Review of the Abigail Hotel Victoria BC

We went to Victoria to escape the Alberta winter and were not disappointed. We
stayed 5 nights. We chose Abigail's partly because of the Trip Advisor revues,
and partly as we intended to go to a concert while in Victoria and saw that it
was in walking distance. We were very impressed. From our greeting when we
arrived, to the helpfulness of all the staff, the GREAT breakfasts, the
wonderful room and the fact that we were able to walk to everything we wanted to
see. The morning chats with the chef about recommended restaurants were great.
The manager, Nick, checked regularly to see if there was anything we needed. All
of the staff were friendly and helpful.
The one thing we would say is that it is buried a bit in their web site that
there is no elevator as this is a heritage property. They do have a ground floor
room. The stairs were not a problem for us but might be for some.
The hotel was a real high light of our trip and we would highly recommend it!!

I arrived in Victoria with a reservation for another hotel which turned out to
be the worst hotel and there was no way I was staying there for 5 days. So there
I was at 11:00 pm standing on the street outside said hotel.
I called the hotel, told them my predicament, and that I was in need of a room
for 5 nights and all I wanted was top quality sheets and a room that didn't
smell. They laughed and said they could do better than that! Room was now
confirmed but I was still on the street. Abigail's to the rescue. They sent a
cab over to pick me up!
I had no sooner exited my cab when the night manager met me in the driveway and
proceeded to ensure my every need was taken care of. From that moment I knew I
was in the right place. Check in was seamless and I was escorted to my room
minutes later with a couple of their amazing cookies in hand :-)
The location is perfect. Tucked away in a residential area but I walked to every
sight-seeing area with ease. Quaint, comfortable, friendly, and more. The have
spa services on site and were more than happy to book a massage for me at a time
that was best for me. A library to watch TV, read, have a glass of wine, or just
visit with other travellers.
The room was amazing!!! Beautiful decor, fabulous sheets on an uber-comfortable
bed, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and so much more. The next morning I went for
breakfast and was greeted by the day manager who mysteriously knew me by name,
yet I had not met him. "Just checking in to make sure everything was ok, I had
heard you had a poor experience at another hotel." Now that is customer service.
Breakfast - what can I say. Simply delicious. There is a chef on staff every day
to make a different menu every day! Every day there is two items for breakfast
and they change every day. Seriously, this was some of the best breakfasts I
have ever had. And the chef talks to all the guests the whole time you are there
eating. Tips for travel, restaurant suggestions, offers of more breakfast,
snacks for the day, fresh scones and buns every morning - All part of the cost
of your room!!! Incredible!!
The front desk staff changed a couple times a day and I never did get all of
their names figured out ... Megan (saved me from the bad hotel), Laura (with the
amazing smile and incredible energy/spirit), Chris, Kelly, and forgive me but I
don't remember the rest of their names. They were all so helpful and gracious.
Now for the stuff that made Abigail's the best hotel I have ever stayed at.
I took ill one day with a bit of a stomach ailment and had to head off to the
hospital for a checkup and a few pints of saline. All the staff were quite
concerned for me and being a solo-traveller that made a world of difference.
When I returned from the hospital several hours later they greeted me at the
door, offered to make anything I needed, run out to the store if I needed, and
then .... they had also put a lovely note in my room from the General Manager
(Nick) and a tray with crackers, nuts and ginger ale for me. I couldn't have had
better treatment at home.
The staff and accommodations are absolutely top-notch. I will never stay
anywhere else in Victoria. Abigail's is the only place for me and it should be
the only place you choose. The breakfasts were delicious and the way all the
staff treat guests is 6 Star!!
If I missed any names or hotel features, forgive me :-)
This "Top-Rated" hotel absolutely deserves its placement as Number One in
Victoria.

I booked and was not at all disappointed. I would normally have just booked at
the Fairmont but on reading Reviews I changed my mind and I am glad I did so. I
sometimes despair at trying to read through reviews on trip advisor but having
now stayed at Abigail's I can verify that those that have given 5 out of 5 have
done so truthfully and you can forget the rest. We still had high tea at the
Fairmont Empress and enjoyed its shops and lobby but were able to retire to our
'home from home'.
The General Manager does an excellent hands on job of making sure all his guests
are relaxed and comfortable and also acts as the Hotel Concierge making
recommendations and bookings for local restaurants.
The breakfast area with open kitchen provides one with the nearest thing you
will find to having your own breakfast Chef. When you eat Matt's breakfast
scones and ask for the recipe they are ready printed at reception :-)
When I told Matt he had cooked the second best breakfast that I could remember
he went quiet for a good 5 minutes afterwards before he could bring himself to
ask where the best had been. He quickly cheered up after he heard that it was
The Savoy. :-)
Thank you to everyone at Abigail's for your friendly and consummate professional
service and for keeping up a fine tradition of the best in North American Inns'.
