Very good location in the right side of town.
The rooms are furnished with elegant decor, the bathrooms in the standard rooms
are small and basic for a 4 star but it was fine for our overnight stay.
I think the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.
Overall I would recommend it and it is one of the main vocal points in Victoria.
The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, go for a harbour view if you can.

Very nice hotel with a great location. Very clean room and comfortable bed.
Great service, friendly staff. Small bathroom, but who really cares. Would
absolutely stay here again. $30 a night parking fee should be reduced
Nightlife
Great Pubs within walking distance

The Fairmont Empress was lovely and lived up to its reputation. The rooms were a
good size; the bathroom was small. However, the hotel is large with many
amenities, so I took advantage of the sauna, as well as having drinks in the
Bengal Room. Too bad it was pouring out, so fled Victoria after a night to
return to sunny Vancouver!
Getting there
Took the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria - did not read guidebooks thoroughly
and did not realize that the Tsawwassen terminal is at least a 40 minute ride
from downtown (after a 10 minute Sky Train ride to the bus). The ferry ride is
about an hr and a half, then an hour EXPRESS bus ride to the Fairmont. The
ferries near the Fairmont are the ones that come from the USA!

The hotel service was above my usual expectation of North American hotels,
although the access to check-in is quite confusing. The room is a bit small
although it is an upgrade (not in size, but in comfort). Check-in was courteous
and VIP lounge was a great place to start a morning. Room was clean and felt
good, but lacked space. The lack of tub is a minus, especially for someone on
holiday, and adaption of rooms into the old building can mean strange door
openings, but overall a very pleasant stay.

A beautiful, historic hotel. Wonderful service. But it was too expensive for
what it was. The air was stale, the room was too hot (even in the winter), and
just generally small. I am glad we sprang for the gold room because it included
appetizers and breakfast (definitely worth it), but the room itself was not.

Beautiful old world hotel but with upgraded amenities. Great central location
with good views if you have large enough windows. Our best view was from the
bathroom! Comfy bed and pillows. They were very receptive to our request for a
better coffee pot and in the end we were given a fancy Keurig machine! We had
afternoon tea with scones and lovely pastries which was a great treat. Victoria
is a gorgoeus city and this hotel complements its British heritage.

The Empress is a grand hotel in the Victorian sense. The location could not be
better...right on the harbor, and next door to the British Vancouver Museum on
one side and the old-town-type shopping and restaurant quarter on the other. The
rooms are well appointed and clean. The service is outstanding. The food is
great also! The Bengal Room astonished me. I felt like I was in India and the
food and drink were top notch. However, be prepared to walk a lot inside the
hotel. It is a maze and until you get to know it, I even suggest using a map,
which they provide upon request. |
