Hotel Review of the Laurel Point Inn Victoria

on its website, laurel point looks pretty stunning. even
i admit the japanese gardens and location are pretty
awesome. but other than that, i'm pretty disappointed
with the hotel. our room was not ready at check-in time
and the front desk agent (did not catch her name but red
head?) was completely unapologetic and told us to come
back in an hour. when we did, we ended up getting a
really second-rate room. parking is about 20 dollars per
night, and is not secure as advertised (gate to 'secure'
part was open when we walked through to retrieve our car
later on, allowing anyone to enter). although we booked
a harbor view, our view had a huge tree in the way that
blocked pretty much everything else. when we called down
to see if we could even pay more to get a better view,
we were firmly told that there was nothing else
available and the phone was neatly slammed down in my
ear. The room seemed clean, except for the extremely
shabby carpet that had suspicious stains still on
it...the next day room service took about an hour
getting to our room, no apology or anything for the cold
food! we checked out early, and checkout was done as
quickly as possible by the front desk staff who were
obviously eager to get us out of there as quickly as
possible. Overall extremely disappointed and will never
be coming back here.

Read all the reviews and at entertained the idea of the
Empress...SO happy we stuck with the Inn at Laurel
Point!! We took the Victoria Clipper from Seattle and
when they say the dock is within walking distance, they
mean it. A quick, easy 5 minute (if even ) walk brought
us to the front desk with smiling agents. We booked a
1bdrm terrace suite and the views and harbor sounds are
just what you see online. Breathtaking, we really did
not want to leave our room. Each morning (we were there
5 nights) we'd open our drapes to see what the day would
bring us...overcast, foggy, sunny, raining, no matter
what it was amazing! I had requested a high floor when
we booked and got room 562, end of the hall and only one
floor from the top...just added to our awesome views! We
loved Victoria, everything was in easy walking distance
and Amy at the Front Desk was great by printing bus
schedules when we wanted to venture further (Butchart
Gardens and the Craigdarroch (sp?) Castle). Our first
nite we were tired so decided on dinner at Aura, our
server Stepen was awesome and the food was
exquisite...best creme brulee I've ever had! All in all
we were thrilled with our pick and the extra $$ we spent
to get the terrace suite! The only downside was that we
scheduled a couples massage for our last night and
somehow the outside company double booked and we didnt
get our treatments. No fault to the Inn but I hope it
doesn't happen often, after our walk to Beacon Hill
Park, the Mile 0 Park and Ogden Point, we were looking
forward to the massages. We can't wait to return and
hope we can get the same room!!

Upon check in, I was a bit iffy. The couple next to us
had their reservation lost in the system and the guy
that checked us in didn't seem confident. We arrived to
our room to have a view of the rooftop (at $200 a night,
that's disgusting). The fan in our bathroom didn't work.
We could hear the maid's door opening every 5 minutes
onward from 7a.m. until we went out to explore. The
elevators are disgusting chipped wood, paint stains on
the buttons, etc. We also went out for a walk between
our first and second nights to find our key cards no
longer worked. I went to the front desk and they
replaced them quickly; however, they had left a voice
message that they needed replacing (If I can't get in
the room, what is the point?). They should have left a
message on the actual door. Worst value for my money.

I can't say enough about our weekend here, everything
from the customer service, to cleanliness of the hotel
was fabulous! We loved it so much that we have already
booked another stay here for this year. Being right on
the harbour is really nice too, couldn't have asked for
a better hotel to stay at! The rooms were top noch, had
a huge bathroom and a huge bed!!

On day of checkout decided to order room service for
breakfast. I was transferred to voicemail and left
order. No call back. 20 minutes later I called they
claim to not have heard the voicemail. I ordered again.
Breakfast arrived without any utensils, one item was
wrong and the other item was very different than
described. All we got was attitude and "I'll have to
check with the manager" when we asked for the utensils
and correction of the order. Person delivering food
rolled eyes back when we asked her to take away other
plates with wrong order. Never through the entire ordeal
did we receive an apology until we were checking out and
demanded that the service fee and gratuity be removed
from the room service charge. That was the least they
could do, and the least is just what they did. We will
not return, nor will we ever recommend this place to
anyone.

We checked in on Aug 22, 2010 and found Guest Services
reception to be marginally friendly and helpful. The did
not provide any information about the hotels amenities
not did hey tell us about the parking fee. We were not
able to check in before the 3pm check in time, do we
waited around. Our first night sleep was so terrible as
the mattress had the springs poking through. I went to
the front desk the next day and they were extremely
defensive and I was told that the rooms and beds had
recently been renovated and upgraded. I asked to switch
rooms. We came back in the afternoon and were told that
they had made mistake about the new bed, it was in fact
an old bed and gave us a new room. The bed was ok in
that room. Although the rooms were clean, the balcony
and the windows leading to the balcony were very dirty.
The view to the harbour is spectacular though. The next
day we had breakfast in the Aura hotel restaurant and we
took note that the hostess rolled her eyes and another
guest. When we checked out the next day, we were never
asked once how our stay was and the Guest Services clerk
appeared to be marginally interested in us. I would not
recommend this hotel nor will I ever go back.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Inn for 5 nights
in the Erickson Terrace Suite on the 5th Floor. The
experience was FIRST RATE -- the two room suite was
large, exceptionally clean (I'm a clean freak, so it
passed the test!), nicely appointed and quiet and
serene. The view was extraordinary -- step outside on
the large patio and you are bathed in sunlight, water
and beautiful breezes. The boats and sea planes are a
delight to watch and hear -- and the seagulls sing
merrily. The service staff were friendly, informative
and eager to please. All in all, we would highly
recommend the Inn at Laurel Point as a perfect location
to experience the joys of Victoria. |
