Review of the Queen Victoria Hotel

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. I've travelled around the world and stayed
at various hotels, from budget conscious to 4 star. I also travel to Victoria
for business at least once a year. This was the first time that a hotel did not
clean up our room. When I came back (around 4pm) from business meetings all day,
I saw that the maids were cleaning the rooms down the hall from us. I checked
our suite and it wasn't clean yet, so I left, assuming they were going to clean
it. Now 4pm is pretty late to be cleaning any suite but if the job is done,
that's what's important. Anyway, I left for a walk and came back at 5pm. The
suite wasn't cleaned. I called downstairs and the desk said that the cleaning
crew was gone for the day and maybe we had the sign up on our door asking for
privacy? I said no we didn't leave the sign on our door but it looked like they
forgot to clean our suite. Anyway, they said all they could do for us was send
up some towels but our sheets were still dirty. On another note, the next
morning, when I paid for my parking fee, I was given a MC receipt and another
hotel receipt that didn't make any sense. I asked the desk if they could give me
an itemized receipt showing that I was charged for parking as I needed to
provide this for reimbursement at my company. They checked the hotel receipt and
realized they had given me another customer's itemized hotel bill. Easily the
worst service I've encountered.

Spent 2 nights would have spent 3 but they were full the third night. Room size
very good. Plenty of space. 2 queen beds that were ok on the softer side.
Cleanliness very good. Ran into housekeeping very helpful and nice. Bathroom on
the smaller side but very doable. There were 2 of us and only 2 towels. I
preferred more but that is because of my American excess way of thinking. We
were very close to the small elevator but never heard it. (people who complain
about elevator size should stay home) The second night there was a complaint
against us because of noise. We we were only talking. No music or TV. Sorry.
Guess the walls are thin. If your a light sleeper then you might want to bring
ear plugs. We never heard anybody and my friend is a very light sleeper.
Kitchenette is behind locked closet doors.
Front desk very friendly. When checking in asked to be on side to see the back
of Fairmont Empress. They honored request. I left my contact lens in hotel room.
They mailed them back to me. Thank you thank you. I observed night front desk go
above and beyond helping someone use printer for a fishing license. They offer 2
computers for internet so you don't have to drag laptop around. But it is in a
closet tighter than tight.

Stayed 2nd week in Aug. So on the warmer side. I get hot easily. This is an old
hotel no A/C. Concerned about that. (Fairmont Empress across the street doesn't
have it either.) They did have a oscillating table fan which we used. We were on
the 4th floor. No windows to open. Just a large sliding glass door with no
screen. It worked just fine. Just kept the curtain sheer closed. Felt very safe.
And was cool enough to sleep.
Parking is 4 dollars a day. CHEAP. But very limited. Lot under hotel is owned by
someone else. We came in late both nights. And got the last parking space.

Samuel's Restaurant was expensive. Not owned by hotel. We ate there for
breakfast twice. Very good. Hope so for the prices. I got the special so it
wasn't so bad. For $9.99 got toast 2 scrambled eggs (came with mushroom and
bacon) potatoes and orange juice. But order it ala carte it would have been
about $25.00 Wait staff very pleasant I think I recall looking at dinner entrees
were 25 plus. Old Spaghetti Factory is next door.
You are in the main part a quite a large town. So yes you are going to hear
noises. None of them disturbed me. As the other reviews have said you are close
to Inner Harbour next door to British Museum. If you have been walking all day
coming back to the hotel is on an incline. Would I have liked to paid less sure.
But you are in a very popular destination in North America. So deal with it. You
pay for Location beauty weather and FLOWERS. A good value.

A short 5-minute walk to the waterfront area, right across the street from the
Spaghetti Factory. We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite since we have kids, and it had
a spacious living area with a fold out couch. It was surprisingly quiet even
though our first floor window was right next to a semi-busy street with buses
going by, we didn't hear any traffic at all. I would stay here again
because of the location and the fact that they have big suites with bedrooms,
which is a must with children......

Absolutely wonderful, accommodating staff around the clock. Good location (not
if you are on crutches with a fractured leg)...but the front desk staff was
willing to provide complimentary taxis/shuttles at times. They also made
excellent dining suggestions. The concierge gentleman actually offered to (and
did) pick up a bottle of wine and have it chilling in our room for when we
returned from dinner. Personable people with a good attitude and sense of humor.
Great choice!

We arrived in Victoria after a very, very long day of travel and checked in to
the Queen Victoria. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood but within easy
walking distance of the harbor, the Museum, and the shopping district. We
reserved on priceline but, due to room availability, they upgraded us to a
2-room suite with a nice balcony that you could step out onto and catch the
evening breezes. On-site self-parking was convenient and inexpensive ($4!). The
bed and pillows were very comfortable and the room quiet. We needed to find a
drugstore and a currency exchange and the front desk staff was helpful in
providing a map marked with suggestions. We chose to eat in the hotel restaurant
for breakfast. The host and server in the restaurant were very friendly,
sincere, and personable and our breakfast, although simple, was delicious. The
restaurant has a "strawberry" customer service program and guests are encouraged
to complete a form to award, or take away, a strawberry from the staff.

Hotel was nice and convenient for walking downtown. Rooms were nice and clean.
There were fans in the 2 bedrooms and sitting room but would have preferred to
have the windows open. We were on the 4th floor and was uncomfortable with
leaving the windows open as there were no screens on windows or patio door and
travelling with three children. Front desk staff was very helpful with
restaurant suggestions in the area. we didn't eat at the hotel restaurant. |
