Guest Review of the Embassy Inn Victoria BC

My wife and I recently visited Canada and stayed in 8 hotels / guest houses.
This was the best of them. The hotel offers good views from the higher rooms at
the front, the staff were very helpful and the restaurant / lounge bar provided
good quality food at both ends of the day. If we go to Victoria again we will
look to stay here, although without the car as Victoria's one-way system is
maddening!

Great location, great price.
A smallish downtown hotel close to the harbour and all that the centre of
Victoria has to offer. I prefer the main building over the restaurants with
hotel type rooms as opposed to the more motel type building around the pool.
Good staff and a nice restaurant/lounge. For the price this is very good value.

It is literally right across from the Parliament buildings! Giving it a 4 rating
because of this.
Pros - great location, across the st. from the Parliament buildings, one block
up from the Inner Harbor, Visitor Info and Fairmont Empress. Touristy Govt. St
and Wharf St, Market Square and Chinatown 15 mins walk. FREE parking! The hotel
is also great about letting you check in early and if room's not ready, lets you
store your luggage and park your car.
Cons - this is an older hotel, think of an older Days Inn or Motel 6. This is a
no frills, hotel and for the pretty decent rates, you are paying for the
location. Clean, older linens and furnishings. Like most older hotels in
Victoria, it does NOT have AC so be forewarned in you're going when it's hot!

stayed in 1 bedroom with kitchen, in the tower which is the newer building;
furnishings dated but useable, bed could use new mattress, kitchen has barely
enough dishes, only a couple of pots, no frying pan and cutlery for 4; downtown
location fantastic as you can walk to Beacon Hill, downtown, and waterfront;
staff very friendly and extremely helpful; has balcony (with good screens) off
bedroom and separate one off living area; bedroom spacious and living area well
laid out; has A/C but not used at this time of year; outdoor pool but not open
yet for season; dining room available but again not used; con is that you can
hear the phone ringing in the next room (thinking it is yours); recommend this
accommodation for the location only. I am sure there are nicer accommodations
for a higher price

Family We loved that the room had a kitchenette and balcony. It's in a great
location - quiet neighborhood close to the Parliament Buildings. Lobby and room
decor needed an update.
friendly staff; good breakfast menu.
This was our second trip to the embassy and enjoyed it more than ever.

Older hotel is charming and well maintained
Although this hotel is older, everything in it was extremely well maintained. We
found it very quiet, and the staff helpful. A very surprising experience

I found the room to be generally clean but I had to request new bed covers
because the existing ones smelled musty. The queen sized bed was also hard and
uncomfortable. This room was in the tower (newer) part of the hotel, I don’t
know what the others would be like. I did find the office staff very helpful and
friendly.

A home away from Home
The hotel staff were pleasant and always smiled as you passed by the lobby. The
rooms were pretty big and the cleaning service was ever so fast. The food was
not the greatest, but eatable if you are hungry. If you are ever in need of a
quiet place to stay right by the legislative building, then the Embassy Inn is
your place in Victoria.

Clean, Comfortable and Fair Price
If you are looking for a luxury hotel, look elsewhere. If you want a place to
lay your head and get a good nights sleep while you visit Victoria, than this is
a good choice. Fair price and clean rooms. The front desk staff was helpful
recommending places to eat, and was You could do better, but for me this worked
just fine.

It was very quiet, clean, & the staff were friendly.
Excellent situated just 5 minutes walk from downtown. Suite with small kitchen
perfect for breakfasts. Rooms with lot of space. Very helpful and kind staff.
Clean rooms

This hotel provided exactly what we needed: smoking area on deck, kitchenette,
and a nice view. We were in the older, harbour wing; it was quiet, and the maid
service was friendly and respectful of our requests. We were also very happy
with the location downtown, right by the horse-drawn carriages, the legislature
and harbour

Disappointed I stayed at the Inn with my wife and teenage kids. We checked in
late after viewing the outstanding fireworks show at the Butchart Gardens and
checked out early the next morning, so we had a very limited exposure to staff
and services. We stayed in the "newer" tower side of the inn. On the positive
side, the location was terrific for visiting the downtown area. On the negative
side, the room was seriously out of date. The mattresses were well worn and the
bathroom fixtures were reminiscent of a 1960-ish highway motel not a downtown
hotel. The sleeping area was a standard size, but the bathroom was very small -
not big enough for two people to navigate around. Both shower and sink faucets
did not regulate water well at all. The hot water knob on the sink would not
stay on - very odd. When you turned it on, it would immediately spin back to the
off position.
