I was not pleased with this hotel.
First of all, they do not have wireless internet and the
system they had did not work with my new laptop.
As a courtesy, the front desk manager altered my
computer so that I could connect with their in-house
internet.
Second, it is a long walk from downtown if you are
without a car. They do have a van that will drive you
places and drop you off but the 1X I used it I
interrupted an in-house party and I did not feel
comfrotable asking for it again.
The rooms were worn and relatively basic and need to be
updated with new furniture as mine was scratched.
The positives were that the staff gave me an early
check-in at 12 PM as I had arrived on the Clipper with
luggage and hanging on to it for 4-5 hours before the
3:00 PM check in would have been diffiicult.
The staff were courteous and eager to make things
fitting for any issues like the internet service dilemna.

When I went to use the hot tub on Friday afternoon,
March 25th, Health Inspectors had just closed it down.
You can see why.
A previous guest's comments about condition of the
locker room were spot on. Dittos about other public
areas of the hotel.
It appears that this property is not being kept up. It
is a shame as the location is excellent.

We are familiar with this hotel having been a guest over
several years. We recommend choosing from the many other
properties in this price range, unless you have to be
close to the water. There are several reasons for this.
First, it is clear that the public areas have not been
renewed or cared for in some time. The carpets in the
entrance and the elevators are not clean. The moulding
in the elevators can only charitably be described as
shop worn. The wallpaper in the hallways and in the
lobby are either dirty or loose in places. The room
furniture probably dates to the hotel's opening in the
early 1990's.
Second, the lockers are rusty and there are tiles
missing in the locker rooms (the pool is a treat as it
is half indoors and half outdoors). The public washrooms
could be cleaner. The
sanitary napkin dispensers appear to be permanently
out-of-order. Same with one of the
urinals. Our room's sink did not have a stopper or drain
properly, even after bringing these and other issues to
staff's attention.
And, as noted by other reviewers, the rooms are subject
to noise from the hall / other rooms. The restaurant has
a limited menu and overpriced.
The concierge ride service to (not from, unless you call
well ahead) the city centre is great
during the recent snow, we did not find the sidewalks to
be adequately or quickly cleared.
Most of the front desk staff are superb, the management
and maintenance staff are not so good, even rude.

I travel on business to the Victoria area about 6 times
a year. I stay only at this hotel every time and have
for at least the last 3 years. The hotel staff is always
polite and ready to serve any request I have including
room type, floor height etc. Never have I ever left this
hotel disappointed. Now to be fair this is not a 5 star
hotel but this hotel doesn't claim to be. Rooms and
property are well maintained and clean. I usually stay
at many Coast hotels because I know what to expect and
this hotel is no exception, keep up the the excellent
work and some other reviews in my opinion are not
completely accurate.
