Paul’s Motor Inn is a decent place to stay. The decor is
somewhat dated, definitely could use an update.
Everything worked well, fridge, iron, coffee maker which
is always a pleasant surprise. The traffic noise was at
an acceptable level despite being on busy Douglas
Street.

Old motor inn that has tried to keep up. Stayed there in
the past at a reasonable rate, but too expensive for
what you get now. Within walking distance of downtown
and harbour area.

Room was neat, clean and quiet. Not a spectacular
setting, but very good value for the price. Mini
refrigerator was an asset. Within walking distance to
the harbour. Bus stop located right outside the Inn.
Front desk staff is usually very low key but
professional, more enthusiasm shown from housekeeping.

The whole place looks like it was frozen in the Sixties
-- retro styling and well-maintained. The staff was very
friendly and helpful.
We had an upstairs courtyard room that was secure and
quiet. One wall was covered in real wood paneling and
the furniture was comfortable. We slept very well.
The location was excellent -- just blocks from downtown
shops, clubs and restaurants.
The bar was a fun place to watch a hockey game, and we
had a good breakfast at the on-site restaurant one
morning.
This is NOT the Ritz. But the Ritz wouldn't charge $74
Canadian a night for two people. In all, we loved it!

The rooms were very clean. We booked a courtyard room
for the claim they made of quiet. The one of the two
nights we were there a group held a wake in the
courtyard. A large group of families gathered with food
platters, wine, beer and guitars.
Not to mention they sang really badly.
There is no air conditioning - we had to keep our
windows closed due to the noise.
We are not unreasonable. If people want to chat and have
a smoke in the courtyard. This would have been fine.
Numerous calls to the front desk did not help. No
manager was on site.
As we were not dealt with fairly...will will never
return to this motel.

This was an average motel for the money.
No air con - only a ceiling fan so the room did get hot
as we couldn't sleep with the fan whirring.
Quiet considering it's on a main road.
A bit far from downtown, but we found a fab pub /
restaurant a few minutes walk from the motel

We booked for four nights in Victoria with Paul's Motor
Inn over the internet. We were sceptical at first as
Paul's was so much cheaper than the other places we were
looking at. We were surprised and happy when we arrived
to find such a nice room, and it was located within
walking distance to just about everything. We walked
everywhere. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and
we had absolutely no problems. We would definitely stay
again if we ever make it back up to Victoria. Great
little surprise in an expensive tourist town.

By far the least expensive accommodation in an expensive
city - we really enjoyed our stay at Paul's. We did
upgrade to the courtyard rooms. If you have the extra
$$, I think this is worth it in that it's a pretty area
and also a lot more private--and still the least
expensive accommodation in the city. I also noticed,
sneaking a peak as I walked by the regular rooms, that
the duvet is much nicer in the courtyard rooms. However,
the area is so safe and the decor is still cozy in the
regular rooms, so no worries if you don't upgrade - I'm
just saying it is a nice little extra to stay in the
courtyard.
I liked the wood panelling and fully loaded bench action
- you will have a place to put everything. The only
complaint I would have is that it was HOT - and I
specifically asked the reservationist when I booked the
room if it would be uncomfortable without air
conditioning. The air outside would be 55 degrees and in
the room it was almost 80. Opening the window helped,
but severely reduced the privacy. But again, for the
price...we made it work.
Overall, though, we really enjoyed it. The wood paneling
is real, not cheap stuff, so it lends a warmth to the
room. The staff are genial (but so was everyone in
Victoria, it seemed) and the price, as I may have
mentioned a few dozen times, can't be beat! |
