We work in downtown Vancouver, but last night my step-son's graduation ceremony was downtown, and coincided with the final game of the NHL Stanley Cup series (Vancouver/Boston) and since we live 40 km out of town, we decided to stay downtown, watch the game on TV in our room and then walk to the Convention Centre for the Graduation dinner/dance.

Checking into the hotel in the early afternoon the staff were so friendly and helpful, saying what a good idea it was to be staying downtown as with the expectation that more than 100,000 people were going to be in the downtown core for the game, driving home had the potential to be crazy.

Our room was beautiful, spacious and clean. We watched most of the game, but as our team was obviously not going to win, we left before it was over to get to the graduation. Part way through dinner we started to hear reports of a riot that had broken out in the city due to the crowds downtown for the game. As it turned out, the police closed all access by vehicle to the city, and if we hadn't booked a hotel we could have been stuck for hours.

When the dinner was over, we called the hotel to ensure that we could safely get in, and they assured us that access to their street was still safe. But a security guard was at the door to make sure only registered guests were entering the building. Once back in our room, we were far enough away from the craziness that it was fairly quiet, and we watched in horror on the news what people were doing to our beautiful city.

Thank you Delta Hotels for having a room for us, it wasn't quite the downtown get-away night we were expecting - but we were very grateful for the stay.

Room Tip: Great location, easy access to everything

Don't be turned off by the awkward lobby, this staff is eager to please and they are selling a great product. Comfy bed, well soundproofed walls, at least in my larger upper floor suite. Chris and Zach were especially helpful. The restaurant food was excellent albeit sometimes slow in coming. I don't like hotels, being a light sleeper, but I was OK here!

This hotel is located at the best location in town. You are walking distance from all major tourist spots. If you are a runner, or a good walker, you could probably get to Stanley Park from here.

Service - Excellent; Room - a bit small, but clean and modern; Price - bit overpriced, but what isn't in Vancouver? Manager Chris was great.

We spent 2 nights here in September 2010 as part of a driving tour of the Pacific Northwest. We picked the hotel due to it's location, availability of parking and reasonable rate. The hotel was easy enough to find off the street, and we followed signs down into the underground car park. In hindsight, it might have been better to stop off at the hotel entrance first of all to off-load our bags and maybe check-in. I mention this because the car park is a public car park for which hotel guests get a parking permit for the duration of their stay. There is NO signage for the hotel entrance inside the car park, and we did find it confusing - not to say a bit awkward - getting back up to the hotel reception with our large suitcases.

Reception was professional and friendly and we soon checked in (with our complimentary cookies!). Our room was on one of the higher levels and was very well appointed in a snazzy, modern style. We particularly liked the way the suite was laid out with a separate sleeping and lounge area with very comfortable arm chairs. Our view looked out across the street to the Vancouver Lookout tower, which we went up twice (once during the afternoon, then again in the evening after dinner)

We'd heard mixed reports about the hotel location, but we were very pleased to be so close to the renowned Gastown historic area. This area comes alive at night and had a superb selection of restaurants and cafe's - all within walking distance of the hotel.

The Delta Vancouver Suites has been consistently great. I've stayed here 3 times in the past 3 years. Rooms are always nice / clean, service is friendly and efficient, food is good (if pricey) and location can't be beat. Highly recommend signing up for the privileges program, which costs nothing but provides perks and worthwhile loyalty incentives.
