This was our first visit to this hotel/casino where we
stayed for one night on March 5, 2011. We arrived to the
the front desk at around 1pm to confirm our reservation.
Peter at the front desk was very professional and
polite, he gave us a complimentary upgrade from a
standard room to a suite in the east wing (#417). Both
sitting and bedrooms had its own separate deck which was
nice; the bed and pillows were very comfortable.
We played at the attached casino, the payout wasn't very
good at all compared to our last visit a year ago at the
Edgewater. River Rock's casino is much larger however,
and the 24/7 international food court was really good
for casual dining.
We happened to stay the same night that Smokey Robinson
had a concert in the property. From our room, we could
hear the heavy bass at midnight. Personally, I'm a heavy
sleeper so it didn't bother me too much. The location is
near the Vancouver International airport and every 5-10
minutes, you could feel and hear the jets flying over
us; maybe this only had a negative impact in the east
wing where we were.
I read somewhere that the rooms had free high speed
internet. I wasn't paying too much attention, so I
brought my iPad rather than my laptop. To my dismay,
there isn't wi-fi in the rooms so my non-3g iPad
couldn't connect to anything without an Ethernet cable.
In the casino near guest services connecting the hotel,
free wi-fi is available but it is extremely weak and if
you wander too far from it, you'll lose your connection.
For people state-side like me who don't have a Canadian
mobile plan, it would have been really nice to have
wi-fi connectivity throughout the hotel.
Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives. If we
stay there again, we would ask for the west wing. There
is plenty of shopping malls within a short driving range
and frankly, the dim sum in Richmond is very good.

We have stayed here many times to go to shows, etc and I
think they have the most comfortable beds ever! Back
before the reno's, they had a wonderful restaurant that
overlooked the water and was an inexpensive food option.
It seems to have disappeared and I guess took the good
cooks with it! The food since the reno is awful. The
buffet is gross. Plain and simple. We tried it twice
thinking we hit an off day - but nope. It is bad. The
next time we didn't want to go near the buffet, but the
only option (now that the other restaurant is gone) is
the lounge. Love the lounge - but again - food sucked!
And the portions were child sized with outrageous
pricing. Unless you want to drive into town - stick with
the food-fair area. It's actually not bad, much better
than the other options left.
Bad choice in removing that one decent restaurant. Worse
choice in new chefs. Yuck.
I will be back - but only for the rooms and awesome
staff. And I will eat at the food fair!

We spent one night here with our young children and
truly enjoyed our stay. The staff (every single one we
came in contact with) were very friendly and
accommodating. We had a beautiful one bedroom suite
overlooking the marina. We watched planes land at the
airport and did not hear a single one! The suite was
clean and comfortable. Even the pull-out sofa was
surprisingly comfortable. We had the pool area all to
ourselves while we were there and enjoyed the slide. It
was nice to have a mini fridge to keep things for the
kids. We loved the fluffy robes. I have to admit the
buffet is not the greatest but it's really not that bad.
I have been to the buffet many times and always enjoy
the salad bar and desserts very much and not so much the
hot food. The breakfast buffet included in our stay was
pretty decent though. Can't go too far wrong with
breakfast.
I would definitely stay here again and have already
recommended it to friends. I cannot thank the staff
enough for being so polite and helpful from the front
desk to the bellman and even those we just rode up in
the elevator with. Thank you for a great mini escape! Oh
yeah, and by joining iPrefer we got a complimentary
bottle of wine sent up to our room. :)

Check in was good, rooms are good value for the $. Found
it hard to believe they had no in room wi-fi. Never did
go into the casino. Sky train is right there which is
nice for shopping. My only other complaint is the out
dated TV's in the room, but overall pretty good.

We were only here for 2 nights but we had a wonderful
stay. The front desk service was wonderful and very
friendly and helpful and very encouraging to have us
return. Seeing it is Chinese New Year this week the
hotel had the lobby and reception area decorated in a
Chinese theme, a very nice touch. Our favourite at the
hotel was their Seafood Buffet, held on Friday nights.
So many varieties of seafood available, and it was so
fresh it was almost falling out of it's shell. They also
had a roast beef dinner, complete with mashed potatoes,
Yorkshire pudding and gravy, and Asian food for those
who are not seafood lovers. My colleague sampled this
and said it was excellently prepared. The desserts were
very tempting and varied but we decided to pass on
those. The rooms in the hotel were very spacious and
clean, however, I did have to go to the reception desk
and complain about my sofa-bed, my colleague got the
huge king bed in the separate bedroom with closing doors
and a vanity and closet. The sofa-bed sheets and blanket
had not been changed recently and smelled old & musty. I
contacted the front desk and they immediately sent up
someone to change them. Now that was service. Room
service was good and right on time, the Continental
breakfast for 1 was quite enough for the 2 of us. So if
you are not a big breakfast eater I would suggest you
order that. The Casino was fun too, we actually came
home with money from this Casino. Checking out was a
breeze and we took the Canada Line directly back to the
airport. If more than 2 people are travelling I would
recommend a taxi, it is only about a 10 min. drive from
the airport and costs about $15.00 incl. tip. We will
most certainly return to this hotel.
