quiet (all I ever
heard in my room was the nearby elevator). Also, the wireless is free ... but as
slow as molasses (officially 1 MB/s.; that's a generous estimate) , in my
experience.
The hotel is located in a residential area near downtown ... S/F houses,
high-rise apartments, many restaurants and shops along Denman St. (1 blk. away)
and Davie St. (2 blks.). There is a neighborhood mall beneath the hotel, with a
grocery store among other shops. Very much like Europe. There are refrigerators
in the rooms, so you could buy food there and take it up to eat. It took me
between 20 & 25 minutes to walk to the convention center at Canada Place (Google
Maps says 25 min.). It is a pleasant walk with nice scenery. About the first
half of the walk, down to Georgia St., is through a residential neighborhood, &
the rest through the commercial center of downtown.
Room Tip: I think any room would be quiet--no need 2 worry

My two grown daughters, a son-in-law, my granddaughter and myself stayed here
for 3 nights - June 19,20 & 21, 2011 - we were in room 2501. The three good
things I can say about the hotel is that it is in a great location(!), it had a
great view, and the room was large - a large living room with a sofa bed, a
kitchen, a bathroom and another bedroom with 2 double beds. However, everything
was badly in need of updating and very diplapitated looking. The bathroom tub
had stains in it and the whole bathroom looked like it was done in the 1950's.
One of my daughters and I each slept in a double bed in the bedroom, and we now
believe that the beds had bed bugs. I felt like something was crawling on me and
was itchy every night, and she developed a rash of little red bumps. The sheets
were very old, not crisp and white, the bedspread was very worn and it looked
like those TV commercials where the kid jumps on the bed and all that dust comes
out in the air. There was a closet in the bedroom but you couldn't open the door
of it all the way, as one of the beds was in the way and couldn't be moved
because of the size of the room. This hotel really needs a drastic facelift as
soon as possible !!!

I booked this for one night on priceline, not knowing the hotel we'd get, just
one downtown. My husband and I arrived very late from Tahiti and just spent the
night here. We got a huge suite though, it was nice to have the space. They did
not have kitchen things though, maybe you have to ask for them. We went out for
a late snack as we were hungry.
If you want anything in the area after 11pm, good luck most things are closed.
But you can take a cab into the action.
The front desk clerk was so nice and friendly at check in. She joked we had tans
and must be coming back from somewhere. I hadn't noticed, but I guess compared
to most people here who are pale, our slight tans were noticed! She said hi and
good night to us as we came in and out of the lobby bringing our luggage up and
the cart back down.
I would stay here again, but now I live in Vancouver, it was only temporary
before we found a place to live.
The only thing I'd suggest is having something vegan available on the night room
service menu. There was nothing for us so we had to leave to find something near
by and it was scarce!

Good family hotel. It recently received a update renovation: however, it's not
as updated as I had hoped. Mainly furniture were switched out but kitchen is
kinda dated still. But it was clean. And location is what made us come back.
Plus they have in hotel laundry on the 26 floor. Which was handy since the kids
got very muddy at the beach. There's lots to do in the evening around the area.
Gelato, ice cream and lots of food options for kids just a minute away. Grocery
and drug store on the main concourse level of hotel since it is attached to a
mall - so handy for last minute bandaid and sunscreen purchases, etc.
Overall because of location and solid good hotel amenities and cleaning staff
