Guest Reviews of the Sandman Hotel Vancouver

This property is dated and not impressive. Third floor
has smoking rooms - avoid if you are a non-smoker. Rooms
near the ice machine can be very noisy.
Most rooms have a mini-fridge, but not all. The
mini-suites and loft rooms have a stocked kitchenette:
coffee maker, kettle, dishes, cutlery, corkscrew,
microwave. The air-conditioner is noisy, but can't be
turned off or else the room gets very stuffy. The beds
are comfortable but the bedding is thin Vellux blankets.
The lofts have a king-sized bed (and TV) upstairs, with
the bathroom, kitchenette, couch and a second TV on the
main level. Going down the narrow stairs when you have
to use the bathroom in the middle of the night can be a
bit hazardous.
There is free wired Internet access but no WiFi (at
least not the last time I checked). There is a business
center room for guests with 2 computers and a printer.
The fitness center is a joke. If you want to work out,
walk up the street (towards the Sandman Signature hotel)
and check out the Steve Nash gym.
The front desk staff are always very kind &
friendly. There is a Moxie's in the lobby - menu is a bit
pricey but it's a good restaurant.
Try to get an odd numbered room. Even numbers face the
highway and can be quite noisy.

Used this hotel for a stay-over before going to the
airport. The location is perfect as the airport goes a
quick 3 minute shuttle. Room was good (nothing fancy),
clean & served it's purpose. They have a pretty nice
pool on the main floor (indoor). Accommodating and
friendly, pleasant hotel staff.

This hotel is a older building but everything worked
well and the room was clean. Easy to find location next
to the highway and airport. You can see it as you take
the exit on highway 99 North. I didn’t notice the smell
of cigarette smoke in the common areas as other said.

We spend a couple of days in Vancouver and were looking
for a reasonable priced hotel and found the Sandman. It
was convenient and clean and had free WiFi . It's clean
and comfortable. We liked breakfast at Cucumber cafe
restaurant connected to hotel. The staff including the
hotel's restaurant was exceptionally pleasant and the
room met our basic needs.

I stayed at this Sandman for a brief overnight. As
requested, the hotel staff gave us a room away from
freeway 99 and on 3rd floor. We were facing the parking
lot and the quiet neighborhood. Thus, we had a good
night sleep without cars and airplanes noises. It's a
little bit far from downtown, but if you don't mind the
drive a good place to stay. It was convenient and clean
and had free WiFi, which was nice. Bed was comfortable
and the room was clean.

Good value presented, but the affordability comes at the
expense of fine details. Probably a decent hotel for the
price, but you won't feel like you're staying at the
Ritz. Do your best to at least get a 5th floor room
facing the back of the hotel. Highway 99 is right beside
this hotel and may disturb you. Another perk to staying
in the back is that you can connect via wireless to the
Travelodge across the parking lot. Their wireless
internet connection is 10x faster than the Sandman's.
It's really abysmal here actually. Wireless or wired I
wasn't getting better than 0.25 Mb/s but pulling the
signal across from the Travelodge, I could get 2.5 Mb/s
You'll have to discover a clever way to get their
wireless password from them. I just called and asked,
its "delta" by the way. But they might change it up now
and then.
So rooms are a tad dated, rough around the edges but
price is low and location is convenient. Short walk to
the Canada Line train link to downtown Vancouver and a 8
minute drive to the airport. The Moxies restaurant is
descent enough. Staff here is fantastic and I will miss
them when I move tomorrow. We're hoping to relocate to a
nicer hotel with better high speed internet.
