Review of the Strathcona Hotel Victoria

Older hotel centrally located in Victoria. Rooms small
but reasonably nice. Don't get a room overlooking the
roof bar and outdoor volleyball area - very noisy till
all hours. "Breakfast" = cold bagels, fruit, mediocre
coffee. Pretty good value - other places in the area
seem alot more expensive. Parking free about a half
block away

The room is very small and very warm in summer; couldn't
cool except with open window. You might like this place
if you're age 20-30s as it has a roof-top sand
volleyball court and bar with loud music until 11pm or
so. Indoor hotel bars are rather boring; one of them, a
hillybilly-hick styled bar attracts some odd characters;
it has a statue of Jack Daniels outside. Victoria is
pretty dull. You can get a good look at it in a couple
hours of walking. Some nice architecture and port views,
but not much going on. Expect to pay considerable taxes
on whatever price you arranged.

The best thing about the Strathcona Hotel was the
location and it was very cheap. It was 2 blocks away
from the city centre and walking distance away from
anything you need during your stay.
The only thing I did not like about the hotel is the
fact that you have to pay for parking and no air
conditioning.

It was an excellent location-a couple blocks to pretty
much all the major sights downtown. The lobby was also
quite nice and the room was clean.
Unfortunately we stayed at the hotel during a heat wave
and it had no air conditioning. It still cooled off at
night outside but the bars-yes they have like 3 or 4 on
the property- were so loud we had to keep our window
closed and sweated all night in our room.

We liked how everything was close by, could walk
anywhere, beds were comfortable.
was hot out and no air conditioning, had to open window
for a breeze then was noisy for the bar is just outside
the window. also hotel has no parking and charged an
extra ten dollars for parking.

bad smell at room entrance, we are disappointed with the
room size, too small, no facilities such as fridge,
microwave, even no table and chairs

The location was perfect.
They asked additionally 100,- CAD as a deposit, although
they made a print the credit card. The room, declared as
a "Deluxe room", was small and with old and used
furniture. We asked about a quite room, have got very
noisy, directly to the main street ( there was pub, the
people on the street in front of the hotel were very
noisy till midnight). Wifi did not work.

The staff was very helpful and accommodating. They went
out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. There
is a pub located in the hotel and it is very noisy when
it closes as people are loitering in the street (from
about 2am-3am). The noise is only heard if you have a
room overlooking the street. Make sure to bring shampoo
and conditioner as the hotel doesn't provide this apart
from an all in one bath gel/shampoo. it is very
convenience location. and very safety. comfortable to
stay for trip.
I think it is little small room for 2 people.
The location of the hotel is really really nice
location, so I stop by the hotel while I was looking the
beautiful Victoria City. The breakfast also really
really nice!
However, in the 1st floor, there was pup (or bar), so
every night about until 2a.m. my room was so noisy, but
I'm okay because I was so tired after trip. Therefore,
decision is up to your condition

It had a really good location and many different options
for dining and nightlife. My friend and I really liked
the rooftop bar/restaurant, although the weather wasn't
really appropriate for the volleyball courts.

very good location noise pollution : traffic parking
free breakfast : a lot of choice and food good"
Victoria's most entertaining hotel features the Sticky
Wicket pub and restaurant, Clubhouse grillroom and
lounge, Big Bad Johns Hillbilly bar and Legends
Nightclub. Friendly service combine to make this a wise
choice for your stay while in Victoria. In the heart of
downtown Victoria, within walking distance to shops, the
convention center, attractions and all inner harbour
terminals.

It's a very central location in Victoria with easy
access to lots of attractions like the harbor, museums
and shopping. Rooms were clean, roomy, and comfortable.
The food in the restaurants attached to the hotel were
tasty. Once the car was parked, we were able to walk
everywhere.

We were very pleased with the service at the hotel, its
location and the continental breakfast. I did hear
comments from people with rooms at the front of the
hotel that there was too much noise at night from
surrounding clubs but rooms in the back are not affected
by the noise so I would request one if noise if a
problem for you.

We found staff to be polite and friendly. Internet
service was down the entire three days we were there so
they made one phone call for us to Imax so we could
check movie times.
If you want to sleep, do not, do not, do not stay here.
If you are looking for a very cheap place to shower and
change your clothes and don't plan on spending any time
in your room, this is a good choice. Location is
fabulous, we walked everywhere both days we were there.
