Overall a very good value, especially the packages that include breakfast. I was
upgraded to a harbor view room on check in and the staff were all very friendly.
The room was relatively spacious and very clean. Furnishings were of good but
not great quality.
Here are a few quirks to know about:
1. The "Free shuttle to the downtown core" only goes 4 blocks. I couldn't
believe this when the front desk told me this. I asked her to verify that she
really meant only 4 blocks and she said yes. The downtown core is obviously
larger than 4 blocks, so I ended up walking.
2. The breakfast included in the Bed & Breakfast package is a very limited menu
and not the full one that a la carte guests get. There was one hot protein
choice (eggs, bacon or sausage and potatoes) and the rest were either
continental or french toast, etc. I think there was a total of 5 choices. The
food was fine though. I also had room service which was good, but as most room
service is, it was excruciatingly expensive ($20 hamburgers).
3. The hotel is located just on the edge of the downtown core. Still within
walking distance of the Victoria Clipper and the main restaurant/entertainment
areas, but not right in the heart of downtown (Victoria actually has very few
right in the downtown core itself).
4. A huge positive was that they were able to check me in early since the
Clipper arrives in the morning. This obviously depends on room availability, but
being flexible on this was greatly appreciated. Good job, guys!
5. Don't expect Westin heavenly Bed level of bedding here. It wsa clean and
fine, but not exactly luxurious bedding. The bed was firm, which I like, but not
rock hard.
6. The free wi-fi worked great in my room and was a breeze to connect to.
Excellent perk.
Overall a good stay and I'd stay there again as long as the room rates stay a
good value.

We enjoyed a Saturday night here taking advantage of the Bed & Breakfast
package, and we found it to be an exceptional value. We were able to upgrade to
an apparently recently remodeled king-bedded room - the furniture was in fine
shape, the decor lovely, the view of the Empress and a glimpse of the harbor
exhilarating, and it was one of the cleanest hotel rooms we had even been in.
Perhaps a slightly firmer mattress would have been appreciated, but that is just
our preference. We noted numerous WiFi repeaters in our 4Th floor hall, and we
had a very strong signal. We concur with others - the hotel staff was top-notch!
A note about the Bed & Breakfast package. It included a fully cooked and served
meal in the hotel's restaurant, and rules allowed us to apply full credit to an
upgraded entree that we especially enjoyed - Montreal Smoked Meat Hash & Eggs -
for just a few dollars extra. The restaurant - Samuel's - features a popular and
inexpensive Sunday Buffet Brunch that books-up in advance. We would have enjoyed
it, but it was fully booked when we tried to make a reservation on our Saturday
morning arrival. So, if you plan to go, consider making brunch reservations in
advance. Look for discount coupons on the net.

Front person was very nice and welcoming. Great location, good price. Our room
looked small and a little old with well-used furniture (not antique) and TV was
at odd place so we could not watch TV from the bed. The bed was a little hard
with old blanket. But clean and tidy. You cannot expect a lot for this price.

First thing - the wifi did not work properly (depending on where you sat in the
room). The room was smaller than I expected but was clean and tidy. The service
was great and very helpful with directions. The hotel itself is in a great
location, very close to town and within such short walking distance to the
Victoria Clipper and bus depot. If your contemplating staying here don't be too
wary, it's a safe choice and you won't be unhappy with the location or service.
I would happily stay here again, I think I was just unlucky with the wifi.

We enjoyed the Royal Package for $139.00 per night between Christmas and the New
Year. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, quiet location, friendly staff and great
food at Samuel's by the park. Royal package includes a hot breakfast and coffee,
dinner each day of stay PLUS tickets for two at the Royal Musuem and the IMAX
Theatre. Harbour and the Empress Hotel is just a few steps away.

It's not our first visit. We find the rooms comfortable, the location great and
the price reasonable. The staff were very accommodating and pleasant. Samuel's
breakfast is OK, I have no complaints about it. Will stay again.

If you want to stay at a hotel that has a totally 100% customer centered staff,
one that is spotless, has great rooms, an awesome restaurant and that will go
out of their way to be sure that you are happy - you got to stay here. And, if
you are "looking for a deal" their "Royal Package" offers you a great and tasty
breakfast, a gourmet quality supper/dinner PLUS a ticket to either the BC
Museum, the Craigdurrock(sp) Castle or a ticket to see an IMAX film (each day) -
there were two of us, the cost for the Royal package was $39.00 extra each day -
do the math, one room, two breakfasts, two dinners, two tickets - all for $150
for two folks - color this a deal, a big deal where the price is awesome - you
got to check this deal out - you OWE it to yourself - and every meal we had at
Samuels was fantastic - honestly,

Other than the fact that we had no heat in our room and the night front desk
person was not helpful and lied to us...the hotel was clean and the location was
good. They need updates!! |
