BRIDES BEWARE!! DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING HERE. This hotel is a wedding factory.
They do not care about your event, your guests and they do not keep their word.
This hotel is close to bankruptcy and is desperately trying to find the biggest
events and pack as many events in as they can at one time, regardless of the
effect it may have on your wedding.
My fiancée and I recently went to visit the Westin Bear Mountain as we were
considering it as our wedding venue. When we met with the wedding consultant on
site we were taken on a tour to the Ceremony Circle and the Member's Lounge.
Both looked very nice and met our budget. We discussed putting down a deposit
but they base their deposit amount on the total estimated catering cost and site
fees. We were ensured that the two dates we were considering would be held for
us for two weeks and would be notified if anyone else was considering those days
for their wedding.
My mother and I came back the following day to view the grounds again and I
emailed the consultant asking her to send me the deposit amount and contract so
we could get our wedding set in stone. It was at this time that she explained to
us that one of our dates was already booked up and she had just "forgotten" but
promised our second date was still available so I asked her to hold it for us
and send us the deposit amount as soon as possible.
This conversation happened at about 5pm last night and at around 4pm today she
emailed me and explained that at some time last night another sales consultant
booked another wedding on our date at our time behind her back. Our only option
left was to start our wedding at 5:30pm which is obviously ridiculous. When I
balked and asked why our date was given away when we were promised that it was
held for us she said... and I quote...
"The sales person had gone above me to the general manager of the hotel with
this piece of business and they felt that it was the better piece of business to
book"
...in other words, we weren't spending enough money so they decided to book
another event underneath us so we would be forced to cancel our event there.
We are absolutely disgusted and destroyed. We were told that they cater to any
size of event and would work very hard to make sure our wedding was perfect. We
met with them well before this other couple did and tried to pay the deposit
right away but we were never even told the cost!
I can only imagine what else could have gone wrong if we had decided to go ahead
with our wedding at this site. Would they have enough staff for both? Would we
be shorted food or materials? If they can double book weddings, I assume they
would be double booking rooms too. Do not waste your time on this venue and be
very very careful if you are at all considering it. STAY AWAY!

I wanted a weekend away from Vancouver and found this Westin location online and
thought i would check it out and im happy with the choice i made. The staff were
helpful and friendly, my room was clean and the bed was amazing. The views from
my room were incredible. The location is slightly away from Victoria. All in all
it was a relaxing trip and this hotel is exactly what i was looking for and i
would recommend to stay here.

I have stayed here at this resort probably a dozen times - winter and summer. It
is in a very pretty spot. The golf courses are amazing and the property is quite
impressive.
The Mountain Athletic Club is an amazing facility for fitness with an amazing
hot tub and pool (both outdoors).
The restaurant lounge has great food and service and is really comfortable.
The rooms are very nice and spacious and very comfortable.
My only comment from my last trip would be that they did not give me an upgraded
room - even though I am a Gold SPG Member and the place was nearly deserted.
Other than that - I would recommend if you want a nice place but beware that it
is about 20 min drive from downtown and the morning commute can take 1 hour.

We had booked ourselves to stay for a New Years Eve event that would provide us
with a fun evening out but also a close place to stay to prevent us from having
to worry about getting home safely afterwards. We had purchased tickets for
Jack's Place which provided a lack lustre dinner for the cost, and then went
back to our tidy and beautifully-designed hotel room to change clothes for
dancing afterwards. Upon leaving our room, the elevator became stuck as the
result of another riders' "horse playing" and we were delayed approximately an
hour from joining our fellow guests at the party. The event while temporarily
distressing allowed for at least a good appreciation for some interesting
company. The attentive staff did their absolute best to get us out safely and
quickly, and further helped to continue to make our Bear Mountain New Years a
wonderful weekend to remember. While we're not likely to repeat or recommend a
Jack's Place New Years, the Westin Bear Mountain itself is top-notch! Perhaps
next year skip the bar + the elevator... just stay in your room w/a good bottle
or two of champagne, some Chinese food or sushi + some wonderful company to keep
you smiling thru to 2012. |
