When checking in we had to wait over 1 hour for our room to be made ready When
we finally got into the room (#18)(we had been told that a canopy bed was in the
room, there wasn't) the coffee pot had old coffee in it The coffee grounds were
also still in the coffee maker There was no Coffee supplies in the room. In the
bathroom, the tub and shower curtain were filthy and stained with mold. We did
call reception and they replaced the Shower curtain but told us that the
Housekeeping staff had gone home for the day. the next day after a very
enjoyable trip around Victoria we returned for a rest in our room in the early
evening. Guess what? our room had not been cleaned, no bed made, bathroom still
dirty, no coffee supplies called reception again got the same reply. Breann in
the dining room saved the day and promised us that the room would be good which
it was Third day guess again the room was not cleaned again By now we were ready
to walk away but it was Easter and no rooms were available in the area. Let me
tell you that if it wasn't for Breann and her excellent service and the kitchens
food it would have been a total disaster for our Anniversary trip. She and the
kitchen staff performed 150%.Needless to say a great disappointment

The best thing about the Gatsby Mansion is its location, a two-minute walk from
the ferry dock. It is five minutes' walk from the center of town and sits right
across from the harbor with full frontal views.
The rooms are good B&B quality, not sumptuous but much nicer and far more unique
than the average hotel for which you pay about the same price. Breakfasts come
with it and are good, though the coffee was terrible.
The staff was friendly and attentive without exception--in many ways more
present than in most B&B's. Overall, it made a fine place to spend several days
in Victoria in the vicinity of a host of great restaurants--and we never needed
a car.

On our recent trip to Victoria we stayed at the Gatsby. The employees were so
nice. honestly I think they were the best part. So friendly and helpful! We
could see the city and the Empress all lit up from the amazing view, which was
also pretty awesome. The entire time we were there I never heard a peep from
anyone else, and I believe the place was full at least 2 of the nights.
There was one day where I was in a cranky mood because of a horrible dining
experience, and the positive and friendly Gatsby staff made me smile on my way
in, and improved my entire day.
The king mattress was a bit firm, but that is how I like to sleep. My husband
probably would have preferred a squishier mattress.
The room was basic but beautiful, with a little coffee maker and tv. Also good
wifi, we would have streamed hulu movies if they worked in Canada.
Also we accidentally took the key, and we are sending it back. they didn't
charge us and were super nice about it!

The hotel was as beautiful as its pictures. The hostess was very nice and took
us to our room. A fan that I requested was in the room and we were on the bottom
floor. The room was very nice and comfortable. We ate twice at the restaurant
and the food was good but the service was a bit slow. Overall it was a very good
experience
Area recommendations
The downtown area near the harbor is loaded with transportation and sightseeing.
Great place to centralize yourself.
Dining
Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Empress is a must. They even have a less expensive
plate for the kids. It is a fun and elegant way to spend the afternoon...

Location is great and the hotel is nice, but would have expected more for the
price. The bed was very comfy but the room was looking a bit tired, old carpet,
needed a lick of paint, etc. Bathroom needed a serious update.

we chose the Gatsby because it is a heritage building/hotel located in the heart
of Victoria, minutes from the inner harbour and next to the parliament
buildings. it is a beautiful historical old place, refurbished nicely. we had a
lovely breakfast in the sunroom in the morning. staff were very helpful and
pleasant. overall a great getaway.

We stayed in the building called the Judges House. We were concerned because we
had a room right next to the front door and thought we would hear a lot of
traffic noise. We heard nothing! The room was decently furnished with older
furnishes of a different era but nice. The bed was comfortable and had nice
linens. The staff was very helpful in providing recommendations for places to
eat and tours. The front desk was very willing to store our bag upon check out
so we could tour some more prior to catching one of the later ferries back to
the US. Our experience at the Huntington Room or Cafe, on site, was outstanding
and the food was very good! This place was close to all the attractions, just a
short walk to the downtown area. We would definitely stay here again with no
hesitation!
