Overall, hotel was good. Pub located off the downstairs lobby was very loud at night. Also right on a main road, so traffic noise was loud. We didn't get the double queen beds we booked, we got a full and a twin sofa couch, so we weren't as comfortable as we wanted to be. Older hotel, not a chain, so had some flavor.

A very plain room with no amenities to speak of but very cleanly and centrally located, good restaurant facilities. It was a reasonable priced but plain place to sleep. Very convenient to Downtown Victoria

I should preface this by saying that I did not actually stay at this hotel. A group of us went to Victoria for the weekend. My sister is 8 months pregnant and after going for a walk around the city she started to not feel well. We went inside this hotel to ask to borrow a phone to call our own hotel's courtesy van. The concierge was rude to us and ended up saying that he didnt have a land line that called outside numbers. Seriously...my sister is 8 months pregnant! Disgusting how poor their customer service was and I can't imagine what they provide their guests

This is standard chain hotel fare by and large. Not charming as is my preference but the room/bed was comfortable (although I'm sure some might have found it small), the bathroom fine and I observed people having fun out my window playing beach volleyball on the roof of a lower adjacent building. Continental breakfast is included; bagels, juice, coffee, fruit, that kind of thing.
Noise seemed the main contentious point for guests on this site. Yes, I could hear noise from the neighboring Sticky Wicket . Some guests I think might (and apparently do) actually enjoy the ambience. Saturday night was the only time noise was really an issue. So, I grabbed a drink somewhere myself and the noise had largely subsided by 1am and I slept just fine.

For $79/night to be so centrally-located within 5 minutes walk to the Inner Harbour and lots of (good) eating places nearby, I was quite tolerant of the hotel's shortcomings I suppose. I would stay there again, although I must admit I tend to prefer inns or B&Bs, as they're less impersonal.

The location was excellent and the restaurants in the hotel were great! No fan/air conditioning, small spaces, no WiFi. The location was perfect- right in downtown Victoria - you can easily walk to all of the main downtown attractions. The hotel staff was on top of everything and the hotel restaurants - namely the Sticky Wicket Pub - still has the best fish and chips we've ever had. The hotel is a little out of date- there is no air conditioning and there is no WiFi for the business travelers. The rooms are a little small, but quite do able with just 2 people.

We could not have had a nicer stay or a nicer room for the very reasonable price of 129.00 (plus taxes) per night (AAA membership special, with 2 queen beds). Although the room size was cozy, it was not cramped and we loved the new, firm beds, warm stylish decor, and beautiful updated bathroom. The only thing better than the price at this hotel, is the location, which is just a 10 minute walk from the ferry landing (we took the Coho from Port Angeles). We did not need to bring our car over, because everything we wanted to do was a short walk from our hotel. Royal London Wax Museum was our favorite (kind of campy, kitschy entertainment - you're not going to learn anything about the string theory of the universe). There is also a very nice gallery style mall 2 blocks from the hotel, which kept my teenager happy bargain hunting for a couple of hours. For a really delicious Italian lunch or dinner (or brunch on Sundays), walk 2 blocks to Pagliacci's. They don't take reservations (unless your party is 6 or more), so arrive early ahead of the crowd. It's worth it. The Strathcona is a great value in a great location -- it's definitely where we will stay next time we go to Victoria.

My boyfriend and I went back for a second trip to Victoria. We wanted a hotel close to everything and this fit the bill. However, even though the location was great, nothing else was. We asked one of the female desk clerks where we could exchange our money for Canadian and she had no idea. We asked her the next day how to get to Hatley Park and she had never heard of it. Didn't have a clue. Hatley Park is a castle and tourist place. I have to say it was one of the smallest rooms we had ever stayed in. There are no amenities in the room whatsoever. You need an amplifier to even hear the tv. Parking for the hotel is an outdoor lot 2 blocks away with $10 charge.

Hotel was clean and inexpensive, and right in the middle of everything. We walked everywhere. Perhaps not so much for the family or those troubled by noise.

We booked the two night package on line for $99 a nite plus tax which included continental breakfast. We found the room to be clean, the bed a bit less than comfortable but then you get what you pay for! The amazing cluster of bars and restaurants at street level are obviously the income generator for the hotel. We had dinner at the bars both nights and watched the bar people at work. I think more liquor splashed off the ice than went into the glasses. The 'pint' of beer was 1 or 2 fingers from the top of the glass (widest part, of course). The bar staff was rude. Just before we were leaving, I turned around and a signs had been placed around the bar stating "Cash only". Our bill was almost $100 with tip (because of the new sign, I didn't tip). Food was ok and not a bargain. Would I go there again? Only if it will save me $75 a night or more! But I would not eat or drink there again because there are many nice pubs and restaurants within blocks. On the upside, it looked like there was a dazzling late night program for the under 30's.
