I stayed in an executive suite room for a week while in Vancouver
recently and was very impressed with the hotel overall. The room was
amazing, modern and a touch oriental, with every amenity included. It
even had a lighting system for every room and electric drapes and
blinds. The room was huge as was the bathroom. Service was excellent in
every way.
The parking was a bit hard to find, you need to actually go onto the
street behind the hotel and then half way down the block is an entrance
that takes you under the hotel to where there is a lower lobby. There is
another lobby at street level. The location of the hotel is perfect as
well, right near Robson street with many great restaurants in easy
walking distance.
I have stayed in many hotels in Vancouver and this has become my
favorite.

Spent 5 nights here and enjoyed our stay. A high class establishment
which deserves its reputation for quality. Modern decor, excellent
helpful staff. Loved the piano bar.
Vancouver is a great city and this is a great place to stay.

I stayed in different hotels during my prolonged stay in Vancouver. The
Shangri La is a top hotel, no doubt about it, and it feels very
luxurious, so I totally agree with all other reviews that give the
Shangri La a very good to excellent score. The staff is very friendly,
and the rooms are large and nicely decorated. I also recommend their
restaurant for dinner : delicious !!!
Unfortunately, it cannot beat the Pacific Rim because the latter scores
better on some points :
- location : the Shangri La occupies the lower 15 floors of the tallest
skyscraper of Vancouver in the middle of the city, so the rooms offer
some view on the streets below. However, the new Fairmont Pacific Rim is
located at the water edge, with tremendous views on Burrard Inlet and
the possibility of a nice stroll along the water.
- swimming pool & hot tub is larger and nicer at Fairmont Pacific Rim
- the room felt more spacious and modern at Fairmont Pacific Rim
All in all, you cannot go wrong with the Shangri La Vancouver, but if
you have the choice, go for the Fairmont Pacific Rim instead, which must
be one of the best city hotels I ever encountered in the world (see my
separate review on them)

We stayed in an executive balcony king suite on the 12th floor for 4
nights at the beginning of our honeymoon.
The hotel is very central, walking distance from most of Vancouver's
significant attractions and in an area where we felt safe and
comfortable.
First and foremost we found the service absolutely excellent. The staff
were chomping at the bit to go the extra mile to make our stay perfect.
On the first day my wife realized she had left her contact lenses at
home. One word to the concierge and they had called around several
opticians and found us one of the few that was open on a public holiday.
We asked them to reserve us a place for dinner at the restaurant on our
way out one day and on returning had a full confirmation letter on
printed on hallmarked paper and a telephone message just to make sure!
The lobby is very plush but also quite modern. The corridors around the
room were all clad in beautiful dark mahogany. The fittings in the room
oozed quality and the view was superb, especially at night.
The attention to detail in cleaning and room service was again
excellent, every day of our stay the room looked perfect.
We will definitely be back, we felt this was a great place to start our
honeymoon and would recommended it highly to anybody looking for a real
luxury experience in Vancouver. |
