I needed a good-value hotel with proximity to the airport. I don't drive and I
had to catch a flight the next morning.
I stayed on July 3, 2011. I found the front desk staff to be very helpful, both
on check-in and check-out, and also when I asked for a directions to a nearby
business.
This hotel is more than clean, it's spotless. The lobby, the hallways... even
the stairwells are immaculate. Unlike most hotels, there wasn't a square inch of
my room that wasn't clean and shining. (Think of the dark corners under the
bathroom counter.) The bed was very comfortable; the bathroom was roomy and had
way more than the scrap of countertop space you usually find. There's a huge
rooftop patio that overlooks the hotel's large succulents garden, and has a
beautiful view of the North Shore mountains. Richmond is a jewel anyway, an
affluent suburb of Vancouver, and the hotel's neighborhood is appealing. Take
your morning coffee to the rooftop and enjoy the view; there are two large
benches there.
If you like authentic Asian cuisine, you're in for a treat. The hotel is
surrounded by many Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese restaurants. if you prefer
Western food, Earl's restaurant is a short walk away, in the large shopping mall
across the street.
I have stayed in several hotels this spring, and have experienced several
different interpretations of the continental breakfast. La Quinta Inn has the
best I've seen so far. I came down at around 8:15 and there was a good selection
even for someone with celiac disease who can't have gluten. The scrambled eggs
were hot, the beef patties delicious; there were bagels, yogurt, many kinds of
cereal, and three different fruit juices. If another reviewer found the
breakfast lacking, maybe it's because they came down right before it ended.
Breakfast runs from 6am to 9am. Don't expect perfection at quarter to nine. It
would be nice to have metal cutlery and not plastic, but it was still a really
good free breakfast.
When I first checked in, I noticed loud TV noise from the room across the hall.
Once I closed my hotel room, I could hear nothing. My room faced Alexandra Road
and there was never any traffic noise. I appreciated the free Globe & Mail at my
door the next morning.
I booked the free hotel airport shuttle before I went to bed, and found that it
runs every 30 minutes. I was going not to YVR but to Harbour Air's floatplane
dock -- no problem. The driver was very helpful and friendly.
In short, the next time I'm looking for a very affordable room in a clean
welcoming Richmond hotel, I'm staying here. My room was around $100 -- can't
beat the price for what you get.
Room Tip: Face Alexandra Road for a very quiet room.

You get hostility instead of hospitality. The check in was fast, but very
unfriendly and you have to beg for any information. We noticed that other guest
from other countries very served more friendly and the Front Desk Agent showed
them all amenities in the hotel directly without asking. ??? The room was quite
nice, but very loud too. You could hear the cars from the street (which was not
to bad) and the A/C from all other rooms (which was very bad. A dump tone with
vibration). We complained about the noise from the room beside us, but the Front
Desk hung up after my explanation. A bit later (nothing happens about the noise)
I called again and I got a "nice" answer from the Front Desk that she is not
Maintenance (really???) and we have to wait. They offered us another room, but
there was the same noise. So no chance for sleep!
Breakfast was ok. It was not a hot Breakfast - everything was cold and when I
ask for fresh and hot eggs, the waitress told me to put the eggs in the
microwave! WHAT????? Also, clean tables??? No chance. The waitress was too busy
with talking to other people (hotel staff).
Check out was also quick and again very unfriendly - I would say rude! She
didn't look at us and she didn't even say good bye.
We travel a lot, but this was one of the worth hotel we ever stayed! NOT AGAIN!

Clean hotel surrounded by Chinese businesses and restaurants. Good size and
clean room with a view over the car park and across to the mountains. Bathroom
was a good size but with only the one bar of soap and one tiny shampoo. There
was a coffee machine with paper cups, safe and an iron and board. We had a stop
over so we choose to be close to the airport so we were prepared for the noise.
The staff on the desk were helpful and allowed us to store our luggage whilst we
filled in the day before our night flight and transfers were provided. Listed in
the facilities the 'Market Place', this turned out to be a small room with 5
vending machines. The hotel had a tiny indoor pool and coin operated washing
machine.
We choose this hotel over others in the area because they served waffles for
breakfast they did not mention that you had to cook your own and would have to
get down early. Breakfast was until 9.00 am we got down about 8.40 am and the
waffle machines were being cleared - waffles finished! The bay-marie of
scrambled eggs was also empty. Decided to start with cereal and juice and were
shocked to find only polystyrene crockery and plastic cutlery. The cereal was
stale and the juice watered down. We only just got this before the milk and
juice were cleared. We grabbed the last to pieces of bread and put it in the
toaster before they could take it so they took the condiments - still ten
minuets before 9.00 am. I ran after the staff to the kitchen and grabbed some
butter and jam, I got some milk back for the cereal and the coffee I poured
before it to was also cleared. Whilst doing this I noticed two muffins they had
neglected and I grabbed them - we laughed. No washing up in this hotel - all was
cleared by 9.00 am the plastic rubbish bags tired up and replaced in front of
us. Whilst we we still eating the breakfast staff lined up for there cheques and
left - we laughed again at chinese efficiency.
We would not willing stay here again I would pay extra for a china cup.

We stayed here one night in May, paid about $100. The hotel has enlarged since
we were last here, but the service and quality is just as good, lovely, soft
king size bed. Only two criticisms – the airport plane noise seems louder than
in the past – not really intrusive but louder.....and what’s with the in room
wi-fi system? They require you to sign-up for some web based system that I just
couldn’t be bothered to do, so I didn’t check any emails. No worries, but what’s
wrong with just giving me a password to the wi-fi system as is done in many
other hotels. Minor niggle, but I just wanted to get it off my chest. They do
have a computer centre in the lobby for guests to use though. |
