Hotel Reviews Inn At Westminster Quay

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and on both occasions I
enjoyed my stay. The room was of average size and tastefully decorated. The best
part was the balcony which offered expansive river views. The bed was fine and
it was nice to lay and watch the widescreen HD TV with multiple cable channels.
The bathroom was well appointed and clean.
I used the gym and was impressed with the equipment and the river view it
afforded as I worked out. The gym complex also houses a Jacuzzi and sauna.
There is a Boathouse restaurant attached to the hotel, the bar area is a great
place for a drink and the meals and service are excellent.
There really isn't much around the hotel and it is a little hard to find when
travelling by car. There is a railway station right across from the hotel which
I believe offers quick access to downtown.

First the hotel itself was great, the rooms were nicely done, sweet views from
the balcony's, and some nice touches (such as corn chips on the bed when we
checked in). We got a great travel-zoo deal on this though which made it even
better ($79). The air conditioner in our first room (we stayed twice when
arriving and departing Vancouver) was way to loud, but we were too tired to
complain. Make sure you try on the bath-robes, they are heavenly.
The area immediately around the hotel is great - the boardwalk out front makes
for a great little walk in front of some really nice condos. New Westminster
though is known a bit of a slum, so if you walk too far, it quickly becomes not
too nice. The skytrain location makes it great to get downtown without a car,
but we were surprised at just how far it is from the airport ($55 cab ride).

My husband and I spent 3 days at the Inn at the Quay from July 2 to July 5th. I
got more than I expected !!! We reserved our stay online and paid 70.00 per
night - what a deal. Lovely view of the Fraser River, quiet, comes with a
balcony. Comfortable bed, very clean, great feathered comforters. The hotel is
clean, and has nicely kept up with upgrades. Cheerful lobby and very polite,
helpful, courteous, and friendly staff. There is parking available for 6.00 a
night below the hotel. The sky train station is about a 5 to 10 minute walk and
will bring you to Vancouver in about 25 minutes. There are a few restaurants to
choose from on the Quay itself, unfortunately the market is now closed,
hopefully it will re-open in the future. There are also many restaurants in the
vicinity, a good Greek restaurant on Columbia Street, and several on 6th street.
This is one hotel we probably will be returning to. "What Guests are saying

We booked this room through Allure Hotels because the price was ridiculously
cheap for the amenities offered, and the general location was convenient for our
business dealings.
Had we not prepaid, we probably wouldn't have made it into the building. It is
located just between an older industrial area, and the Fraser River, neither of
which, I thought, were of particular interest to me. The outside of the building
doesn't exactly draw you in, and it is actually a little tricky figuring out
exactly how to get into the lobby, which has the warmth and ambiance of an older
downtown office tower.
All that said, though, I am so very glad to have discovered this little gem. It
was like an unexpected gift where the wrapping is actually not nearly as nice as
the contents. Yeah, how often does that happen?!
Our room appeared to be completely renovated. Nice, new carpets, great linens,
big clean and shiny bathroom, a desk you could actually work at (free wireless)
and a view. Yes, an interesting, ever changing, working-river-kind of view. We
are fortunate enough to live with a pristine ocean view, but this was so up
close and happening.
Our room had a tiny little balcony which was great to sit and stand on, but we
could also watch the activities from our comfy bed. Which we did. For hours. It
was so peaceful.
We did get out for dinner at the Boathouse next door, where the food and drinks
were good, and the setting nice enough. The bill for two of us, including a
couple of drinks each, actually came to more than our room. After a nice walk
waterside, we returned to the room and enjoyed the tugboats and the paddle
wheeler.
We slept with a fresh water breeze blowing in, and the white noise of the hum of
city life in the background. We woke to the smell of pancakes in the
neighborhood but didn't have time to check out the source.

I have stayed at the Inn at Westminster Quay many times, and even (oddly enough)
had my honeymoon here many years ago. For a hotel that is twenty years old it is
aging fairly well. There have been some recent renovations in some of the rooms.
The hotel features a fitness room and a small Jacuzzi, too. It is located (or
suspended) over the edge of the Fraser River, so all rooms have a balcony and a
river view. Since this is New Westminster, this is about the best choice when it
comes to the area. It is commonly used to house government and Justice Institute
employees on a regular basis and has free internet, free newspaper, and a desk.
On my most recent stay in June '09, I booked last minute on Allure Hotels and
paid $63 U.S., a bargain, plus taxes. Keep in mind there is an additional charge
for parking if you have a car.
On this recent stay, I was given a free upgrade to one of the 2 highest floors
(the top floor is actually an accounting office). Room had a new flat screen tv,
desk for work, 2 bathrobes, very clean.
Rooms are reasonably quiet, due to the proximity away from the main road.
There is a pub next door and the sky train station is adjacent.
I would recommend this hotel for business or leisure. |
