Guest Review of Pauls Motor Inn Victoria
July 1, 2010
My husband, my 10 month old daughter and I stayed at
Paul's Motor Inn in May 2010 during our trip through
Vancouver Island. Before that night, we stayed at a way
more expensive hotel and wanted to extend our stay for
one night, but weren't willing to pay so much again.
After reading the reviews, we decided that it would be a
nice inexpensive way to spend the last night..
Well... The check in itself was fast, but I can't say
that the staff was nice at all. We got a room facing the
parking, although they knew we were coming with a baby
and they also have more quiet and safe rooms facing the
back area.
When entering the room, an unexplainable smell appeared.
We immediately opened the windows, but it didn't really
go away.
We found hair that didn't belong to us in almost every
corner of the room.
The bathroom "door" (you have to slide it) did not close
well and it was very loud trying it.
We did not want our daughter crawling around on the
floor, since the carped looked way too dirty.
Also the bed was not as comfortable was we wished for.
The mattress obviously hasn't been changed for quite a
while.
The coffee maker was very dirty. We tried to just boil
some water and even after we let it run trough 5 times,
the water still looked yellowish and smelled like old
coffee.
It was not possible to cool down the room. There is no
airconditioning, but they supply you with a standing
cooling fan. Since we didn't want to open the window
(because we didn't feel safe and it was way too loud),
we had no other choice but using it. Strangely, it got
even more hot after a while (we made sure the heating
was switched off!).
On our 3 week trip, we stayed in all kinds of hotels and
motels, and I can say that Paul's Motor Inn was the
worst.
Next time I would try to find something between the very
expensive hotels and this dump. Victoria is nice, and
its worth paying a bit more to have at least a nice
night of rest.
The only plus point is the location. Its in walking
distance from all the sights, but actually I am not
really sure if I could recommend walking the distance,
since it does not appear to be totally safe.....

Paul's Motor Inn has a good location near to all tourist
attractions like Chinatown, Parliament, Empress Hotel
and Downtown. The city room that we stayed in was clean,
there is also a cable TV and bed was comfortable. They
have a restaurant which served breakfast, lunch and
dinner- food was okay. They also give a free map. If you
fancy queuing in a line there is a white spot restaurant
in front of this inn. Try to visit Fishermann's Wharf as
they have a friendly sea lion and try Barb's best fish
and chips.

To reach this Inn by public transport from Swartz bay
take the No. 70 bus (Express bus) the fare 2.50 each one
way. This Inn has a good location near to all tourist
attractions. We stayed at the city room overnight it has
a cable tv, room was clean and spacious and bed was
comfortable. They also have a restaurant- food was okay
it’s not included in the price. If you fancy to queue in
a line there is a white spot restaurant in front of this
inn.

The first time I stayed there he double charged me for
my room, the second time he did not have any idea how to
deal with a Expedia reservation. The motel is in rough
shape but the rooms are clean and the courtyard rooms
are pretty quite. The owner should reno the place
completely! This place is in such a great location that
any money invested into a reno would be very wise.

Paul’s Motor is a long time favourite of mine. I mostly
use it for business, the hotel has all the amenities I
need. Rooms are clean, simple and very comfortable. It
is my #1 choice. Hotel is older but in great shape.
Close to restaurants and tourist locations

I was surprised with the quality of the room, all the
amenities a 3-4 star hotel has at an affordable price
and great service from front desk staff. When we asked
for a suggestion of a nice seafood restaurant we were
given a coupon for the best seafood restaurant in town
with the view to the harbour. The motel is located 10
minute walking from the harbour

Two months ago, our family took a weekend trip to
Victoria, BC and stayed at Paul's Motor Inn, which is
conveniently located in downtown Victoria & close to
most major attractions and transportation terminals.
That hotel comes with 24 hour restaurant service,
complimentary in-room coffee & tea and children under 16
stay for free. The room we stayed in was spacious, neat,
clean, quiet, comfortable & affordable. The staffs there
were very friendly & helpful. We totally loved that
place and will definitely go back there the next time we
are in Victoria area

“Restaurant on site, decent food, a little pricey room
does not deserve a one star rating. Carpets very dirty,
bathroom not cleaned, no air conditioning and I had to
climb on top of a table to get the ceiling fan on, the
safe was broken but, the staff were very friendly and
helpful.” |
